This summer, Web soap opera THE BAY continues to break new ground by taking their show on the road. "I like to describe it as THE BAY meets The Wizard of Oz," explains the series' creator/writer/director, Gregori J. Martin. "It's kind of a prequel to season two, which will begin in late September."

Titled FAR FROM THE BAY, the 8-episode prequel will debut in June and follows amnesiac Peter Garrett (played by Kristos Andrews) on his journey to The Big Apple to find Claire -- played by AS THE WORLD TURNS' Marie Wilson (Meg) -- the woman whom he mistakenly believes is his mother. "He runs into all these characters that help him get one step closer to finding her -- I cast a slew of veteran actors from daytime," Martin previews. "And then we did the first ever Web soap crossovers with EMPIRE and STEAMBOAT."

Look for familiar faces like ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Ilene Kristen (Roxy) and Tonja Walker (Olivia), ANOTHER WORLD's Anna Holbrook (Sharlene), GUIDING LIGHT's Michael O'Leary (Rick) and Miriam Colon (Maria), and ATWT's Agim Kaba (Aaron) to appear. Find the show at

But the news that's got everyone chattering lately is that the former KNIGHT RIDER star has landed the coveted role of Army vet-turned-Justice Department staffer Steve Trevor in NBC's reboot of WONDER WOMAN. Lucci Does It Write!

It seems every detail of Erica's life has hit the presses on ALL MY CHILDREN, but the same can't be said for her very private portrayer, Susan Lucci, who is just now, for first time in her 41 years in daytime, opening up about her personal life in a revealing new memoir! The actress had received various offers from publishing companies and literary agents over the years, but decided to write All My Life -- which hits shelves today, Tuesday, March 29 -- after a conversation with her son. "Each of those letters laid out reasons why I should do it, and I was very flattered, but I frankly never thought I was going to be one to write a book," she recalls. "And then about a year ago, my son, Andres, who had no idea I'd received all these letters, said to me, 'You know mom, I think you should write a book... because the people my age, especially the girls I date, really want to know about you: How you did it, how you do it and what your story is.'"

Surprised by her son's words, and also realizing that his reasons were very similar to the reasons the literary world had given her, Lucci set out on her writing journey. Pairing up with professional author Laura Morton, the actress found her voice and set out to detail all the moments of her life, from joyous occasions like her time on Broadway, to personal tragedies, including a devastating car accident and a miscarriage. But despite including some darker anecdotes, the actress says the book isn't like a lot of other celebrity memoirs that have hit the shelves in recent years. "My memories are that I have met and done a lot of interesting things, I've been to a lot of interesting places, but it's not the sensational kind of thing that I see so much of now; it's not in your face and about drug rehab or abuse," she says, adding that her life has consisted mostly of positive things. "I was aware as I was going along that there were some wonderful things in my life, Cinderella moments as I would call them, where I would think to myself for a split moment, 'Oh my goodness, this is really happening! This is incredible!' But I didn't have time to really savor the moment, and writing this book has really given me an opportunity to think about those things."

Holy Shocker! Luke Killed Jake!

There are some dark days ahead for GENERAL HOSPITAL's Luke as he deals with the fallout from the stunning revelation that he was the driver responsible for Jake's death. And while Luke's portrayer, Anthony Geary, doesn't want to sound morbid, finding out that his alter ego was behind the wheel put a smile on his face. "I was thrilled, because it was an opportunity for drama, and that's what I'm all about," he admits. "This is what I live for!"

For those of us who revel in watching Geary do what he does best, there are some fantastic episodes ahead as the truth about Jake's accident spreads across the canvas. "The fact that it was such a Greek tragedy -- with Luke running down a child whom his own son had raised -- that's great stuff." Keep your eyes open for a scene between Luke and Ethan that the actor was particularly pleased with. "It was brilliant stuff," he previews of the talk, which begins with Luke explaining where Lucky got his name. Another aspect to the story he's enjoying is the opportunity to dive deeper into Luke's marriage with Tracy. "We're taking it to a darker side than it's been in, and I think that's making it all the richer."

Geary Pays Tribute To Taylor

They started out as GENERAL HOSPITAL co-stars, but long after the soap's cameras stopped rolling, Anthony Geary (Luke) and Elizabeth Taylor (ex-Helena) remained close. And today, along with the rest of the world, the Daytime Emmy winner is mourning the loss of a true Hollywood icon, a screen legend whom he considered a friend.

