ABC Affiliates To Drop GH?

If you've been on the Internet lately -- and obviously you have -- you may have seen the buzz that some fans have been told by their local ABC affiliates that GENERAL HOSPITAL is off of the schedule as of June 2012. Naturally, we wanted to get to the bottom of this, and here's what we know so far: According to a rep in one major market, they have not received word that GH will be dropped from the line-up this spring. A spokesperson for another affiliate agreed, saying, "I haven't heard anything about that, but I'll carry GH as long as ABC gives it to me." However, one little birdie at a major affiliate did tell us this: it looks like they have been informed that GH will get a new time slot, but whether that's in May or September remains to be seen. We're waiting on official comment from an ABC Daytime spokesperson. Be sure to check in for updates as we get them!

UPDATE: A spokesperson for ABC Daytime says that there is no truth to the rumor that GH will be absent from the schedules of some affiliates this summer, and that those stations have not been saying so to viewers.

THE BAY Returns Today!

The hit Web series THE BAY returns with new episodes starting today, Thursday, October 27! "This season will center more on the Garrett family," executive producer/creator Gregori Martin previews. As regular viewers of THE BAY know, Mary Beth Evans (Kayla, DAYS OF OUR LIVES; ex-Sierra, AS THE WORLD TURNS; ex-Katherine, GENERAL HOSPITAL) plays matriarch Sara Garrett, mother of Brian (Dylan Bruce, Chris, ATWT), Marly (Martha Madison, ex-Liz, GH; ex-Belle, DAYS), and Peter (Kristos Andrews). "This season is a little edgier and there's more glamour," reveals Martin. "The stories move a lot faster and our focus is on central characters."

There may be a wedding if Brian and Zoey (played by Taylor Stanley; Remy, ANOTHER WORLD) take the plunge. "Season 1 was about their engagement and now we're going to see whether or not the marriage will happen," Martin teases.

"Brian doesn't want to lose his fiancée," says Bruce, noting that his character's encounter with Isabella may come back to haunt him. "He didn't really do anything wrong. He was drugged, but he's still worried about losing Zoey."

New cast members this season include GH alums Jackie Zeman (ex-Bobbie) and Paul Satterfield (ex-Paul; ex-Spencer, ONE LIFE TO LIVE). Look for Zeman to play Sophia, the wife of Mayor Jack Madison (Nicolas Coster, Eduardo, ATWT; Robert, AW; Lionel, SANTA BARBARA), while Satterfield is replacing Joe Lando (ex-Jake, OLTL; Macauley, GUIDING LIGHT) as Lee. "Joe did two days with us," Martin shares. "We'll probably end up re-shooting his scenes for [our] TV [version], but they'll be on the Web."

"Sophia is a southern belle," Zeman shares. "I don't know exactly where we're going with her, but she's vivacious and fun. She loves life and her husband. Gregori's told me some people are not glad she's married to the mayor so maybe she's an opportunist? We'll see."

As for Lee, Satterfield notes that his alter ego and Sara have "been married three times. The third time was supposed to be the charm. Lee and Sara have a tumultuous relationship. Even though they're with different people they still have a strong connection. He's madly in love with her and always will be."

Zeman feels that Web soaps like THE BAY are the future of the genre. "People still love their soaps and their characters," she says.

Check out Season 2 of THE BAY beginning today at 3:15 p.m. EST at For a preview of the show's new opening sequence, click here.

It's Raining Men!

If you're like us, you haven't yet stopped crying over ALL MY CHILDREN coming to an end on ABC. But wipe away those years, because Walt Willey (Jack), Darnell Williams (Jesse), Cameron Mathison (Ryan), Michael E. Knight (Tad), Jacob Young (ex-JR; Rick, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) and Vincent Irizarry (David) are bringing a whole lot of PV fun your way! Via the Tribute to Pine Valley tour -- which hits the NY metro area in various locations on October 25, 26 and 27 -- the actors plan on wowing, entertaining and paying tribute to all you die hard AMC fans who may have missed out on the show's as-of-now final fan club weekend. "Back East, that was our home, and many of the fans haven't seen us in a while," says Irizarry. "And [the East Coast] fans are just as rabid as many of them here on the West Coast!"

The events consist of both a Q&A session, as well as a meet and greet portion for VIP ticket holders. And both are sure to be a blast! "Whenever we do these types of events, they're completely non-scripted, and the audience, really, is the greater part of the entertainment!" the actor smiles. "They're very, very vocal, and you sort of just ride with them. Whatever they come up, with you go with it. And it's a lot of fun. When people leave, they've always had a great time. So I'm looking forward to it."

But Irizarry says you better hurry if you plan on buying a VIP ticket! "There's a limited number of VIP tickets still available, so people should get on top of it," he suggests. "Not only do you get the best seats, but you also get some up close and personal time after the show with the actors, so those are the ones people seem to be grabbing. So I'd encourage people, if they're interested, that they might want to consider that."

But either way, Irizarry promises that he and his co-stars will be bringing plenty of fun and laughs. "I guarantee people will not be disappointed," he teases. "It will be a lot of fun."

