A GH Smackdown!

In Port Charles, all's far in love and war!

Everyone on GENERAL HOSPITAL either goes crazy, goes ballistic or goes to court at one time or another. And then there are those who've done all three. Kate's one of the lucky ones who, after going crazy... and then ballistic... and then to court... went free! Yep. Thanks to Starr's heartfelt plea, Kate was cleared of charges that lead to the death of Cole and Hope. Her "sentence"? Spend some time with eye candy Ewen. Yeah, he may be a shrink but, heck, he's still a dreamboat. That's the kind of punishment that should have more women in Port Charles committing crime!

For those Liason and JaSam fan bases, you must have loved the sparring match between Liz and Sam, as the sound of billiard balls clanked together in the background at The Floating Rib. Whether you're Team Liz or Team Sam, you can walk away thinking your lady won the verbal standoff, with one side thinking, "Liz is a husband stealer who's using quote/unquote friendship with Jason to seduce him, " and the other side going, "Sam is pushing Jason away and she deserves to lose him." Sounds like a draw, don't ya think?

A smack down of a different kind was needed over at the newly refurbished Haunted Star, which may read really cool in person but, on camera, it's just a big black room with white chairs. Trey is pushing his luck, getting in the face of the town mobsters like he is. He's just one snark away from a bag over his head and a couple of broken kneecaps. What Kristina sees in him is beyond us. He has not one ounce of charm. If she wants a little romance, maybe she should shift her attention to Johnny. Did you see that spark between them?

There's lots to look forward to this week on GH. Will guilt finally make Todd explode and confess he's a baby switcher? Will Luke survive Heather's mating dance? Will Spinelli survive knowing that Heather called him a Hobbit? Will the new opening credits evolve into something that reveal GENERAL HOSPITAL is about... um... a hospital?

Stay tuned!

AMC's Willey & Irizarry Reunite!

It would be tough to imagine ALL MY CHILDREN's Jack and David cavorting around Pine Valley as best friends, but their portrayers, Walt Willey and Vincent Irizarry, are delivering the next best thing: They're joining forces in Mary Chase's popular play, Harvey! In WilleyWorld Community Productions' fourth annual summer play, Irizarry has taken on the part of Dr. Lyman Sanderson, and Willey will be dancing around the stage as -- get this -- the affable Elwood P. Dowd, who has an imaginary friend/rabbit named Harvey!

"It is a kind, gentle and very funny play," Willey says of the show, which runs Friday, July 27, Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29, at the Ottawa High School auditorium in Ottawa, IL. "Once WWCP decided on doing Harvey, Vincent as Dr. Lyman Sanderson seemed perfect. [We've] known each other since I played his probation officer on GUIDING LIGHT back in the early '80s. When he joined AMC, we always had a great time working together."

Adds Irizarry, who follows in the footsteps of Julia Barr (Brooke), Jill Larson (Opal) and Taylor Miller (Nina) as the fourth AMC staple to star in one of Willey's summer plays: "I'm very excited to have been asked by Walt to be a part of this production. I confess, I've never seen the movie, even though it's considered a classic, (it's now on the top of my 'to see' list), but once I read the play, I was truly charmed by the story and its characters. I'm so looking forward to working on it with my longtime friend and fellow actor from our Pine Valley days while spending a couple weeks this summer in Ottawa, which doesn't sound too bad either!"

Hallmark Movie To Star Two Soapers!

Soap opera fans will get to see two familiar faces in the upcoming Hallmark movie Two In! Yesterday, Greg Vaughan (ex-Lucky, GENERAL HOSPITAL) tweeted that he will be starring opposite Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) in the made-for-television drama. "Finally signed, sealed & delivered! Starring in a new Hallmark Movie starting Wednesday opposite my girl @Ali_Sweeney!! Gonna be great fun!"

Now, Soaps In Depth has uncovered some details about the film. Vaughan will star as firefighter Jeff Sinclair, while Sweeney plays single mom Jenny McLean, a 911 operator. While their voices are familiar to each other, Jeff has never met Dispatcher No. 23 -- that is, until he suffers a fractured leg and smoke inhalation on the job and Jenny comes to visit him in the hospital! When Jenny, suffering financially from a cutback in her hours, needs to rent out her spare bedroom for extra cash, and an injured Jeff realizes he can't handle the stairs in his condo and needs a more level place to convalesce, Jenny agrees to let Jeff move in with her and her two young children, Elsie and Luke. Despite their mutual attraction, Jeff and Jenny are both wary about making a commitment to each other... but not if Elsie and Luke have anything to say about it!

