Is Shipp Returning?

John_Wesley_Shipp(2).jpg

ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Evil Eddie may be dead, but as Llanview's latest Whodunit picks up speed, don't be surprised to see portrayer John Wesley Shipp bring the Ford brothers' pop back to the screen. The actor revealed the news of his return in a Facebook posting on February 25, writing, "Thrill rides, today. Highlight: murder scenes under the -- I feel like saying "baton" -- of director Jill Mitwell. I know of no one who is willing to discuss scenes so thoroughly beforehand... other than this indefatigable, organic director. And within the constraints of the medium in which we were working! It was exciting, in that up to the 10th hour, I thought we might NOT pull it out this time. And -- relieving myself of responsibility for the end result or how it's received (for the moment lol) -- I am steeping in the afterglow of a successful, collaborative experience. When it all comes together, there is nothing like it. I've experienced this at peak moments working on Broadway, in primetime, on film, and today with the terrific cast and crew of One Life To Live."

Anderson Is Going To Be A Dad!

AndersonWife.jpg

Many congratulations to GENERAL HOSPITAL's Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and his wife of ten months, Kiera, who are expecting their first child -- a girl -- in mid-July. "I'm ready to be completely overwhelmed," the father-to-be tells Soaps In Depth with a smile. "We both knew we wanted kids. For us, the longer we were to wait, the harder it was going to be, so we thought we should get going when it's the easiest and the healthiest. There's never going to be a better time. It seemed right and we got lucky that it happened right away. When we used to talk about it, I'd get anxious. I'd become a master planner. I was already figuring out a way to pay for college. Now that it's happening, it's become so much simpler in my mind and I know it's going to be wonderful. As it's getting closer, I'm seeing the change in Kiera and seeing the change in me, as well. I'm not as caught up in the details as I'm starting to feel the reality of it. We're both so excited."

Christopher's Primetime Show A Go!

Tyler2.jpg

It's official: GENERAL HOSPITAL's Tyler Christopher (Nikolas) has a role on a new primetime series! ABC Family announced today that it has picked up THE LYING GAME, based on the recently-released novel by Pretty Little Liars author Sara Shepard. (That series, of course, was the basis for the network's wildly popular teen drama of the same name.) Former GH headwriter Charles Pratt, Jr., is the writer/executive producer of the series, which taped its pilot back in December in New Mexico.

Christopher will play the recurring role of Detective Matthews in THE LYING GAME, which will star Alexandra Chando (Maddie, AS THE WORLD TURNS) as twin sisters separated at birth. Sutton was raised by a rich family while Emma was bounced around the foster system. After their initial meeting, Sutton talks Emma into switching places for a few days while she pursues a lead on their birth mother. But when Sutton fails to return to their meeting place, Emma must decide whether to come clean about her true identity, or risk her own safety while trying to find her missing sister and uncover the truth about why they were split apart in the first place.

Will Christopher leave behind GH to take on the new role? "I have to see how involved I'm going to be on both [shows]," he tells Soaps In Depth. "Maybe there's an opportunity, since they're both on ABC networks, to do both."

GH's Carter Is A Viral Star!

Wingate.jpg

On February 7, former GENERAL HOSPITAL baddie Josh Wingate (ex-Carter) guest-starred as rapping ex-con Greg Page on the "Lucky Stiff" episode of ABC's smash hit CASTLE. In the show, Wingate and actor Brian Jones (who played Greg's brother, Titus) rapped their alibi in the catchy tune "Get On The Floor." Thanks to tweets by CASTLE cast and crew the next day -- including stars Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey, ONE LIFE TO LIVE) and Seamus Dever (ex-Ian, GENERAL HOSPITAL) -- a full-length video for "Get On The Floor" became an instant viral sensation. Soaps In Depth tracked down Wingate to get his take on the YouTube sensation!

"I had a blast shooting CASTLE," Wingate says. "The entire experience was amazing, not unlike my time on GH. Brian and I got to go into the studio and record our track for the show. We were like kids in a candy store, having the times of our life. I grew up listening to hip hop and rap, making mix tapes. Even though I took a lot of crap for it from my peers, I didn't care. And now it has come full circle."