Ainsworth Is Done At GH

Ending weeks of speculation regarding her future at GENERAL HOSPITAL, Lexi Ainsworth tweeted on October 7 that she'd taped her final scenes as Kristina the day before. The Online Network Strikes Music Deal

The Online Network has partnered with Universal Music Group, the world's leading music company, to license tunes from UMG's libraries to use on ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE when both series relaunch on-line. Not only will UMG's recorded music and songs be used on the soaps, but the deal will also allow for cross-promotion, E-commerce and artist participation with the new productions. (For example, the E-commerce integration will allow fans the opportunity to purchase the music used in episodes of the soaps, and access other exclusive content only available on-line.)

UMG is no stranger to OLTL. Along with Prospect Park owner Jeff Kwatinetz, UMG worked with the soap to feature recording artists like Snoop Dogg, One Republic, Mary J. Blige and Puddle Of Mudd in various episodes. "As we continue to develop programming for our on-line network, we are taking every facet of production into consideration to create a premium product for our viewers," said Kwatinetz and partner Rich Frank in a joint statement. "Previously, these programs have not focused on, or had limited contemporary music and artist involvement, and through UMG we can deliver fans from around the world access to some of the world's most popular music and artists, all leading to better production, storylines and program experience."

Adds UMG president and COO Zach Horowitz, "this unique arrangement offers our artists and songwriters a special opportunity for exposure on two of the most iconic soap operas ever. The on-line network for the programs is an exciting new vehicle for consumers to connect with our artists and their work, and purchase music seamlessly as they hear it on each episode."

Relive Some Classic Soap Scenes With New E-Book!

Alina Adams has done it again! The New York Times best-selling author of AS THE WORLD TURNS and GUIDING LIGHT tie-ins Oakdale Confidential, The Man From Oakdale, and Guiding Light: Jonathan's Story, has just released her latest soap opera-themed tome, Soap Opera 451: A Time Capsule Of Daytime Drama's Greatest Moments. The enhanced E-book -- which can be obtained by downloading the free Kindle app from to any Internet-enabled device -- will allow readers to have a truly interactive experience as they read about 45 of daytime drama's greatest moments as voted on by industry insiders and fans alike.

"People sent me by E-mail, Facebook, and Twitter their memories of the scenes that meant so much to them. Then I went to the actors, writers, and producers who had been part of those scenes to ask them how they came together," Adams explains of how the compilation came together.

In the book, readers can hear Linda Dano recount playing Felicia's intervention on ANOTHER WORLD, Eden Riegel relate her memories of Bianca declaring her sexuality on ALL MY CHILDREN, Michael Corbett regaling the tale of David Kimble's death on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS by trash compactor and more... and then click on provided links provided to see video clips, leave comments, or find out what the actors are doing now. "You can read about the scene, watch the scene, and contact the actor and [share] your thoughts!" Adams enthuses. "In that way, the book will not become stagnant because all of those pages will be constantly updated."

Having spent 30 years watching all of the great serial dramas that have come and gone, as well as those still on the air, Adams promises that there will be a little of something included for every fan. "There's a lot of talk about where soaps went wrong and what can we do to fix them. Those are completely legitimate questions and things that people should be asking in order to save and reinvent the genre," maintains Adams, who has also penned a slew of mystery and romance novels. "But I also wanted to talk about what soaps did right and ask: what were these moments that really had people glued to their TV sets? Because sometimes we can learn a lot from [identifying] and emulating that."

OLTL Actress Reveals Breast Cancer Struggle!

ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Andrea Evans (Tina) is now making her private battle with stage one breast cancer public. Diagnosed this past April following her annual mammogram, Evans tells Soaps In Depth that she initially didn't feel any abnormalities during her routine self-exam. "I missed it, and that frequently happens," she says, adding that she instantly hit the ground running with treatment.

"It was my choice to go through more aggressive treatment because I want the chances of recurrence to be null and non-existent. I had options presented to me that would have been the easier route. I chose the more difficult route because I don't want to go through this again," explains Evans, who returned to the OLTL set only a few weeks after completing chemotherapy and undergoing reconstructive surgery.

"It was very important for me to come forward now that the treatment is done. I'm back at work not only to let the fans know how important they are to me, but to have the fans see what they wanted -- Tina and Cord together again," smiles Evans. With a clean bill of health and literally a new lease on life, the beloved actress hopes that sharing her story will help other women to be proactive. "If you feel something, take care of it. Get your mammograms," insists Evans who for years served as the celebrity ambassador for City Of Hope's Breast Cancer Walk. "I stood on podiums all over the country telling women to get their mammograms, and that same advice saved my life!"

Editor's Note: October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Kiko Ellsworth (ex-Stan; Jamal, PORT CHARLES) and his wife Christina Carlo (ex-Leticia) welcomed their first child, daughter Zen Satya Ellsworth, on August 28 at 4:35 p.m. "Satya means truth in Sanskrit," the proud papa explains.

What has the experience of parenthood been like? "I don't know how people answer that question with words!" he offers. "The feelings, the emotions, the expansion of my spirit and vision for my life... I'm literally not the same person." While adjusting to early morning feedings is daunting for most, Ellsworth has a unique perspective. He's already been up at 4 a.m. for a year practicing Sadhana yoga. "It's really been a pleasure for me," he says. "I've been able to focus on my meditation and writing and creativity early in the morning, but now I'm getting up at 4 a.m. for the baby, and it's a gift that keeps on giving."

With his work as The Rogue on ABC Family's THE NINE LIVES OF CHLOE KING now wrapped, Ellsworth is grateful for being at home right now and to bond with his family. "She sleeps on my chest every morning," he sighs.
