More OLTL Stars Sign On!

VerDornArcher28004.jpg

Great news, soap fans! Pending an agreement with the WGA, ONE LIFE TO LIVE's headwriter Ron Carlivati has agreed to continue penning Llanview's drama when the show moves on-line next year instead of moving to GENERAL HOSPITAL as had been recently reported! In addition, Melissa Archer (Natalie), Jerry VerDorn (Clint), Kelley Missal (Danielle), Sean Ringgold (Shaun) and Andrew Trischitta (Jack) have also reached deals with the production company. Considering Erika Slezak (Viki), Kassie DePaiva (Blair), Michael Easton (John) and Ted King (Tomas) have all agreed to stay, it looks like the Cramers, Lords and Buchanans will all be well-represented on the Web!

Catch Brown On HOMELAND!

Brianna3.jpg

Not only will Showtime's intriguing new psychological drama HOMELAND feature Claire Danes as a kick-ass CIA operative on a mission to uncover an Al-Qaeda plot, but it will also feature GENERAL HOSPITAL's own crazy lady, Brianna Brown (Lisa)! In a two-episode stint beginning Sunday, October 9, Brown plays Lynne Reed, a former midwestern beauty queen who's made an intriguing career choice. "Essentially, she is a paid prostitute for a Saudi prince," the actress reveals, adding that her character is also working on the sly for the CIA.

While Brown has made numerous appearances in primetime before, this one made use of her experiences playing Lisa's crazy kangaroo court on the soap. "I have a big, long monologue where I'm prepping one of the girls who is potentially going to be joining the next year's harem," she reveals. "So I am spewing out information, and I was glad that I had a lot of that on GH because it was no problem."

Brown says the series (which premieres this Sunday, October 2) will strike a chord with GH fans as well. "It's solid writing, and it really pushes the boundaries of how we think," she previews. "It's not soapy at all, but GH's got a similar edge with all the mob stuff."

Tune in on Sunday nights at 10 p.m. EST.

Braun Bags It For Charity!

Braun2.jpg

DAYS OF OUR LIVES' Tamara Braun (Taylor; ex-Reese, ALL MY CHILDREN; ex-Carly, GENERAL HOSPITAL) is inviting fans to join her at the Therapeutic Living Center For The Blind's "Bags To Riches" event to raise funds for an early intervention program. "The organization [allows residents] their dignity and integrity and teaches them to get on in this world," Braun says of the organization, with which she's been involved for a decade. "I think that for people who are not blind, we need to take a lesson from them and see with our hearts the way that they do."

The Bags To Riches red carpet event and charity auction featuring new and gently used designer purses -- one of which was donated by Braun herself! -- will take place from 8-11 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, at The Colony nightclub in Hollywood. "I like to raise as much awareness for TLC as I can in the hope of enabling the organization to continue its endeavors via increased donations," Braun says of her involvement. "Sometimes I just go over there to say 'hi' and see how things are coming along, and other times I may do an activity with the residents, such as making holiday cookies."

The actress is going the distance for the Bags To Riches event -- she's even invited daytime pals Arianne Zucker (Nicole, DAYS) and Alicia Minshew (Kendall, AMC), among others, to participate and/or donate purses. "I hope that as many people who can will come out and have a good time," says Braun. "There will be a wonderful DJ, a whole host of sponsors, food, an open bar, and live and silent auctions. It should be a really good time for an absolutely great cause."

Tickets begin at $25, with special packages available for larger donations; to purchase, visit www.tlcbags2riches.eventbrite.com. To learn more about the Therapeutic Learning Center For The Blind, visit www.tlc4blind.org.

Good News For AMC!

Mathison.jpg

During an appearance as a GOOD MORNING AMERICA special correspondent earlier today, Cameron Mathison (Ryan) announced that he and several other ALL MY CHILDREN castmembers are in negotiations with Prospect Park to join their on-line reboot of the soap!

"I have been given permission to announce that I and others from ALL MY CHILDREN have been approached by the company, Prospect Park, who bought AMC with the intention to move it online," he shared. "Just as soaps were very pivotal in the transition from radio to television, they will be right in the thick of things again in the transition from television to the Internet." Mathison added that while there are a few more details to be hammered out before any contracts are finalized, "it's looking very good."

Pending union approval on the final contracts with AMC and the ONE LIFE TO LIVE stars who have already signed on with the production company, Prospect Park hopes to launch both soaps on an Internet channel in January 2012. AMC Star Remembers Fickett

Knight.jpg

Having played Ruth and Joe Martin's adopted son, Tad, for decades on ALL MY CHILDREN, Michael E. Knight developed a close bond with Mary Fickett (Ruth), and like the rest of the daytime world, was saddened to learn of her passing on September 8. "Mary was a very dear friend, and an incredible actress," the actor tells Soaps In Depth. "Her talent and her warmth were a major part of AMC for years. I have always been grateful for the years I was able to work with her and am deeply saddened by her passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends at such a difficult time. She was dearly loved by so many, many people."

Fickett was an original AMC cast member, having played beloved nurse Ruth Brent Martin from 1970-1995, and again from 1998-2000. In a statement, the network says "as we honor AMC's 41 years on ABC, we cannot help but recognize and remember Mary's wonderful depiction of Pine Valley's revered Ruth. Ruth's marriage to chief of staff Dr. Joe Martin provided the bedrock upon which the town of Pine Valley was built. Their marriage was always a stabilizing force that represented "home" for many. In memoriam, the network will dedicate the September 21 episode to Mary, which specifically focuses on the Martins. We extend our deepest sympathy and thoughts to Mary's family and longtime fans."

