Interview: Be A Part Of Cook's Film Project!

We all know that GENERAL HOSPITAL's Jason Cook (Matt) can act, but did you know that he's a writer and director as well? In fact, Cook has hopes of working with co-star Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) in a short film he's written called Genreful, and is looking for fans like you to help get it done! The actor has put the project up on Kickstarter, a funding platform for creative projects, in hopes of getting $50,000 pledged by Sunday, May 27, to film the movie. So if you want to go into business with Cook, this is your chance!

Genreful will star Anderson as Anton, who is determined to commit suicide, but is talked down off the proverbial ledge by his neighbor, Hannah. But when her Crazy Ex (played by Jason Mewes of Jay And Silent Bob fame) later sees the two out on a date, he brutally beats Anton and kidnaps Hannah! As an injured Anton tries to rescue Hannah, the movie will shift tones, embracing the devices of drama, romantic comedy, thriller, action, horror, animation and sci-fi all at the same time!

"The reason we brought it to Kickstarter is because the unique nature of the project merits a unique way of getting it funded and produced," shares Cook. "With short films, there's really not a revenue stream for them. If you can spread the cost out amongst a lot of different people, then it becomes less expensive. And if you can offer value to those people -- which, in this case, is Bradford in a light that GENERAL HOSPITAL fans have not seen him portray yet. I'm interested in that as a director, an actor, and his friend, so I'm hoping the fans see it the same way. And the same principle goes for Jason Mewes. His fan base is a lot different than Bradford's. And then there's Frank Collison. He's a character actor, and completely transforms himself in every single film. He's going to be playing a doctor in Genreful, which is less character-y than he's used to doing. So I'm trying to provide these opportunities to these really talented actors, and at the same time, provide an opportunity to fans to be a part of the process of what goes in to making a film."

Roche Returns To CRIMINAL MINDS!

The two-hour season finale of CRIMINAL MINDS airs on CBS on Wednesday, May 16, and Sebastian Roche (ex-Jerry, GENERAL HOSPITAL) will be back as Interpol Agent Clyde Easter! The back-to-back episodes are titled "Hit" and "Run," and follow the BAU as they go up against a gang of serial-killing bank robbers in Washington, D.C. -- only to see one of their own become a hostage! "I make a surprise appearance for the last two episodes, for the finale," Roche tells Soaps In Depth of his character, Agent Easter. "He's a good guy actually. That's unusual for me. I worked mostly with Paget Brewster (Emily), as I did last time."

When In Depth caught up with the actor yesterday, he was in Italy promoting one of his other memorable guest-starring roles. "I'm actually in Rome right now doing a SUPERNATURAL convention," he shares. (Roche played Balthazar, a shady angel friend of Castiel's on The CW drama last fall.) "The fans have been crazy."

The two-hour seventh season finale of CRIMINAL MINDS kicks off at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 16, on CBS.

Update: Barash Buzz Not True!

UPDATE: Perhaps better late than never, GH executive producer Frank Valentini has taken to his Twitter page to set the record straight about Barash's future in Port Charles. "Hey, what's with all these rumors about @BrandonBarash leaving?" posted GH's boss this morning. "NOT HAPPENING."

Over the weekend, the rumor mill was turning like crazy with talk that Brandon Barash would be exiting GENERAL HOSPITAL when his character, Johnny, is killed off the canvas during May Sweeps. Almost immediately, his fans banned together to generate a Twitition -- aka a Twitter petition -- to save Barash's GH role.

When castmate Kelly Sullivan (Kate) retweeted the link, the actor himself spoke up and said that he has "no idea if I'm being written off. @KellySullivanNY is being a good friend and scene partner. That being said, I accept any hand I'm dealt."

So is Barash's Johnny going to join his mother/sister, Claudia, in the great big soap opera sky? Not necessarily, from what Soaps In Depth is hearing. And even headwriter Ron Carlivati is seemingly denying the news of Barash's exit, tweeting, "Goodnight, #GH fans. Sleep well. And don't believe everything you read."