"Elizabeth was more than a great star, she was an amazing human being," says Geary in a statement. "Her world-famous physical beauty paled in comparison to the beauty that radiated from her heart and soul. She had great humor, didn't take herself too seriously, and had the most wonderful bawdy laugh. She was a fierce and loyal friend and tireless advocate. She dedicated herself to education, treatment and the search for a cure for HIV/AIDS long before it was fashionable to do so. Back in the dark days of ignorance and prejudice against people stricken with the disease, Elizabeth was at the forefront of the battle. Ever ready to give love, comfort, and dignity to those whose lives had been devastated and cut short, her generosity was nothing short of spectacular. It made her furious to hear anyone claim that people who had HIV/AIDS were somehow morally inferior or that the disease was some kind of punishment.

"I was fortunate enough to call her my friend and every moment I spent in her company was unforgettable," he concludes. "I loved her very much. The world is a little darker, a little colder, a little less beautiful without her."

GH: Taylor's Helena Was "A Defining Moment"

Long before James Franco (Franco) was GENERAL HOSPITAL's "Special Guest Star," Elizabeth Taylor was the movie icon who wanted to add a daytime role to her resumé. "We were honored to work with Elizabeth Taylor on General Hospital," says the show in a statement. "Her portrayal of Helena was a defining moment for the show and an extraordinary experience for everyone involved. She was a great talent, a gracious lady, and a rare presence. We are deeply saddened by her passing and send our deepest condolences to her family and friends."

GH's Rogers Remembers Taylor

Back in the early 1980s, Tristan Rogers (ex-Robert) had the great pleasure of working with GENERAL HOSPITAL guest star Elizabeth Taylor when she appeared as Helena Cassadine. And today, Port Charles' favorite spy remembers the screen legend. "She was the last star of her era," Rogers tells Soaps In Depth. "She was unique and we shall never see the like of her again."

"To this day, I still remember her working on the show very clearly," he recalls. "But it was the way she simply walked up to me in the make-up department and said, 'Hi, I'm Elizabeth.' This really was a star."

Elizabeth Taylor Has Died

Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor -- known to daytime fans as GENERAL HOSPITAL's original Helena Cassadine -- passed away early this morning at the age of 79. She had been hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles since February 11 with symptoms caused by congestive heart failure, and died peacefully while surrounded by her four children. "Though she had recently suffered a number of complications, her condition had stabilized and it was hoped that she would be able to return home. Sadly, this was not to be," says her publicist in a statement.

Taylor made her film debut as a child actress in 1942's There's One Born Every Minute, and shot to stardom as a 12-year-old in National Velvet. She is a two-time Oscar winner, and was famously married eight times to seven different men, but the soap world will forever remember the Hollywood legend for her portrayal of GH's Helena in 1981, who vowed revenge on Luke and Laura for the death of her husband, Mikkos, and placed a curse on the Spencers the day of their wedding. Taylor later made a cameo on ALL MY CHILDREN in 1984, as a cleaning lady in scenes with Carol Burnett's Verla Grubs and Eileen Herlie's Myrtle.

In addition to her children, Taylor is survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Another GH Exit?

Hot on the heels of the news that Tyler Christopher (Nikolas) will be leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL in the coming weeks, Soaps In Depth has learned that Adrianna Leon (Brook Lynn) will also be leaving the soap in early April, when her songbird alter ego heads out of Port Charles on a music tour. But since Brook's exit was written before Christopher was told by GH execs that the soap would not be offering him another contract, does that actually mean that Leon is off of GH for good? Not necessarily.

A GH spokesperson says that the character of Brook has always been recurring, and will continue to be so. And Leon herself hasn't yet said a final farewell to the soap. "All storylines were left open, all explanations were left undefined," she tells In Depth. "When I returned to GH, I knew that they had plans to alter my character and I was all for it. Looking back over this last year, I realize that it was a whole mastermind plan of genius! What we have now is a woman who I don't know... and neither do you. So, what is the real story? Who is Brook Lynn? Even though we thought we had it figured out, Brook Lynn is a complex character and we really have no idea."

Leon adds that she's ready to return to the set whenever GH wants the character back on the canvas. "GH and I have a really nice working agreement and my status as recurring is mutually supported and beneficial," she says. "When they need me, I do my best to manage schedules effectively and efficiently and I will always make it happen for them."

Exclusive: Axed GH Star Sets The Record Straight!

Last night, Soaps In Depth's Twitter page released Tyler Christopher's official statement on his exit as GENERAL HOSPITAL's Nikolas: "Commitment, professionalism and performance doesn't get you anything." And now, In Depth shares more of our exclusive interview with the Emmy-nominated actor about the circumstances surrounding his being let go from the soap.