AMC Legend Passes Away

MartinFam.jpg

Original ALL MY CHILDREN cast member Mary Fickett (ex-Ruth) died at the age of 83 on September 8, at her home in Callao, Virginia. She had a 50-year career that spanned radio, television and film, but perhaps her most popular role was the one she played for three decades on AMC. Fickett even received the first-ever Emmy Award given to a soap performer in 1973 for Ruth's emotional monologue about her fears for her son, who'd just been drafted to the Vietnam War. "It's my claim to fame," Fickett told Soaps In Depth in 2005. "I got the first Emmy they'd ever awarded to anybody in daytime [before the creation of the Daytime Emmy Awards]. Ruth thought that their son has been killed. It was important to me because we had very personal feelings -- all of us did -- about the war. And because Agnes wrote the whole storyline, it was beautifully done and very moving."

Fickett retired in 1996, but briefly appeared on AMC in 2000; the role of Ruth was later recast with Lee Meriwether. Look for ABC to dedicate the Wednesday, September 21, episode of AMC to Fickett.

Don't Miss TV Guide's AMC Tribute!

Mathison_Lucci11810.jpg

The TV Guide Network has tapped Cameron Mathison (Ryan) to host ALL MY CHILDREN: THE STARS, STORIES, AND SECRETS, which airs on Sunday, September 11 at 8 PM ET.

"Cameron was our first choice to host since he's not only one of the most famous faces currently on AMC, but he also gained new fans during his stint on ABC's DANCING WITH THE STARS and often appears on GOOD MORNING AMERICA," Bettina Charles, Supervising Producer, TV Guide Network tells Soaps In Depth. "He's a natural. It was an easy choice."

For Mathison, this wasn't just another hosting gig. "This is a gift that the TV Guide Network has given me," the actor tells In Depth. "It was really fun and therapeutic to have this opportunity to reminisce with so many people who are either on the show or who've been on it."

Mathison talked to actors including Eva LaRue (Maria), Josh Duhamel (ex-Leo) and many others. "I went to Philadelphia to interview Kim Delaney [ex-Jenny.] We sat and talked for almost an hour. It was really fun. I learned that Jenny was one of the first auditions Kim ever did."

Not surprisingly, the show will include some waterworks. "Eva and I both started crying during our interview," Mathison reveals. "ALL MY CHILDREN is such a special place. It's a unique family."

While fans are hopeful that AMC will continue on with Prospect Park on the web and possibly television, too, Charles says that "this is mainly a farewell to the show since it's ending its run on ABC. But there is mention of the show's possible on-line future."

So tune in and stay tuned!

The New Face Of Kate Howard!

SonnyKate.jpg

When GENERAL HOSPITAL welcomes Kelly Sullivan to the cast as Kate Howard starting the week of September 12, headwriter Garin Wolf says that the storyline will be "focusing more on the Connie Falconeri [angle]" -- ie, Kate's real moniker that she left behind. "Connie is the real woman and Kate was the mask. Everything Sonny does and is doing is based on what happened in that neighborhood at that time. That's where Sonny the gangster was born. There were two women there that watched him being born -- Connie and Olivia."

Kate/Connie plays a big part in Sonny's future, as she reluctantly gets involved opening a few doors for him. "It's going to get really, really, really interesting!" previews Sullivan. "Yes, I'm a returning character, but yet, what I bring is a hard strength and ferocity to her. She's hard-edged. With each scene I'm given, I learn more about her strengths, but she's also a very lonely woman. She doesn't let many people in. As much as she fights, there are some people that break through that wall. When they do, it's extremely vulnerable and exposing for her."

Although Kate tries desperately to turn off her attraction to Sonny, it just is not happening. One of the reasons -- Maurice Benard (Sonny)! "It's so incredible to work with Maurice because he has this way that he looks at me," Sullivan explains. "I can't look at him that much because he sees through me and into my soul. He knows Kate and he sees through that facade."

That inability to disconnect from Sonny could present a very big problem for Kate. "It's like, don't invite in the vampire if you don't want to get bit in the neck," laughs Wolf.

Mathison Lines Up Two New Jobs!

Mathison.jpg

ALL MY CHILDREN just wrapped production for ABC earlier this week, but Cameron Mathison (Ryan) already has a new gig lined up -- and with another Pine Valley fan fave! The actor will star opposite Sydney Penny (ex-Julia) in the upcoming Lifetime movie The Wife He Met Online. "Sydney's the lead, and I'm right up there [in a supporting role]. Isn't that the best thing in the world?" Mathison marvels. "When I heard that, it was a big factor in my decision to be away from my family for three weeks."

Having played a romantic leading man for the better part of the last 13 years on AMC, Mathison can't wait to sink his teeth into the mystery thriller. "I don't get to do that too often," he shares. "It's a cool character not that dissimilar to Ryan, but at the same time, I'm going to try to add some differences. It's nice to get a movie role right out of the gate."

The made-for-television movie isn't Mathison's only new project. When Internet giant Yahoo launches a series of original Web programs starting October 3, Mathison will be helping prospective grooms pop the question in some rather unusual ways -- including one arrival by parachute! -- as the host of ULTIMATE PROPOSAL.
