GH Stars React To Renewal News!

Soap fans weren't the only ones delighted by yesterday's news that GENERAL HOSPITAL has been saved from cancellation by ABC, with the network axing the poorly-performing THE REVOLUTION instead. The soap's stars were equally excited!

"I am so damn proud to be on General Hospital. Frank has worked his ass off to make this happen," praises Mauice Bernard (Sonny) exclusively to Soaps In Depth of the soap's new executive producer. "And if he can do this in three months, imagine where we'll be a year from now! I'm thrilled for the cast, crew, directors, producers, writers, everyone in production -- and grateful for the hard work they've all done to make General Hospital successful."

Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) echoed his on-screen father's sentiments. "Congrats to everyone who has worked so hard in front of and behind the camera to extend our GH life," he tells In Depth. "But especially to the fans. This is a big victory for you and because of you."

THE REVOLUTION will air its final episode on Friday, July 6. For the following nine weeks, until Katie Couric's syndicated new show debuts on Monday, September 10, ABC will be expanding the GOOD MORNING AMERICA franchise with the tentatively titled GMA IN THE AFTERNOON. Although the network hasn't locked in the times yet, multiple sources have been confirming to In Depth that Couric knows she can't bring in the ratings on her own and wants GH as her lead-in for the ABC owned stations that will be broadcasting her new talkshow.

"I can't tell you how excited I am for our GH family and our fans," Steve Burton (Jason) tells In Depth exclusively. "Congrats!! No flatline for this Hospital. Much luv."