"I was told that I would not be signing another contract," Christopher frankly declares. "I didn't see it coming." In fact, it was the actor's plan to remain with GH even while working on the upcoming new ABC Family series THE LYING GAME, where he's been cast as Detective Matthews. "A lot of people think that the reason I'm leaving is because I'm going on this other show. That's not the case," he explains. "I have zero idea of what my involvement with THE LYING GAME is going to be. I'm a character that may or may not be permanently involved. Leaving GH was not my choice. I wanted to stay and work out a deal, and that was not an option to me."

As of press time, Christopher had not been told how much longer Nikolas would remain a part of the Port Charles canvas. "No one has told me," he shrugs. "I don't know if I'm going to be gone at the end of the contract [in June] or next week. I have no idea."

We'll have more of Christopher's first exit interview in an upcoming ABC issue of Soaps In Depth, so check it out!

GH's Christopher: "It's True"

As confirmed by Soaps In Depth's Twitter page yesterday, Tyler Christopher (Nikolas) has been let go by GENERAL HOSPITAL. The actor himself tells In Depth exclusively that he was notified on Friday, March 18, that he would be written out of the soap. "Yes, it's true," he shares.

The actor's contract is up in June, and Friday would have marked the beginning of the last 13-week cycle period in his current deal -- and the time at which ABC would have had to notify him if they would be offering a new contract or not. Even though Christopher has a recurring role as a police detective on the upcoming ABC Family drama THE LYING GAME (set to debut August 15), the actor told In Depth just last month that he was on the fence about renewing his GH contract, but was even open to doing both series. "I have to see how involved I'm going to be, either on GH or on THE LYING GAME, or on both," Christopher shared at the time. "Maybe there's an opportunity, since they're on the same [parent] network, to do both. That would mutually benefit myself and them."

Christopher, a three-time Daytime Emmy nominee, joined the cast of GH in 1996 when he originated the role of Laura Spencer's son with Stavros Cassadine. He left in 1998, at which time Stephen Martinez was cast in the role, and returned to Port Charles in 2003.

We'll have more from our interview with Christopher in the next few days, so check back with us!

AMC Star Returning To Primetime Hit!

ALL MY CHILDREN's Denise Vasi (Randi) will not be participating in the Free To Breathe yogathon this weekend, organized by best pal Stephanie Gatschet (Madison). "Due to unanticipated scheduling conflicts, I will not be able to participate," she tweeted last night. "I was so excitedly looking forward to it. [Please] know that all monies raised will continue to go to the National Lung Cancer Partnership. Not only was I able to reach my fundraising 'goal' but thanks to each of you... I succeeded it!"

The actress has a good reason for not being able to make the charity event, however. The primetime procedural drama WHITE COLLAR -- the USA Network drama stars soap alum Matthew Bomer (Ben, GUIDING LIGHT) as a con man-turned-FBI consultant -- has asked her to make a return appearance! "White Collar (USA network) has brought 'Cindy' the character I portrayed 2 seasons ago (in the pilot) BACK!!" Vasi announced. "So I'm in NY filming that. I will return to LA and resume my schedule with AMC next week."

Herbst Shares Her Story!

In an exclusive interview in the new issue of ABC Soaps In Depth, GENERAL HOSPITAL's Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth) shares the emotional tale of her firing -- and rehiring! "It was surreal," she recalls of that fateful Friday meeting with the show's executives in which she was told the news. "I didn't see it coming."

ABC's statement that Herbst's exit was "storyline-dictated" not only shocked the actress, but her legions of fans as well. A character with familial ties to a legendary GH family, Elizabeth was the odd woman out in three romantic triangles, and is in the middle of a paternity issue between two brothers! "That's why it did take me by surprise," she says with a sigh.

Yet, four weeks later, amid outrage from Herbst's fans, the actress was asked to continue on in the role. To find out how the fan favorite reacted to that news, be sure to read her exclusive interview in the new issue, on sale now!

Casaubon Goes Primetime!

Switching coasts recently turned out to be fortuitous for ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Josh Casaubon (ex-Hugh), who landed a guest role on CBS' CSI: MIAMI just one week after moving to Los Angeles. "I play Doug Govoli, the delivery driver. It was a fantastic experience and a great West Coast welcome!" the actor reveals. "It's a nice-sized role -- more screen time than I think I've had in any other guest spot."

Alas, it turns out that poor Doug gets delivered himself... to the grim reaper! "I can't believe how well that part played out," Casaubon grins. "Hopefully it looks as amazingly gruesome as was intended." According to a show rep, the body count increases when a recipient along the route is killed, prompting the crime scene investigators to look into the connection -- and perhaps Doug's questionable relationship with some of his clients. The episode, titled "Special Delivery," airs Sunday, March 20, at 10 p.m. EST.

