Trevor St. John Exits Early!

As ONE LIFE TO LIVE prepares to leave the airwaves, there will be many announcements of fan favorite actors returning to their roles as well as current cast members who are leaving before the soap comes to an end. On the heels of Farah Fath's (Gigi) shocking exit comes news from Trevor St. John (Todd) that he will be leaving the canvas later this summer.

"I want to let you know that my current contract on One Life to Live is coming to an end and my last shooting day on the show will likely come the week of July 18th," St. John wrote on his Web site. "Although I expressed an interest in continuing to perform on the show beyond the aforementioned date the producers have decided they'd rather press on without me. To be clear, I was not fired. But the producers feel it's in the show's best interest not to write any more story for my character. I don't think I can adequately express my gratitude to all of you who have supported me for the last eight years. It's been my great honor and pleasure to play the character of Todd. And I can only hope that I served you well and that I did you proud. I've also enjoyed the pleasure of meeting many of you in person through the years and I hope we have the opportunity to meet again as my career progresses. But to all of you who have been there for me in person or in spirit -- I thank you."

Obviously, we don't have a final airdate for St. John at this time, but we'll keep you in the loop as new information surfaces. But it seems obvious now which Todd is the real one!

After completion of his final scene, no one moved. "Everybody was kind of, 'Okay... so... I guess... okay,'" Christopher laughs. "I had been there so long, nobody really knew what to say to me."

Vet Returns To His Cult TV Series Roots

Although soap fans know Thom Christopher as a Daytime Emmy winner who's played the roles of ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Carlo/Mortimer, LOVING's Joe/Dante and GUIDING LIGHT's Dax, the actor is probably most recognized for his 1981 role as The Hawk on the cult television series BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY. This weekend, Christopher will reunite with series stars Gil Gerard and Erin Gray (Nicole, PORT CHARLES) at the Trek Expo at the John Q. Hammons UMAC Arena in Tulsa, OK. "Even during my soap opera fan encounters, fans always asked me about Hawk," he recalls. "BUCK ROGERS was my first TV series, and playing The Hawk was an exotic, creative, challenging role that caught on with the audience in such a short time -- beyond my belief!"

The series only lasted two seasons, but was a smash hit with science-fiction fans. "Everyone thinks that the character I played was on for the entire 37 or 38 episodes. It was only the last 13," says Christopher. "Nobody expected that kind of reaction in just 13 weeks. I attribute it to what the writers did in making him the outsider looking for some place to call home emotionally, physically, as this kind of isolated person. So I think that's what really caught on, and characters like that invariably do."

This weekend will mark the first time in years that Christopher, Gray and Gerard are together again. "The last time was about five years ago in Orlando at The Mega Con Festival," he notes. "It's going to be a nice reunion for us being together again."

Trek Expo, happening this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, is a science fiction convention held annually in Oklahoma. For more information, visit For more about Christopher, visit

Cook & Zucker Give Back

GENERAL HOSPITAL star Jason Cook (Matt) has partnered with his friend -- and former DAYS OF OUR LIVES co-star -- Arianne Zucker (Nicole) for an exciting new project that will allow the actors to give back and make a positive and lasting impact on the world. Together with Zucker's brother, Todd, they've created a philanthropic Web site and documentary series called LifeCHANGE.

"We'll take six young adults and we're going to change the trajectory of their lives," Cook tells Soaps In Depth. Not only will the young adults be working toward changing their lives, but also the lives of the complete strangers they meet through volunteer work. "They're going to go on a whirlwind trip for a month, doing different events like Habitat For Humanity. It's like THE AMAZING RACE with a good point."

Casting for LifeCHANGE is currently underway. "We want fans to send in a video, saying why they want a life-changing experience for a month, to," says Cook. Video submissions should be kept to two minutes, and applicants will also be required to fill out a questionnaire telling the LifeCHANGE team why they would like to take this chance. Shooting will begin in a few months, with the documentary set to air next summer on the LifeCHANGE Web site.

Fath's Farewell

ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Llanview is preparing to say goodbye to Farah Fath as Rex debates whether to give his beloved would-be wife's heart to a dying Clint. "I'm just really trying to look forward and not dwell on losing a job," Fath tells Soaps In Depth. "I've learned so much on OLTL, and I'm taking all of the things that I've learned with me."

Fath adds that the storyline twist that results from Gigi's demise may close the door for her alter ego, but it opens up many others for the characters still on the canvas. "It's going to be a great umbrella story. It's going to be a good thing."

And even after Gigi is taken off life support, OLTL viewers may not have seen the end of Fath just yet. "I can't say I'm 100-percent done," she teases.

