Interview: Engaged... And Expecting!

Not only is Jordi Vilasuso (Griffin, ALL MY CHILDREN) engaged to be married, but he and fiancée Kaitlin Riley are expecting a baby, to boot! "The cat was let out of the bag on national TV," the actor tells Soaps In Depth with a laugh. Last week, Riley's little sister, actress Bailee Madison, appeared on THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO to promote her new film, Cowgirls 'N Angels. When host Jay Leno asked how her family was, the 12-year-old excitedly shared that not only was her big sister engaged, but that she was pregnant! "We knew she was going to say we were engaged... we weren't sure she was going to say that that! The camera panned to us, and we were kind of caught off-guard. But it was very sweet."

Vilasuso says that learning on Easter morning that he was going to be a father sped up his plans to become a husband, as well. "We'd been talking about getting married for quite some time," he says. "We were already looking at places to have the wedding even before we were engaged. Katie would joke, 'I can't believe we're doing this. I don't even have a ring on my finger.' I'd been looking at rings, and had actually put a deposit down on a ring two months earlier. This kind of hurried the process along!"

Why To Watch GH!

Something wicked this way comes... to GENERAL HOSPITAL!

Maurice.jpg (176x176Preview) Oh, the wicked that wanders the streets of Port Charles and lurks in the shadows! Not wicked in the green-faced, pointed hat, wart on the nose kind of way, but of the mischievous, cheeky variety. Then again, that is one of the things that makes GENERAL HOSPITAL so watchable lately.

The real villain in PC these days isn't the living, breathing kind. It's the... the... the press. * gasp * They're like a little gnat that buzzes around your head and, no matter how much you try to swat it away, it just gets nastier. Being the owner/publisher of The Sun does put Todd in an advantage when it comes to blackmail, which, heaven knows, is the least of the crimes he's committed. But knowing that it actually works on Sonny is HUGE! The pen really is mightier than the sword. Who would have thunk?! But the fact that The Port Charles Press was going to print a story naming Sam as a rape victim? Shame!

Then there's Heather. Seeing her mix it up with the Quartermaines, they go together like Goobers and Raisonettes. She dishes it out and, when it's time for her to take it, she dishes it out again! Heather, Luke, Tracy, Monica and Anthony's propped up, Crimson-reading, sun hat and shades wearing corpse makes for comedy utopia. It doesn't get any better than that.

Amen and halleluiah for some great family bonding amongst the Davis gals. That family is closer than white on rice. Wait. Kristina, you say? Ah. Yeah. She's back and she looks mighty t'd off. That's right, she's a Corinthos AND a Cassadine so the chances of her turning out like Mother Teresa are pretty much zippo. She's got a bone to pick with mummy and dad and the only way she knows how to drive home the point is with a stake to the heart. Or a camera crew. Same thing.

With all that said, this coming week on GH should be a whopper. We've got Maxie's shocking plan to save Matt, Johnny's downward spiral of guilt and there's also a little something about a baby or two looking to be born! And don't forget, there'll be an encore performance on Memorial Day. Keep watchin'!

Interview: Vasi Rocks The SINGLE Life!

If you loved ALL MY CHILDREN's Denise Vasi (Randi) as a former prostitute-turned-Hubbard wife/model extraordinaire, wait until you see her as a blossoming socialite hitting the Atlanta dating scene when she joins the second season of VH1's scripted drama, SINGLE LADIES! She's stirring up trouble like you wouldn't believe -- and loving every minute of it! "This is the most awesome dream [gig] ever," the actress enthuses of being part of the show, which follows three Georgia women -- Vasi as Raquel, Charity Shea as April and LisaRaye as Keisha (pictured above with Vasi) -- through the ups and downs of dating. "It's just a bunch of genuinely great people who really just want to come together and make something great happen. It's been a blessing."