AMC's Barr Judges Fashion Competition!

"It's such a cool thing: It's fashion that is fur-free," Barr says of the competition that encourages current and up-and-coming designers to come up with eco-friendly and animal-friendly clothing. "It gives new and existing designers in the business a chance to participate in this and simultaneously not only do well for themselves, but to get the word out about compassion and care as far as animals in the wild is concerned. AMC Stars Help The World Breathe Easier!

It seems every actor has a charitable organization that ranks high on the list of those to support, but one in particular hit ALL MY CHILDREN's Stephanie Gatschet (Madison) very close to home. Her mother, Nancy, was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2006, and the traumatic event spurred the actress to start supporting the National Lung Cancer Partnership and educate others on the lack of knowledge and funding for the horrifying disease. Her latest effort to help the cause: organizing a Free To Breathe fundraising yogathon that will be taking place on Sunday, March 20. "I thought I would lose my mom, who happens to be my best friend in the world," Gatschet says. "The odds were against her, so when she did survive, she felt like she really had to take the opportunity to use the new life that she was granted to help other people... and given all that I learned after my mom's battle, I felt I wanted to do my part, too."

Some of the scary stats that Gatschet learned include the fact that lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of women -- taking more lives than breast cancer, ovarian cancer and colon cancer combined -- and that despite those numbers, it's the least funded cancer out there. "The stigma of lung cancer being a smoker's disease really stands in the way of getting the proper funding and awareness," she points out. "And it's so unfortunate, not only because it doesn't really matter if a person smoked or not -- no one deserves to get cancer -- but more than half of the people diagnosed with lung cancer now are non-smokers! Everyone should know about that, and the more we can remove the lung cancer conversation from the smoking relation, the more progress we'll make in curing it."

Gatschet and several of her AMC co-stars, including Cameron Mathison (Ryan), Christina Bennett Lind (Bianca), Denise Vasi (Randi) and Jordi Vilasuso (Griffin), will be taking part in the yogathon, which is being held at Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge, CA -- the same place AMC tapes a lot of their on-location shots! -- and the actress hopes fans will join her and her co-stars or at least help donate to the cause that's so close to her heart. Beck Has A Hot Date With Stamos!

When John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GENERAL HOSPITAL) guest stars on LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT next month, another soap alum will be joining him! "Doing a spot this week on SVU with John Stamos!" an excited Noelle Beck (Lily, AS THE WORLD TURNS; Tricia, LOVING) tells Soaps In Depth. "Should be a good one!"

In the episode titled "Bang," Stamos will play an adoption attorney with a secret passion, and Footloose star Lori Singer also appears, as a new mother struggling with her additional responsibilities. Fresh off her first guest appearance on CBS' BLUE BLOODS in late February -- her second episode is scheduled to air on Friday, March 11 -- Beck is thrilled about the primetime work. "Life after Lily!" she jokes. "I'm playing Dr. Audrey Shelton, a specialist in reproductive abusers. I'm brought in to assist Benson [played by Mariska Hargitay] and Stabler [Christopher Meloni] with the case.... but she has a dark past," Beck teases.

LAW & ORDER: SVU airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC. The episode with Stamos and Beck is tentatively scheduled to air on April 6.

The character is described as "a fashionable, fit, smart, sexy woman in her 30s or 40s who sports a New Jersey accent." (Hmm... does that sound similar to someone else we know?) Zimmer & Newman Together Again!

As GUIDING LIGHT's Josh and Reva, portrayers Robert Newman and Kim Zimmer (now Echo, ONE LIFE TO LIVE) will forever have a place in soap history as one of daytime's supercouples. And this spring, the duo will reunite when they star in the musical murder mystery Curtains! The production of the Broadway hit is a joint venture between Houston's Theatre Under The Stars and The Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ. The show will run in Texas at the Hobby Center For The Performing Arts from Tuesday, March 29, through Sunday, April 10, then head to New Jersey from Wednesday, April 27, through Sunday, May 22.

Curtains follows the unraveling of a theater company on opening night, shortly after the leading actress meets an untimely death. Newman stars in the production as Detective Frank Cioffi, a musical theater fan who takes on the case and finds himself dealing with egos and eccentricities, more dead bodies than he bargained for, and a budding love affair. Meanwhile, Zimmer stars as brassy Broadway producer Carmen Bernstein.

For tickets to see Curtains in Texas (starting at just $24), visit, or call (713) 558-TUTS. For the show's New Jersey performances, visit, or call (973) 376-4343.