Is Storms On Her Way Back To GH?

Might Kirsten Storms soon be back on the GENERAL HOSPITAL set to reclaim the role of Maxie Jones? That what her mother, Karen, tells their hometown paper, The Orlando Sentinel. "She is returning to 'GH' the end of this month actually in her role of Maxie," Karen Storms said in an E-mail on Friday afternoon. "She's happy and excited to be back."

A spokesperson for ABC says that they have no comment at this time regarding Storms' return. The actress took a medical leave of absence in September, even dropping out of production on the E! reality show DIRTY SOAP. While ABC has never officially announced what Storms' illness was, it was said on DIRTY SOAP that she suffered from endometriosis.) Daytime newcomer Jen Lilley was tapped to temporarily fill in as Maxie, and has made the most out of a difficult situation in taking over a role played by a fan favorite.

"Ever since Kirsten left, we heard whisperings of her coming back," says the ladies' co-star, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli). "All we can do is hope she's in great shape to come back. Whenever that happens, we'll welcome her back with open arms."

DEVIOUS MAIDS Gets A Second Chance!

ABC passed on the Marc Cherry-produced pilot DEVIOUS MAIDS -- starring soap alumnas Susan Lucci (Erica, ALL MY CHILDREN) and Brianna Brown (ex-Lisa, GENERAL HOSPITAL) as two of the wealthy Beverly Hills employers -- but Lifetime has given the series a second chance! The series will launch on the cable network in 2013, and La Lucci couldn't be happier!

"[On Friday], I got off the plane in L.A. from New York, got in the car, checked my phone on the way to the hotel, and there was a message from my agent telling me that DEVIOUS MAIDS has been picked up by Lifetime and they plan to air starting in March," Lucci told reporters in the press room at the Daytime Emmy Awards on Saturday night. "I'm so thrilled to get to play that wonderful part that I already loved so much from the pilot, even from the table reads."

According to Deadline, Lifetime will produce the show in Atlanta, even though the pilot was filmed in Los Angeles.

Who's Ready For The Emmys?

"I'm super excited to celebrate with the cast and crew of GENERAL HOSPITAL," Laura Wright (Carly) enthuses. And the Lead Actress nominee isn't the only one. Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), who's up for the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor, can't wait to take his wife Kiera out for a fabulous night. "As glamorous as our home life is with our one year-old daughter [Juna], dressing up for an occasion like this is pretty neat."

According to one of our insiders, soap stars aren't just happy to dress up and have fun. Not only are they excited that the show will take place in L.A. this year, but it's shaping up to be a much more professional event than in years past. Something else to look forward to? Word on the street is that Anthony Geary (Luke) will be featured in the show's opener!

Another source also tells us that the four talented Outstanding Younger Actor nominees -- Chad Duell (Michael, GH), Nathan Parsons (ex-Ethan, GH), Eddie Alderson (Matthew, ONE LIFE TO LIVE) and Chandler Massey (Will, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) -- will be presenting a very important category, which more than makes up for the almost-slight they suffered earlier this month. (Their award, along with the prize for Outstanding Younger Actress, was going to be announced at the untelevised Creative Arts Emmys, but that decision was reversed.) "It should be a lot of fun," says Duell of tomorrow's ceremony. "I'm mainly excited to just be around my castmates. Hope GH does well!"

Be sure to tune in to HLN tomorrow, June 23, at 5 p.m. PST and 8 p.m. EST.

Will Benard Make It To The Emmys?

Have no fear soap fans, GENERAL HOSPITAL's Maurice Benard (Sonny) will be there, but he'll be late. Though he's nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actor category, Benard won't even be thinking of another possible win tomorrow (he previously brought home the statue in 2003), since he'll be celebrating his daughter Cailey's graduation!

"It will be a great day," Benard tells Soaps In Depth. Of course, since the family affair will be a late afternoon event, Benard and his wife, Paula, will be cutting it close to make it to the Emmys before the doors of the Beverly Hills Hilton slam shut! (The ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. PST.) "I hope they still let me in," smiles the actor. (Something tells us they'll let the nominee in as easily as they would open the doors for Sonny... without him having to make an offer they can't refuse.)

