GH's New TJ!

The rumors that GENERAL HOSPITAL is recasting the role of TJ, currently played by Krys Meyer, would appear to be true based on a tweet by former EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS actor Tequan Richmond. He tweeted: "My new role as the new face of GENERAL HOSPITAL starts tomorrow. Until my other show MR. BOX OFFICE begins production."

What's wild is that as the rumors of the TJ recast started making the rounds, Daytime Confidential's Jamey Giddens actually wrote a "Wishful Casting" blog post about how Richmond would be perfect for the role! And now a rep for GH has confirmed that Richmond will be taking over the role. We still don't have a first airdate for the new TJ, or any idea how Richmond's role in MR. BOX OFFICE could impact his time on GH. But we'll keep you up to date as we learn things!

Will Monaco Be A DANCING All-Star?

Kelly Monaco (Sam, GENERAL HOSPITAL) was the winner of the very first season of DANCING WITH THE STARS back in 2005, and is rumored to be returning for the next season of the reality competition series, which is set to feature an "All-Star" cast of returning celebs. But with an official announcement of the cast yet to be made, there wasn't much the actress could tell us about it!

"I'm not confirming or denying," she teases, "but if I happen to do it, and I happened to have Derek [Hough as a dance partner], that would be amazing. It would be a lot of work, I have to tell you."

Competing in DANCING while working five days a week on GH was a grueling routine for Monaco the first time around, but now she knows how to approach it. "If I were to do it this time," she explains, "I would make sure I had Mondays and Tuesdays off from GH because I can't be in two places at the same time. I think that's the only way I could do it.

"If I were to do it," Monaco adds with a smile, "I'd talk to my executive producer and ask them not to have me talk so much. I don't mind showing up, but having to memorize everything at night is the problem. If they just had me shut up for a little bit, it would be okay!"

ABC is set to announce the final cast for the All-Star season of DANCING WITH THE STARS this Friday, July 27, so stay tuned!

Interview: Look Who's Cooking!

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Dr. Matt Hunter might be spending his days behind bars, but his former portrayer, Jason Cook, has been globetrotting as part of his efforts to create a meaningful, unscripted program called LifeCHANGE. Together with his partners, Arianne Zucker (Nicole, DAYS OF OUR LIVES), her brother, Todd Zucker, and Steve Fenske, he traveled to Middleburg, South Africa, recently to collaborate with Africa Rising (which was founded by two grandsons of former President Nelson Mandela) and The Thirst Project. While there, the group put two young people from America and two from South Africa through their LifeCHANGE Leadership Program. Then they took the participants to Swaziland where they had an opportunity to help improve local access to clean drinking water. "I had always done charity work before and outreach projects with my church while growing up," offers Cook, who is serving as both director and executive producer of the show. "I'm incredibly proud to be a part of this project."

Why GOOD News Could Be Bad For GH!

Ratings for the debut of ABC's summer series GOOD AFTERNOON AMERICA -- an additional hour of their long-running GOOD DAY AMERICA franchise -- were reportedly about 40 percent higher than those of the show it replaced... which is why we're sounding the battle cry and urging soap fans not to tune in to the net's new series.

"If fans want to keep GENERAL HOSPITAL on the air, they need to make sure a clear message is sent to ABC," says Soaps In Depth executive editor Richard M. Simms. "Although GAA is being talked-up as a limited-run series to bridge the gap between THE REVOLUTION's demise and the premiere of Katie Couric's new program, ABC has proven that they'll happily pull the plug on a soap if they can replace it with something that's cheaper to produce."

Last year, both ONE LIFE TO LIVE and ALL MY CHILDREN were given the axe in favor of reality offerings which got lower ratings but were also cheaper to produce. "Fans need to realize that it's never been more important to support their soaps," says Simms. "We're down to four shows. Do we really want to lose another one?" Join us in live-tweeting the East Coast airing of GH weekdays at 3 p.m. EST on @soapsindepthabc!

Herring & Friends Get Wicked!