GH's Brown Says 'Bye

Let's get right to the point... is GENERAL HOSPITAL's "certifiable" surgeon, Dr. Lisa Niles, dead or not? Truthfully, it looks like "not." Now, before Scrubs fans get their panties in a bunch knowing that the woman who attempted to both destroy and end Robin's life isn't roasting marshmallows in hell, there is a lot of storyline still playing out from the Robert Guza Jr. arcs. That said, with new headwriter Garin Wolf steering the ship, whether Lisa's coma is permanent or not remains to be seen. Will she wake up? If she does, will she still be "bad" or will she be redeemed? So many questions and, unfortunately, not many answers just yet.

What Could Have Been
"There's definitely a part of me that thinks there could have been some really fun stuff had they kept her with Johnny," says Lisa's uber-talented alter ego, Brianna Brown.

UPDATE: Braun Not Headed Back To GH

UPDATE: According to a GH spokesperson, this is a false rumor and Braun is not headed back to GENERAL HOSPITAL.

Tamara Braun (ex-Reese, ALL MY CHILDREN; ex-Carly, GENERAL HOSPITAL) will be exiting DAYS OF OUR LIVES as Taylor in the coming months, and the Emmy winner already has her next gig lined up: multiple sources confirm to Soaps In Depth that she's returning to GH!

Rest assured, Laura Wright fans. We hear that Carly's current portrayer is in no danger of being replaced by her predecessor. Rather, Braun will be playing a new character when she returns to Port Charles this fall!

Of course, this won't be the first past Carly to come back in the form of a new character. Sarah Joy Brown, who originated the role in 1996 before Braun took over in 2001, stepped into the stilettos of Claudia Zacchara in 2008. And Braun already has experience in playing a different character on a soap she's already called home: Prior to her current DAYS gig, the actress played Ava for 6 months in 2008, even winning a Supporting Actress Emmy for her performance!

A spokesperson for GH had no comment.

UPDATE: OLTL Scribe Heads To GH!

Earlier today, ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Robin Strasser (Dorian) revealed a whopper of a secret when she tweeted that the soap's headwriter, Ron Carlivati, was headed to GENERAL HOSPITAL to take on a position as a script writer, in hopes of eventually becoming co-headwriter. "Yo, I'm taking heat for leaving early?" the actress asked.

Insiders tell Soaps In Depth that the rumor about OLTL's enormously talented headwriter joining the GH writing team is indeed true. But OLTL fans do not have to worry about him leaving them high and dry: our well-placed sources report that Carlivati will be writing OLTL 'til the last episode in January 2012. So keep watching!

La Rue Signs On For A Pine Valley Visit!

Before there was Kendall and Zach, Maria Santos was the lady in the casino owner's life. And now, a reunion may be ahead for the former flames since the lovely doctor's portrayer, Eva La Rue, will be bringing her back to ALL MY CHILDREN!

ABC has announced that the CSI: MIAMI star is the latest alum of the soap to return to Pine Valley before AMC signs off in September, and will air in July. Just earlier this week, the network revealed that Josh Duhamel (Leo) would be making a brief appearance, and the soap had already secured fan favorites Cady McClain (Dixie) and Thorsten Kaye (Zach) to reprise their roles. While Transformers star Duhamel is scheduled to only appear in an episode or two -- most likely as a ghost from what sources tell Soaps In Depth -- a spokesperson for the show confirms that LaRue's stint will be spread out over several episodes next month. She first joined the AMC cast in 1993, and left in 1997. La Rue returned in 2002, but the character moved to California in 2005 after spinning out of control following the death of her husband, Edmund (played by John Callahan). Even though she was already starring on hit CBS crime drama, La Rue made a brief AMC appearance as Maria last year during the soap's 40th anniversary celebration in the documentary shot by Kelly Ripa's Hayley.

What other characters from AMC's past would you like to see return to Pine Valley before the last episode airs?

The teen sitcom -- debuting on Friday, July 1 -- is a comedy about two surf buddies navigating the trials and tribulations of high school. "I'm playing Vera, the older sister of Aloe. Har, har," Berman tells Soaps In Depth with a smile. Vera is a world-class surfer and international celebrity, who returns to town to be honored by the mayor. But Aloe's jealousy of her turns everything into a competition, as he tries to upstage Vera's big day and focus the attention back on himself!

A Nickelodeon rep says that at this time, Berman is only scheduled for a one-time appearance, but that is subject to change in the future. And as for the rumors that Berman is exiting Port Charles, the actress assures In Depth that "I have no plans on leaving in the near future."

As soon as we know when Berman's episode of BUCKET & SKINNER'S EPIC ADVENTURES will air, we'll pass it on!

Is Leo Returning For Greenlee?