"I'm sure it is going to be a fun night," Benard adds. And while he's well aware that Anthony Geary (Luke), one of his favorite co-stars and a six-time Emmy winner, is favored to take home the prize, he's okay with that! "I am always quite happy for him," Benard offers. The actor is also very fond of his former ALL MY CHILDREN co-star, Darnell Williams (he played Jesse to Benard's Nico, and now portrays THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS' Sarge), his ONE LIFE TO LIVE pal Robert S. Woods (Bo), and THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL's John McCook (Eric), who are also up for the award. "It's a great category and I will be happy no matter who goes up on that stage!"

Willey's Gunning For Gold!

ALL MY CHILDREN's Walt Willey (Jack) knows a thing or two about the law: He played Pine Valley's most stand-up attorney for nearly a quarter of a century! And now the talented actor -- who balanced his 24 years of daytime drama with a popular comedy act -- is back on stage as another lawmaker. Only this time, he's playing the famed 1800's gunfighter/scout James Butler Hickok (aka Wild Bill) in a one-man show he wrote himself! "It's been so much fun!" the actor raves of the project that came to fruition after he passed a road sign in his home state of Illinois that indicated the well-known Western lawmaker was born there. "I find him to be the most fascinating person. And [we're both] six foot two, blond with blue eyes, both from Illinois, both having received a modicum of fame. It's just very interesting."

Inspired by the similarities, Willey spent a year researching and then a year writing the one-man show, which takes audiences on a fierce, no-holds-barred trip back to the Wild West. "It's just me and the many voices in my head," he jokes of the fun, adding that surprisingly, the Q and A session he holds after each performance tends to focus more on his piece rather than AMC. "Not that I would mind answering [AMC] questions at all, but I really take it as a compliment that people have embraced me doing this after all of those years of doing that and coming out and supporting me. It's just really great."

Willey has taken the wild western on the road, and his next stop: the Acme Comedy theater in Los Angeles, where on Saturday, June 16, and Sunday, June 17, some of his former AMC castmates could be joining the fun! You won't want to miss it, so be sure to visit for tickets and more information. But don't fret if you don't live near L.A.: Willey will continue to take the show on the road and could stop at a town near you! Follow for upcoming tour dates and information. Yee-haw!

Hillis Turns Killer!

Rib Hillis (Jake, PORT CHARLES) is a model, a reality show star, a talk show host, an actor, and a producer, but in this weekend's SyFy's creature feature, Piranhaconda, he's a killer! Together with fellow soap alums Terri Ivens (Simone, ALL MY CHILDREN) and Michael Swan (Bishop Carpenter, ONE LIFE TO LIVE; ex-Adam, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL; Duncan, AS THE WORLD TURNS), they'll fight for their lives in the Amazon jungle.

"I play another Jake!" he laughs. "He's an actor/stuntman in a low-budget movie that's being shot when some of the cast gets kidnapped and held for ransom. Coincidentally, the piranhaconda [a monstrous anaconda/piranha hybrid] wakes from its 50-year slumber and starts killing people -- everything hits the fan!"

Left behind, Hillis and Ivens will join forces in a fight to save the day. "I absolutely love Terri," Hillis confides. "We got along so well, we have kids the same age... it was magical. We are still super-close." Piranhaconda, which also features Michael Madsen and Rachel Hunter, premieres Saturday, June 16, at 9 p.m. EST on SyFy. For more from Hillis, including his upcoming nuptials to world champion ballroom dancer Elena Grinenko (DANCING WITH THE STARS), keep an eye out in Soaps In Depth for his upcoming Keeping Track feature!

GH Shocker, Plus...

Will Anna be the one to take down the Mob?

finola5.jpg You wanna talk about classic soap cliffhangers? GENERAL HOSPITAL had a doozy this past Friday that had everything but a cliff and someone hanging off it! Just as Sam was about to tear Jason a new one for inadvertently causing the death of "her baby," Heather snuck a reveal to the audience that Sam's child was not a product of being raped by Franco, but was actually Jason's! Oh happy day! Sure, we had an inkling that it was going in that direction, but just seeing the glee on that rapscallion's face and knowing that there is a teeny tiny slight chance Jason and Sam could live happily ever after was enough for us!

Is it going to take a woman to clean up the streets of Port Charles? If there's anyone who can do it, it's Anna Devane. With her power glasses propped on the edge of her nose and hands on hips in an "I'm in charge now!" stance, she told law enforcers "we are going to build a department that this city can trust." Uh huh, right. Tall order there, Commish. Although she made it clear she's not going to turn a blind's eye when it comes to Mob business, Anna did get Luke and Tracy cleared of charged regarding Anthony's disappearance. Luke was all smiley-faced. And Anna was smiley-faced that he was smiley-faced. Good thing Tracy didn't see all the smiley faces.