Back in the days when soaps were pre-empted for coverage of the O.J. Simpson trial, daytime TV fans discovered that the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. Now, the Investigation Discovery channel is banking on that appetite for true crime-themed programming to continue. Recently, they brought in a host of veteran soap stars, amongst them Lynn Herring (ex-Lucy, GENERAL HOSPITAL/PORT CHARLES) to tape a series of promotional bumper segments. (A broadcasting "bumper" fills up the space between the end of a program and the start of a commercial break, or vice versa.)

"Jackie Zeman (ex-Bobbie, GH), Judi Evans (Adrienne, DAYS OF OUR LIVES), Kin Shriner (Scott, GH/PC), Matt Ashford (Jack, DAYS), and I were in one group playing wicked women and bad boys, and then we also got to see DAYS' Kristian Alfonso (Hope) and Drake Hogestyn (John)," Herring tells Soaps In Depth. "It was so much fun because we had separate parts, but we were all on the set at the same time and in makeup and chatting away. It felt like we were all back on some soap opera somewhere!"

In actuality, it's been five years since PORT CHARLES concluded and Herring hung up her exasperating-yet-sexy alter ego, and nearly three since she played trouble-maker Audrey on AS THE WORLD TURNS. "I'd forgotten how much I missed that energy of being on a set where everybody has one purpose to make a cool product," confesses the actress who's been off raising a family on her Northern California ranch. But with her sons now gone to college, might she be enticed back to daytime again? Check out her upcoming Keeping Track interview in the ABC issue of Soaps In Depth on sale Monday, July 23, to find out.

"It's a fun show," he tells Soaps In Depth of the hit summer drama, which centers around a Las Vegas showgirl who, having gotten married on a whim, leaves the big city behind to move to her new husband's tiny coastal town and now works at her mother-in-law's dance studio. "I come from theater and I was a dancer, so I have a lot of love for young people trying to dance."

Parsons first appears in the episode titled "Money For Nothing" as Godot, the hot bartender son of The Oyster Bar's owners. It doesn't take long before Boo's relationship with the hunky surfer at her new job makes the other girls jealous. But besides working with the younger castmembers, Parsons also crossed paths with series star Sutton Foster, who has a slew of Broadway musical credits to her name. "To work with Sutton, who is a Tony Award winner and incredible, was really a privilege," he shares.

For now, Parsons is scheduled to appear in the Monday, August 13, and Monday, August 20, episodes as well. "Hopefully there will be more to come!" he says.

Tune in to BUNHEADS on ABC Family on Monday, July 16, at 9 p.m. ET. But first, check out this preview clip of Parsons below!

Former GH Scribe Norma Monty Has Died

One-time GENERAL HOSPITAL headwriter Norma Monty -- sister of the soap's late, legendary executive producer Gloria Monty -- has passed away. According to her obituary from the New Jersey funeral home handling her burial services, Monty died on July 3 at the age of 86 in Reno, NV.

A New Jersey native, Monty spent over two decades as an English teacher before switching careers and moving to California where she worked as an associate producer under her sister on GH. Soon becoming headwriter of the soap, Monty went on to receive three Daytime Emmy Award nominations during her tenure. Together, the sisters created one of daytime's most legendary supercouples in a plot twist that paired good girl Laura Webber with bad boy Luke Spencer... and had them fall in love after he raped her. Among the other characters the Monty sisters created were John Stamos' Blackie Parrish and Jack Wagner's Frisco Jones.

When Soaps In Depth contacted Stamos to share his memories of the woman who created his legendary character, the actor had nothing but kind words to say. "Norma Monty created Blackie Parrish -- and in a sense created John Stamos," the actor tells In Depth exclusively. "I will always credit GH as the reason I have a career. I learned a tremendous amount from Gloria Monty, but it was Norma who hired me. As the story goes, Norma was a teacher and had a troubled kid in her class named Blackie "Clarish." She modeled my character after him. God bless Norma. And the real Blackie, where ever you are."

Upon her retirement, Monty split her time between Rumson, NJ, and Rancho Mirage, CA, and was actively involved in numerous charities and country clubs in both locations. Her sister Gloria passed away in 2006. Monty is survived by an aunt and a cousin.