Ainsworth Responds

During her time as GENERAL HOSPITAL's Kristina, Lexi Ainsworth garnered quite a following, so those fans were understandably upset to learn that the role had been recast with daytime newcomer Lindsey Morgan. Social networks exploded with outraged viewers voicing their sentiments, so Ainsworth herself took to the Internet to try and clear things up.

"Thank you guys for all your support, but I won't be reprising the role of Kristina," Ainsworth tweeted. "I loved her, but I've also loved being free to do film. I enjoyed meeting Frank [Valentini, GH's executive producer] and I know you will love the new Kristina that he has found. I learned so much from my GH home and want to grow further."

Ainsworth's former on-screen mom Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) supported the young actress. "I'll comment on 'new' Kristina after Lexi has commented," she posted to her Twitter stream. "I can tell you that Lexi is cool with it. Lexi's already got offers for many primetime projects. My sweet and brilliant Lexi has commented with class and dignity. Enough said. In a few years, I will be begging Lexi for a job in a movie as her grandmother."

When reached for comment about Ainsworth turning down the opportunity to return as Kristina, a rep for GH stated only that they "don't comment on actor posting on social media."

GH Stars React To Renewal News!

Soap fans weren't the only ones delighted by yesterday's news that GENERAL HOSPITAL has been saved from cancellation by ABC, with the network axing the poorly-performing THE REVOLUTION instead. The soap's stars were equally excited!

"I am so damn proud to be on General Hospital. Frank has worked his ass off to make this happen," praises Mauice Bernard (Sonny) exclusively to Soaps In Depth of the soap's new executive producer. "And if he can do this in three months, imagine where we'll be a year from now! I'm thrilled for the cast, crew, directors, producers, writers, everyone in production -- and grateful for the hard work they've all done to make General Hospital successful."

Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) echoed his on-screen father's sentiments. "Congrats to everyone who has worked so hard in front of and behind the camera to extend our GH life," he tells In Depth. "But especially to the fans. This is a big victory for you and because of you."

THE REVOLUTION will air its final episode on Friday, July 6. For the following nine weeks, until Katie Couric's syndicated new show debuts on Monday, September 10, ABC will be expanding the GOOD MORNING AMERICA franchise with the tentatively titled GMA IN THE AFTERNOON. Although the network hasn't locked in the times yet, multiple sources have been confirming to In Depth that Couric knows she can't bring in the ratings on her own and wants GH as her lead-in for the ABC owned stations that will be broadcasting her new talkshow.

"I can't tell you how excited I am for our GH family and our fans," Steve Burton (Jason) tells In Depth exclusively. "Congrats!! No flatline for this Hospital. Much luv."

Is GH Planning A Frisco & Felicia Reunion?

With GENERAL HOSPITAL fan favorite Kristina Wagner due back in Port Charles at the end of this month, might the other half of the former supercouple Felicia and Frisco Jones -- aka Jack Wagner -- be far behind? A source tells Soaps In Depth that the recent DANCING WITH THE STARS cast-off has worked out a deal to return to GH for at least one day, but a show spokesperson says that the rumor about Jack's return at this point in time is not true. However, adds the rep, the soap would gladly welcome him back whenever storyline dictates.

So while Jack's return may not be on the immediate horizon, a well-placed insider confirms that Kristina will be back on the canvas again in May! Although the actress was initially hired to reprise the role of Maxie's mother for just a short stint (which is what will begin airing the week of April 30), our source reports that GH execs asked Wagner to come back for an additional round of episodes. Is Kristina Coming Home?

Summer is rolling around and you know what that means for soaps, right? Beefing up those storylines of the younger set in order to attract a younger audience while school is out. Does that mean GENERAL HOSPITAL's Sonny will be welcoming back one (if not both) of his kids who are miles from Port Charles and out of the mob firing zone? Could be. An insider tells Soaps In Depth that the possibility of Kristina heading home from Yale for the summer break has come up in conversation with the powers that be. Good news for Kristina fans, but possibly not good news for Lexi Ainsworth fans. Although she was pre-nominated for a Daytime Emmy for her performance as Kristina, Ainsworth's returning in the role is not a given. In fact, the insider tells us that even though it was the previous regime's decision that Kristina be "matured" and there are new captains now steering the GH ship, their vision of where to take the character may be on the same course. So, Kristina's return to GH is likely. Ainsworth's return, however, is still up in the air.