The news that Josh Duhamel will make an appearance on ALL MY CHILDREN as Leo before the soap signs off on September 23 is a bittersweet announcement for many of the show's fans... including those on the Soaps In Depth staff! The character allegedly died when Leo went over a waterfall in October 2002 trying to save his wife, Rebecca Budig's Greenlee, from his mother, Vanessa. But since his body was never found, die-hard Leo and Greenlee fans have been hopeful that one day their favorite couple would be reunited.

During his AMC stint, the Transformers star was nominated for a Daytime Emmy four times, taking home the Outstanding Supporting Actor award in 2002. Even after he left Pine Valley, Duhamel was vocal about his daytime roots, crediting AMC for his big break. "Everyone at AMC is thrilled and excited to welcome Josh back to Pine Valley," says executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers. "The appearance of Leo is sure to be one of the highlights of the season."

But how, exactly, will Leo tie into storyline when Duhamel makes his brief appearance -- likely to be only an episode or two -- in August? One theory is that after all these years, a very alive Leo will return to Pine Valley to take his soulmate back to Paris, where they were planning to move before Greens was kidnapped by her evil mother-in-law. (Sorry, Rylee fans!) While that is the plot twist that most fans (ourselves included!) are hoping for, In Depth hears that Duhamel's appearance may be as a ghost or in a dream sequence.

Tell us below how you want to see Duhamel's return play out!

What Does Couric's Deal Mean For GH?

ABC Daytime announced today that television journalist Katie Couric has signed a multi-year, multi-platform deal with the network to host and produce her own nationally syndicated talk show and to join the ABC News team. The former TODAY SHOW co-anchor will launch her new program in September 2012.

The eight ABC-owned stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Raleigh/Durham (N.C.) and Fresno (CA) -- which make up 23% of the nation's TV households -- have already cleared the new show in the 3:00 p.m. time slot. What does that mean for GENERAL HOSPITAL, which airs at that time in many markets? Most likely, GH will air in an earlier timeslot. For now, the network will return the last hour of its Daytime network block to affiliates no earlier than September 2012. The network's press release states that ABC continues to support GH and the plans to launch THE CHEW this September (replacing ALL MY CHILDREN) and THE REVOLUTION in January 2012 (after ONE LIFE TO LIVE ends).

ABC insiders tell Soaps In Depth that no decision about GH will officially be made by ABC until sometime next year. As the network heads into the launch of Couric's new show in September 2012, they will take a look at how all the shows -- GH, The Revolution and The Chew -- are doing in the ratings. At that point, any of them could be canned, cut down to 30 minutes, etc. As with any business, it will come down to ratings and profits.

What can GH fans do to save their soap? Not only tune in and watch themselves, but get other people to watch. Ratings will be what makes the final call next year about GH's fate.

UPDATE: ABC spokesperson Jori Petersen says "the announcement does not mean the inevitable cancellation of General Hospital. Rather it means that in September 2012 we will program our daytime block with our three strongest shows. We'll have options for the Daytime daypart just like with do each year with Primetime. We believe in all of our shows and the ones that our viewers want, will be the ones that continue. There are many options that could happen... only time will tell... we are simply giving ourselves options for the future, which is a smart way to do business. The best way to ensure a favorite show stays on the air is to watch it."

Marcil Giovinazzo Opens Up About Her GH Exit!

It's official: Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo (Brenda) is nearing the end of her latest GENERAL HOSPITAL run, and will soon tape her final scenes. Yesterday, the actress posted an on-set photo with co-star Maurice Benard (Sonny) on her Official Facebook Fan Page labeled "last weeks with Maurice," and last night, Marcil Giovinazzo tweeted that her exit story has "a twist!"

While many fans were hoping that the actress would stick around Port Charles, the plan was always for Marcil Giovinazzo to be on the canvas for approximately a year. "I was always 'coming for a visit,'" she tells Soaps In Depth. "I never described it as anything other than a visit. And that's what it is. I always hate leaving. It's always devastating to me. I love it there so much, but I've never, ever made it sound like it wasn't going to have an end. I came for a very specific amount of episodes and a very specific amount of time. Nothing has changed."

Prior to her return last summer, it was rumors of a different sort that Sorenda fans bandied about. "It was always that I was coming back when I was under contract with NBC [for LAS VEGAS] and clearly couldn't come back," she says. "All of that stuff I understand is kind of fun to kind of guess about. But they are untruths."

In an attempt to manage the rumor mill herself, the normally private actress has taken to social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter in recent months. "The problem is when other people say things are factual when they're not," she explains of her motivation to join the sites. "It'll be fun to clear up simple things like that."

< You can follow Marcil Giovinazzo at or on Twitter @VanessaMarcilG. And be sure to check back with Soaps In Depth for our exit interview with the fan favorite!