But when you tune into the Monday, May 28, premiere of the show's second season, don't expect much of Randi to shine through! "Raquel comes from a very well-to-do family, she's very well traveled, has spent time doing charity work, and she's gone to some of the best schools and really worked hard at making a name for herself," Vasi explains to Soaps In Depth, adding that a bombshell dropped in the first episode sends her new alter ego into a tailspin! "She starts changing her wardrobe and her hair, and she gets a tattoo! She's just expressing herself differently, and she feels that she's finally living her life."

Of course, in the midst of Raquel finding her inner wild child, there will be plenty of boys and sex in the mix, as well! "As Raquel comes out of one relationship, she decides that she's going to live life and experiment, so we'll see Raquel with quite a few different options," the actress teases. "I'm having such a blast!"

To see Vasi shine in her new role, be sure to tune into VH1 on Monday, May 28, at 9 p.m. ET. And be sure to pick up the ABC issue of Soaps In Depth on sale Monday, June 11, for more from our interview with the actress!

Reality Bites Alexis & Sonny When Kristina Returns!

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Kristina returns to town on Friday, May 25... and she's got a bone to pick with her parents! Remember that secret Alexis and Sonny were trying so desperately to keep from their daughter? You know, the one about how Sonny got Krissy into Yale? Well, it's not a secret anymore! Kristina is home for the summer and she's wise to her parents' ways. Now it's her turn to pull a shockeroo on them! "All she wants from them is the truth, and she doesn't get it," says GH newcomer Lindsey Morgan, who is taking over the role. "So she's going to pull out her ace and get her vengeance!"

And that "vengeance" she mentioned is not going to be pretty. It holds up a mirror to the craziness of her family in a way that has the potential of exploding in her face! "Kristina is the perfect blend of both of her parents," Morgan says. "She is very ethical, like her mother. She's very honest and tells how she feels about things, which I feel comes from her mother, who lays down the law. Then again, she's very much like her father because she is very stubborn and can be kind of a hot head."

Kristina's "family project" will be part humor, part drama and create a new problem for Sonny and Alexis to have to deal with. Can they handle it gracefully if they present a united front? Morgan hints, "Both her parents are very strong, and when they come together... whoa!"

NATAS Adds Younger Categories Back To Ceremony!

Earlier today, Soaps In Depth reported that the National Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences had decided to not present the awards for Outstanding Younger Actor and Actress at the Daytime Emmy Awards banquet on Saturday, June 23, and that they would instead be doled out at the Creative Arts ceremony on Sunday, June 17. The decision was universally panned, from producers to behind-the-scenes crew members and veteran daytime stars to the younger actors' own representatives left disappointed by the NATAS revelation. In Depth has learned that many actors (and not just from both the shunned Younger categories) threatened to boycott the Awards, and at least one very excited Younger nominee had already secured tickets to attend the ceremony with their family.

NATAS has yet to comment on either the initial decision to not include the Younger categories at the June 23 banquet, or the reversal. Since these young men and ladies deserve to have their shining moment just as much as those actors nominated in the Supporting and Lead, we are thrilled to learn that NATAS has changed their minds.

Interview: Hutchison Is Back In Action!

Fiona Hutchison (Gabrielle, ONE LIFE TO LIVE; Jenna, GUIDING LIGHT) has returned to the genre that made her famous! As the mystery woman on the Web series THE BAY (, she's been slinking around a hotel in a trench coat and seducing young Peter (played by Kristos Andrews) in an effort to gain information about her missing child.

"When I got the script, I thought, 'Oh God! I see where we're going with this: It's vixen time!" she laughs of the sexy scene. "But Kristos was a sweetie pie... I had to straddle him and do all the things you're not supposed to and he was fabulous to work with."

In last week's episode, however, the mystery woman pulled a gun on him! "That's really what makes it all work: a mother who is desperate for their child is prepared to do whatever it takes," Hutchison continues. It's a scenario that that she's played before. "Gabrielle would do anything too -- anything!" she recalls. "So I'm familiar with this sort of thing, and I've enjoyed it because my career has now covered more than a couple of years and it's fun to be given an opportunity to take something like this and try it again at another point in my life."

Llove Llanview In The Midwest!