AMC Hunk Starring In New Show!

Hunky Colin Egglesfield (Josh, ALL MY CHILDREN) will be turning on the charm opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt (THE GHOST WHISPERER) in the sexy new Lifetime TV series, THE CLIENT LIST, which debuts this Sunday! "The great thing about the show is that it deals with a lot of taboo stuff," Egglesfield offers. "Jennifer's character, Riley, lives this double life: In one, she's an [abandoned] housewife and mother who lives in a small town where people gossip, and in the other she's working in a spa, which she [discovers] is actually a place where men go to get 'happy endings.'"

In the drama, Egglesfield plays Evan, Riley's long-enamored brother-in-law who will step up in her life where her husband had stepped out. But can he handle the truth about all the other men in her life? "I think daytime TV fans will enjoy this show because it deals with a lot of risqué material that they are used to and love about soap operas in terms of things not always being what they seem and the mystery involved regarding where Riley's heart has been and why her husband really left," Egglesfield previews.

To learn the answers, tune in beginning Sunday, April 8, at 10 p.m. EST.

Interview: Melgar Is In The Director's Chair!

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Sonny Corinthos remembers his late first wife, Lily, as the woman who made him a better man. Likewise, fans can't think back on those days without a wistful sigh of longing. While the "saint's" portrayer, Lilly Melgar, has fond memories of Port Charles, she's plenty content with the life she's created for herself now.

In addition to raising her six-year-old daughter, Sofia -- "She's my world," the actress says -- Melgar has been bringing her creative vision to fruition by working behind the camera. "I have such a thirst and hunger for growth -- I'm always wanting to try new things and challenge myself," she explains of the reason she ventured into directing. "I produced and co-directed Black Cobra, [being released on May 22 through Lionsgate Home Entertainment], which is about a man who comes to Los Angeles to sell the family diamonds in order to get his father out of prison in South Africa."

Wagner Takes His DANCING Bow

JackDANCING2.jpg After just three weeks of competition, Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco, GENERAL HOSPITAL; ex-Nick, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) and his pro partner, Anna Trebunskaya, were eliminated from DANCING WITH THE STARS last night. "It was a great ride... it is what it is. I'm going to miss Anna and strapping it on every day," Wagner said during a press Q&A backstage after the show, adding that he did not see his dismissal coming. "I surely would have liked to have gone on farther, but this is a competition. This is how it landed, and that's life."

Now that his schedule has freed up, could a return to his soap roots be in the cards, such as a return to playing GENERAL HOSPITAL's Frisco Jones? "Wow, Frisco Jones," Wagner mused when asked by Soaps In Depth. "I have no idea. I'm just going to try to shed these clothes tonight and find Jack again. You just start over again tomorrow."

Wagner does have a plan in mind for the future, however. "I think I'm going to create my own dance show," he quipped.

OLTL Ladies Co-Star In New Film

ONE LIFE TO LIVE stars Kim Zimmer (Echo; Reva, GUIDING LIGHT) and Crystal Hunt (Stacy; Lizzie, GL) are in Corbin, KY, this week filming the upcoming family movie 23 Blast. "Very excited! Great Cast! Great Role!!!" tweeted Zimmer, while Florida native Hunt posted that she "can't wait to be back in the south."

Based on the true story of Corbin teenager Travis Freeman, who, despite losing his eyesight at the age of 13 due to bacterial meningitis, refused to let his blindness hold him back and played the position of center for the Corbin High School Redhounds. For the purposes of the movie, Travis -- who will be played by fellow soap alum Mark Hapka (ex-Nathan, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) -- goes blind as he's about to enter his senior year and must make a choice about returning to the field. OLTL director Gary Donatelli is one of the producers. Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 star Dylan Baker plays Travis' father, Larry, and is also directing the inspirational story, which takes its title from one of the plays called by the Redhounds' football coach. Zimmer will play as Travis' mom, Mary, but it's not yet known what Hunt's role is in the independent film.

You can follow the experiences of the cast and crew on the 23 Blast blog here.