Wingate was pleasantly surprised to find out the next day that his CASTLE rap had gone viral. "I was so pumped and excited! It's fun and catchy. It's been getting a lot of great feedback from fans and friends and family."

Following their CASTLE appearance, Wingate and Jones are collaborating on some songs. "We're planning on recording some more. We're just having fun, but who knows -- the Page brothers could make a return!" In the meantime, Wingate is recovering from knee surgery ("I tore my meniscus in my right knee teaching martial arts," he reports) and busy planning his upcoming wedding with fiancée Amy Shea. "We are looking at venues in New England. The planning right now is fun and exciting."

Lucci Heads To CLEVELAND This Week!

LucciCleveland.jpg

Be sure to tune in to HOT IN CLEVELAND this Wednesday, February 16, for the start of an unprecedented multi-network crossover event when ALL MY CHILDREN's Susan Lucci (Erica) returns to TV LAND's hit comedy! On the show, the daytime icon will appear once again as a parody of herself, rival to washed-up former soap goddess Victoria Chase (played by Wendie Malick). "My character has always loathed Susan because she has won the Emmy and I never did," says Malick. "In the show, I thought I was being offered this wonderful star tun in this death scene, where she then sabotaged it to the degree where she took away my fabulous dying speech. My monologue. My soliloquy. And not only did she do that, but then she had my head wrapped in bandages. Eventually, even my mouth so that I couldn't even make a noise."

In the two-part HOT IN CLEVELAND episode titled "I Love Lucci" -- which continues on Wednesday, February 23 -- Lucci's AMC co-stars Michael E. Knight (Tad) and Darnell Williams (Jesse) also guest star. "It was very funny for me to walk onto the set of HOT IN CLEVELAND and see what they re-created," reveals Lucci. "It was a very recognizable AMC hospital set. Working with these talented, really warm and gracious actresses was so much fun. Working in front of a live audience reminded me of the theater. It was so much fun."

Then, on Thursday, February 24, the ABC soap returns the favor and plays host to Malick when she -- as Victoria -- plays a character named Gertie Stein. "I'm looking for a job, and get a call that I've been offered something... a housekeeper job," previews Malick. "I show up at [Erica's] house and then recognize her. I have a real sassy little mouth on me, so I end up getting fired. And then later on, I reappear as a bartender."

For a preview of Lucci, Knight and Williams on HOT IN CLEVELAND, check out the two videos below! And then tune in on Wednesday night at 10 p.m. EST!

AMC Stars Cast On CASTLE!

RyanGreens.jpg

When ABC's CASTLE airs its soap-themed episode next month, look for ALL MY CHILDREN stars Rebecca Budig (Greenlee) and Cameron Mathison (Ryan) to be joined by soap vet Corbin Bernsen (ex-Durant, GENERAL HOSPITAL) as stars of the fictional daytime drama TEMPTATION LANE.

In the episode titled "One Life To Lose," Castle -- played, of course, by ONE LIFE TO LIVE alum Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey) -- and Beckett are called in to investigate the murder of a soap opera headwriter via fire axe after a TEMPTATION LANE fan blogs about her dissatisfaction with the sudser's storylines. Naturally, Beckett and CAstle will quickly discover that the behind-the-scenes drama is just as scandalous! Bernsen will play Lance Buchanan, the soap's main star, who happens to have quite the reputation as a ladies' man -- and a romantic history with Castle's own mother! (The character's name is a nod to Fillion's run as Joey Buchanan.) Budig appears as TEMPTATION LANE diva Mandy Bronson, and Mathison is Vince Bowers, one of the soap's directors and the devastated husband of the victim. Jane Seymour also guest-stars as Gloria, the grieving mother of the murdered soap scribe with a deep, dark secret she is desperate to keep.

Seamus Deaver (ex-Ian, GH) also stars alongside Fillion on CASTLE as Det. Kevin Ryan -- and the crime drama's creator/executive producer Andrew W. Marlowe tells Soaps In Depth that the two hunks gave him inspiration for the episode. "We were looking for way to honor of their background and have a little bit of fun," he reveals.