It's okay if you're still crying over the loss of ONE LIFE TO LIVE -- we are, too! But it's time to wipe away those tears and start celebrating, because Kassie DePaiva (Blair), Michael Easton (John), John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex), Melissa Archer (Natalie), Hillary B. Smith (Nora), and Trevor St. John (Victor) are headed out on a multi-city tour to see you! Via the "Loving Llanview" tour that brought you January's successful event, the group hits Cincinnati, OH, on Friday, June 22, Merrillville, IN, on Saturday, June 23, and Chicago, IL, on Sunday, June 24. And they can't wait to let the fun begin all over again!

"It's a party, and you get to reminisce," says Lavoisier of the events. "The fans help the actors take a trip down memory lane; it's nice. And it's going to be refreshing to see the fans' memorabilia that they bring, the photo albums and the memories that they help [us] re-spark."

Adds Archer: "It's been nice to be able to go into other towns where there are people who maybe weren't able to travel to see us before, and maybe some who have done it and want to do it again. It gives the fans the chance to say goodbye to the people that they loved from OLTL, and it gives a chance for us to reconnect with the fans again, and with each other."

But Lavoiser warns that if the events are as popular as the sessions held in January, you'd better hurry and buy your tickets right away! "For the last event, you could go online to buy your ticket for the autograph session, and it was so in demand, people were re-selling their tickets on E-bay for a higher amount to other people. There was scalping going on!" he says with a laugh. "So anything that people want, they need to buy immediately, because most likely, all of the autograph signings are going to sell out."

For more information on the events and to buy tickets, visit But if you'd like to win a free pair of tickets to the events, Soaps In Depth is giving away a set in each city! For Chicago, enter here. For Merrillville, enter here. And for Cincinnati, enter here. Good luck!

Confession After Confession After Confession!

SonnyKate.jpg Now THAT'S a Friday episode! GENERAL HOSPITAL ended a powerful week of storytelling with several critical turns in the road!

For the first time, Sonny came face-to-face with a rather testy Connie, who made it perfectly clear her Bensonhurst upbringing did not include charm school. She looked as if she was going to get him in a headlock and bite his ear off! Not so. But she DID hit him over the head with some pretty hard-to-hear facts, like how very, very much she hated him and, oh yeah, that Johnny wasn't who went after Anthony that night, she did. Connie thinks she's smart and is scaring him away from her "host," Kate, but she doesn't know her former beau that well, does she? He's more sympathetic to Kate than ever!

On the flip side of the coin, there were the Zacchara men. Or, actually, the Zacchara MAN and the Soleito man. After overhearing Tracy and Luke plotting to whack him, a rattled Anthony high-tailed it to Johnny, saying he'd have to divorce Tracy now and move back in with his grandson. "Over my dead body," Johnny responded. Oh, Johnny, do be more careful about you wish for. An enraged Anthony pulled out a gun and aimed it at his heir, screaming, "I got half a mind to put a bullet in you right now!" One good turn deserves another, because in the heat of the moment, Johnny confessed that HE tried to kill Anthony that night. But... wait... didn't Connie just...? Ah! And THUS the cliffhanger!

Add to those "gotcha" twists, Maxie hating on the squishy-hearted Spinelli for saving her from 20 years in prison but sealing Matt's fate, Matt wrestling with the notion that he killed Lisa, and Luke and Tracy making a pact to resort to murder if they have to, Monday should be a DOOZY! Don't forget to tune in!

"We were girlfriend and boyfriend in high school and then he went off to college and she ended up marrying his best friend and staying in New Jersey," Archer explains of her role in the movie. GH's Parsons Slept Through Emmy Noms!

Imagine waking up one morning to nine voicemail messages, and texts from six different people. That is exactly what happened to Nathan Parsons (ex-Ethan, GENERAL HOSPITAL) the day that the nominations were announced for this year's Daytime Emmy Awards, even though the day before, a friend insisted to the actor that he would be on the list! "I had 9 new voicemails and about 6 text messages. 'Oh, it must have happened!'" says the actor with a laugh. "I knew it was postponed, so I wasn't exactly sure when the nominations were going to be. That morning, it was like, 'Ok, here we go!'" It was certainly a nice start to the day! "I didn't know what to do after that!"