Between Todd not telling Tea what he ached to tell her, Mac telling Felicia what was in his heart, and Matt telling the PCPD what Maxie feared he would, add to that some very ugly fallout in JaSam-land and Anna's "realization," this coming week on GH should pack a wallop! Don't forget to tune in!

Interview: The Spencer Men

When GENERAL HOSPITAL's Anthony Geary (Luke), Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky) and Nathan Parsons (ex-Ethan) recently got together for the first time since the latter two departed several months ago, they had quite a lot to say to one another! Soaps In Depth sat down with the Daytime Emmy nominees at the family reunion for a little chat... that actually turned into quite a long conversation! In fact, they had so much to talk about, we couldn't fit it all into the magazine! Luckily for you, , we're posting the rest of our Q&A with the father/sons trio right here on! So get your fill now, and then be sure to pick up the June 11 issue of Soaps In Depth for more of our exclusive interview with the guys!

As Good As It Gets
Aside from the episodes that were submitted for Emmy consideration, were there other scenes that you all saw of each other throughout the year that weren't submitted?
Jonathan: That's an interesting question. The show I submitted had the scenes after Lucky found out that Luke hit Jake, so it was basically six or seven scenes locked in a room with Tony. They felt the strongest for a number of different reason, but it was tough because there were a lot of dynamic storylines that they gave us last year.
Nathan: The intervention story was the first thing that came to mind, of course. All my meatiest work was actually from this year, but I picked a couple shows that I thought would work. I looked at them and wasn't really happy, but when I showed them to Tony, he said, "You know, I was looking at another show and I thought you were really good in it." So I watched it, and that's the show I submitted.
Jonathan: For Tony, the intervention was obviously a great show, for many reasons. But one of the shows that stuck out to me was the scenes at the bordello. There was something so tragic and grandiose -- what Tony was doing in the episode was so incredible. It was heart-wrenching and disturbing and honest. It reminded me of Amadeus in a way. Tony was on another planet.
Tony: Every time I work with these guys, there are standout scenes. They've each surprised and amazed me with alarming consistency.

And after three rounds, each celebrity will have chosen a date for the evening! Well, on the episode airing Thursday, June 7, GENERAL HOSPITAL's Jason Cook (Matt) is going to be one of the celebrity bachelors!

"These poor girls have to come out and in 30 seconds pitch themselves to the back of a bunch of chairs," he laughs. "Either you turn around or you don't. It was good fun." Not only did Cook get a date for the evening, he also made friends with fellow celebrity bachelors Jeremy Bloom, Paulie D and Romeo. "We all got to go on a little date!"

Tune in to see which lucky girl he picks!

What's Ahead This Week On GH?

Two newborn babies, one guilt-ridden husband and a wacko with a shovel!

Thumbnail image for TracyLuke.jpg (176x176Preview) Once upon a stormy night, there was a crazy lady chauffeuring around a smiley-faced corpse, while two mothers gave birth to beautiful but gravely ill baby boys, both in need of medical care and neither likely to get it. How's that for a Friday cliffhanger?

GENERAL HOSPITAL kicked up the suspense a notch or two Friday, as it asked the questions, 1) Will Jason's need to have McBain beaten to a pulp cost the life of Sam's newborn? 2) Can Todd actually do something decent and save Tea's baby without messing it up? And 3) Will Heather put Anthony in a Hefty bag and at the curb or plant him like a begonia bulb?

Coming across Heather dressed like Paddington Bear and acting nonchalant with a dead body in a wheelbarrow maybe, possibly should have been a teensy tiny signal to Todd that trusting her with a baby was by no means a wise decision. Nah. He'll risk it. Meanwhile, Sam was left alone with her difficult-breathing baby and an amniotic fluid soaked rug in McBain's motel room while he was coughing up blood on the side of a road, courtesy of Jason. Can any of this turn out okay? Yeah, right!

Not to overlook the craziness back in Port Charles, Tracy and Luke were in quite a pickle, as circumstantial evidence pointed to them having off'd Anthony and disposed of his body. Having a son-in-law on the police force might help divert the attention off them, but there's only so much a shaggy-haired detective can do. Plus, it's summer and you know what that means. Will Luke be hitting the road for a couple of months to dodge the cops? Keep your eyes peeled on GH this week, as all these stories roll out, plus Carly gives Johnny an ultimatum, Jason asks for forgiveness, and sparks fly between Mac and Felicia!