The CASTLE episode "One Life To Lose" is tentatively scheduled to air on Monday, March 21, at 10:01 p.m. EST.

A Man For All Seasons

Ashford.jpg

Matthew Ashford might be best known as DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Jack Devereaux, but ABC fans still remember him for his turns as ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Dr. Stephen Haver (Jessica's nutty professor who turned out to be the Music Box Killer) and Buchanan cousin Drew Ralston. He was also the actor who brought GENERAL HOSPITAL's Dr. Tom Hardy back from Africa. What all of those characters had in common with their portrayer is that they were driven men. In fact, not even a severe case of laryngitis was going to keep him from telling Soaps In Depth about "Matt's Musings Month By Month," the wall calendar of pen and ink cartoons that he's produced to raise funds for Retinoblastoma International (the charity that he founded following his youngest daughter Emma's diagnosis).

"The girls always asked, 'What were you like when you were our age?'" Ashford says of his daughters. "We were at the beach, and I started drawing pictures of funny things that happened to me growing up.

"The calendar was an idea I've been kicking around for a few years," he continues. "I enjoy drawing cartoons... [and] I've been trying to think of a way I can raise some much needed funds for RBI," Ashford says. The dedicated advocate of curing the rare infant eye cancer is determined to carry on. "We have seen the time of diagnosis almost cut in half because of heightened awareness -- what will be next?" he wonders.

Fumero Heats Up MIAMI!

ONE LIFE TO LIVE hunk David Fumero (Cristian) has landed a plum role on the CBS primetime drama CSI: MIAMI! He'll appear on Sunday, February 20, in "Last Stand," where Miami becomes overrun by crime and chaos when the man who killed Horatio's wife, Memmo Fiero -- played by GENERAL HOSPITAL's Robert LaSardo (ex-Manny/Mateo) -- returns to take control of the city. "I play a used-to-be bad guy who's retired from the gang thing," the actor tells Soaps In Depth of his character, Armando Salazar. "He's become a bit of a millionaire, but his ego makes him fall right back into it. I read for the casting director in L.A. This role came up, and they called me for it."

Fumero was very excited about having the opportunity to appear in scenes opposite the show's stars, David Caruso, who plays Det. Horatio Caine and Adam Rodriguez, who plays Det. Eric Delko. "David was really cool, and Adam is a really stand-up dude. I had a great time," says the Miami native. "They shoot it in Long Beach, CA. The first scene I had was in a building, and I was looking at the set out of the window, and it was so like Miami. It's amazing what [set designers] do."

Tune in to see Fumero on CSI: MIAMI at 10 p.m. EST on Sunday, February 20.

Ward Has A New Primetime Role!

From fashion magazine diva to attorney! GENERAL HOSPITAL's Megan Ward (Kate) will guest-star on the upcoming episode of the CBS hit series CSI: NY titled "Vigilante." When a serial rapist is found murdered in the same manner as his victims, Ward appears as Annie Cartland, a former public defender-turned-leader of a victim's support group, whose client, Kate -- played by Lindsay Price (ex-An Li, ALL MY CHILDREN) -- may be facing a murder charge.

"I've done the [main] CSI set in Vegas twice now, then I did CSI: MIAMI and now I've done CSI: NY," Ward tells Soaps In Depth. Although the actress won't spoil the big plot twist -- "I can't give away the big reveal!" -- she will share a thing or two about her character. "She's a no-nonsense lawyer and not a grieving widow. She's somebody who is in control of the situation and is reacting to it. That, as a character, interested me."

As her character evolves through the course of the show, Ward was able to share some screen time with an actor she really respects. "I got to work with Gary Sinise, which was a really big thing for me in my career. To be able to work with someone like that -- he's lovely. As an actor, he's very creative and it was very rewarding."

Catch Ward and Price in the episode of CSI: NY airing on Friday, February 18, at 9 p.m. EST.