Among those well-wishers were former co-stars Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky) and Alyshia Ochse (ex-Cassandra). "I went off the show not exactly the way I wanted to. I wanted to go out with a bang, and then I kind of snuck out with a little whimper," he says with a chuckle. "It's kind of nice, all these months later to be nominated."

And even though he'll be competing against former co-star Chad Duell (Michael) for the Outstanding Younger Actor title, Parsons doesn't mind one bit. "I was really excited for him last year, and it didn't quite work out. I hope it's between the two of us. I hope it stays in the family, so to speak."

Since exiting GH, the Aussie has been auditioning for projects left and right. "I had a great pilot season," he shares. "I screen tested for a couple of things. I'm on hold for another thing. It's been really fun, and it's been a whole variety of things. Getting to sit down and read 150 pages of a script I've never read before. That's one of the reasons I wanted to leave GH. I loved the show, and I loved everyone there. It was just the same character for 3 years, and that's not something that you're used to as an actor. When you do theater, you do a part for a couple of months, and then it's over. So it's been nice to try on all these different faces."

Keep checking back for updates, and we'll let you know when we have some good news to share about Parsons!

Would Mathison Be A DANCING All-Star?

Earlier today, ABC announced that their 2012-'13 programming slate would include an all-star edition of DANCNG WITH THE STARS, featuring fan favorites from all 14 past seasons airing this fall. Soaps In Depth can't help but wonder if Cameron Mathison (Ryan, ALL MY CHILDREN) -- who hosted a DANCING-themed special episode of 20/20 for the network last month -- would be interested in taking another spin around the floor.

"Yes I heard about it, but I haven't been asked or anything," shares Mathison, who competed in 2007. "I would definitely be up for it if they asked, but I'm not sure I was an 'all star!' I came in 5th in Season 5 which was a long time ago, but I would definitely give it another go if they came to me."

Tell us below, would you like to see Mathison -- or fellow DANCING WITH THE STARS alumni Susan Lucci (Erica), Aiden Turner (Aidan), J.R. Martinez (Brot) or GENERAL HOSPITAL's Kelly Monaco (Sam) -- compete in the All-Star season?

Meet DARK SHADOWS' Maggie In Los Angeles!

Fans of DARK SHADOWS who live in the Los Angeles area can meet one of the show's original cast members, Kathryn Leigh Scott (Maggie/Josette), live and in person at a book signing on Wednesday, May 16 at 7 p.m.

The actress/author will be signing copies of her latest tome Dark Shadows: Return To Collinwood at the Barnes & Noble bookstore at the Grove located at 189 Grove Drive Los Angeles, CA 90036. (The Grove is located next to Farmer's Market located at the cross streets of Fairfax Avenue and Third Street.) Scott posted on her website that she'll be bringing some special gifts that will be raffled off, too!

Scott, along with DARK SHADOWS cast members Jonathan Frid (Barnabas), Lara Parker (Angelique) and David Selby (Quentin), have cameos in the Tim Burton Dark Shadows feature starring Johnny Depp, which premiered on May 11.

Some critics have panned Burton's vision for being too comedic and light-hearted, but Scott says such criticisms are unwarranted.

"The entire film is [a tribute] to the original series or else Johnny Depp wouldn't be wearing his hair [the way the original Barnabas did] and Helena Bonham Carter [who plays Julia] wouldn't be wearing an orange wig," Scott says. "Our original show was a wonderful meld of romance, science fiction, fantasy, horror, and, indeed, comedy. The original DARK SHADOWS actors were aware that what we were doing was comedic, but we didn't play it that way. I hope this discourages [critics] who feel they have to take a cynical point of view. It doesn't reflect the intent of Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, any of the producers or Warner Bros."

For other upcoming book signing appearances by Scott check out the actress' Web site.

Rademacher's A Dad Again!

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Ingo Rademacher (ex-Jax) helped give his wife, Ehiku, one heck of a Mother's Day present on Sunday, May 13, when she delivered their second son, Pohaku!

"My wife @EhikuRademacher gave birth to our son Pohaku this morning at our Hawaii house," Rademacher tweeted. "Every one is doing great. Happy Mothers Day."

Pohaku joins two-year-old brother Peanut in the Rademacher Family, and interestingly, in a later tweet, the actor revealed that their boys both have the same name — Pohaku is actually Hawaiian for "peanut!"

Why You Don't Want To Miss GH!

An opaque "cloud of crazy" hung over Port Charles, raining on everybody's parade!

In one corner of GENERAL HOSPITAL's mythical town, we had Heather, who, apparently, was able to avoid a frontal lobotomy while in Ferncliff Asylum in favor of attending forgery classes. At least she put her new skill to good use by perfectly duplicating Maggie's handwriting for a fake suicide note to cover up that she poisoned her. Someone better warn Olivia to avoid eye contact with that nut case. It's sort of like that scene in Raiders Of The Lost Ark where Harrison Ford told Karen Allen, "Don't look at it!" or a supernatural beam of light would turn her to dust!

Then there's Kate, whose elevator doesn't go to the top floor, if you get the drift. After spending some time handcuffed to a hospital bed -- probably an activity her other personality, Connie, would have enjoyed under different circumstances -- she was carted off to the PCPD and charged with assaulting Ewen. By this week's end, all sorts of "unpleasantness" will hit the fan, including Sonny getting a ring side seat as Kate turns to Connie and back again before his very eyes! Which makes us wonder, technically speaking, would sleeping with her constitute a threesome?

Carly had a rollercoaster week and got a lot off her chest, like calling Johnny a rapist for having sex with a woman who was completely checked out. And what he called her back was far more shocking -- "the woman that I love." Yowza! Although she has difficulty making friends with those who have girlie parts, men, on the other hand, no problem. Todd showed up offering flowers, and there was a lot of flirtatious banter and smiling eyes. But this coming week isn't ALL about coquettish giggles and come ons. She and Tea whip out their claws and lock horns like two cobras fighting over a dead rat!

All in all, we have an exciting GH week ahead of us, including some brotherly bonding, a grandfather/grandson fight to end all fights, and Sonny getting propositioned... by Todd! Tune in!

More Emmy Reaction From The Nominees!

Soaps In Depth caught up with a few more GENERAL HOSPITAL stars to congratulate them on their Daytime Emmy nominations! Here's what they had to say!

Even though he's no longer a part of the GENERAL HOSPITAL canvas, Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky) still feels connected to his former co-stars who are fellow Daytime Emmy nominees. "I was really excited that Tony Geary (Luke) got nominated, and Becky Herbst (Elizabeth) and Nathan Parsons (ex-Ethan). I feel a part of it because I pretty much worked through the entire last year. It doesn't feel too strange being off the show and still connected in that way." For his reel, Jackson submitted the scenes where Lucky confronted Luke about Jake's death at the Haunted Star. "Basically, being locked in a room with Tony for seven scenes," he laughs. "It was pretty intense."

While Jackson learned of his nod when a friend sent him a text message, both Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and Maurice Benard (Sonny) learned of their nominations via Twitter! "I got up with the baby at 6:45, so I wasn't even paying attention [to the nominations] because she's all over the place now. Then it got to be about 8:00, and it occurred to me that the nominations came out. I wanted to see who was nominated and I went onto Twitter and saw 'Congratulations.' So thank you, my Twitter followers for telling me the good news!"

Benard says that his wife, Paula, was the first to see the news of his Lead Actor nomination, courtesy of GH headwriter Ron Carlivati. "She saw Ron say congratulations on Twitter and she said, 'I guess you got nominated, Honey,'" says Benard, who submitted the scenes where Sonny and Brenda broke up. "He's saying one thing, and meaning another. It's universal when you break up with a woman; people understand that. It's not one of those episodes where it's a lot of flashy stuff and camera work. It's straight-up talking."

Jason Thompson (Patrick) is competing against three of his GH castmates in the Supporting Actor category, which he never expected. "I was a little shocked by it," confesses the actor of his nomination. He received the news when his agent called him from Israel! "It was pretty funny. But that [conversation] was pretty short-lived because I was excited about her being in Israel and wanted to know what she was doing there!" Thompson reveals that he actually had a difficult time deciding on what to submit, before ultimately settling on Emma's birthday. "I remember doing them and I felt really connected to what Kimberly McCullough (ex-Robin) and I were doing and to Emma. It's nice to have those really pulled-in, genuine heartfelt moments about real connection."

Stars React To Emmy News!

Soaps In Depth staffers have been on the phone with Daytime Emmy Award nominees all day, offering our congratulations. Here are just a few of our interviews, so keep checking back for more updates!

GENERAL HOSPITAL walked away with a whopping 23 nominations, which doesn't surprise Anthony Geary (Luke), a Lead Actor contender. "It's fantastic to see so many nominations for GH this year! Obviously, the rumors of our demise were vastly overstated."

Laura Wright (Carly, GH), who will be defending her Lead Actress title this year, started off her morning with a special celebration, courtesy of her children. "My husband is in Texas on a business trip, which we planned for this week when they were originally supposed to be announced [last] Friday. He's so bummed. But he had the kids take two Standing Sun wine glasses, and they painted on one, "Congratulations, we love you" with hearts all over it. And they had a bottle of champagne in the fridge. So they opened the champagne this morning and brought it out. I was on the phone with my husband and my son goes "We won't need this one!" And the other glass had sad faces all over it and said "We still love you." So either way, I was getting a nice glass of champagne this morning, whether it happened or didn't happen!" Wright submitted the episode where Carly asks Jason to donate Jake's kidneys in order to save Josslyn's life. "I have to say, this means more than last year! Because I didn't want last year to have been a fluke! I was so afraid people would be like, 'Wow, and she didn't even get a nomination the next year.' It's like, ok, they really do like what I do! It was important that last year wasn't a mess-up!"

Eddie Alderson (Matthew, ONE LIFE TO LIVE) as he was getting ready for another day at high school! "Sorry I'm late!" he joked of telling his teachers. "Just your typical Wednesday morning!" The Younger Actor nominee found out via Twitter that he made the final round for his scenes where Matthew confesses to Bo and Nora that he killed Eddie Ford. "Someone tweeted me and said congrats, but I was confused what it was about. It was very early on the west coast, and I was half awake. Then more people started tweeting me, and the publicist from OLTL texted my mom. I didn't expect it, so that has made it all the more special."

It's no surprise that OLTL's Erika Slezak was nominated for her anniversary episode where Viki confronts her alters. "It's very long... I'm surprised I got a nomination and people didn't just shut it off halfway through!" she says with a laugh, confessing that the recognition is bittersweet. "But I'm delighted. If we can represent the show in one way or another, that would be good. I'm very sorry the show didn't get nominated, since there are only like six or seven shows! It's very disappointing."

ALL MY CHILDREN's Darnell Williams (Jesse) wasn't even aware that the announcements were taking place today! "I didn't know!" he confesses. "I picked up my phone and got all these congratulation messages. I called Debbi [Morgan, Angie] and sang on her cell phone voicemail [to the tune of "Happy Birthday"], 'Congratulations to you.' What a way to wrap things up!

Melissa Claire Egan (Annie, AMC), however, was up early and at her computer waiting for NATAS to release the list of nominees. "My mom is actually here visiting, so I was with her and my boyfriend having coffee. My dad was on the phone when we were scrolling and looking for my name, so he was included in the whole thing. AMC was my first contract role in anything. I learned so much from those people. It is so special to have this nomination, and a lot of it I owe to my AMC cast because I learned from them."

OLTL's Bob Woods (Bo) was cleaning up the back yard this morning when he heard his wife calling his name. "I could hear her yelling my name in the house. She didn't know where I was. I thought she'd gotten some good news about our son! He's taking finals! She came out and told me. It was totally unexpected. I'm so out of the loop now that for all I knew, maybe they'd had the awards!"
