AMC's Martinez Turns Host!

JRMartinez.jpg

ALL MY CHILDREN alum J.R. Martinez (Brot) has been a soldier in the U.S. Army, a motivational speaker, an actor, an author, and a DANCING WITH THE STARS champion. And now he can add talk radio host to is resume with his new job as he takes over the Sunday evening shift from 6-8:00 pm on KFI AM 640!

"He's so inspirational and dynamic," says program director Robin Bertolucci. "He filled in for Bill Carroll during the holidays and I just had to have him join our line up! I'm thrilled he jumped at the opportunity and I'm excited to see what he will do with his own show."

Martinez began his new gig this past weekend, but you can catch his show every Sunday evening from 6-8:00 pm on KFI AM 640 if you live in the Los Angeles area, or you can visit their website to listen through iHeart Radio. Unfortunately, this is one of the reasons why the actor won't be returning to the online revival of AMC. "Complicated with my current schedule," he tweeted recently. "Maybe we'll find out who JR shot!"

Mathison Gets "Hot"

MathisonHot.jpg

It's a well-known fact that ALL MY CHILDREN's Cameron Mathison (Ryan) is "hot." But he's especially HOT IN CLEVELAND! This coming Wednesday, January 30, Mathison heads over to the TVLand hit show to play Bill, a restauranteur and potential love interest for Jane Leeves' Joy. Like all of Joy's paramours, there is something a little off about Bill -- he has the annoying habit of shortening words in nearly every sentence that comes out of his mouth. He says it's more "expedish!"

"When I read the character, I thought, 'Oh, man. This is going to be hysterical!'" Mathison smiles. "It's one of those roles that when you walk in, it's all laid out for you. With the little experience I've had with comedy. The more you kind of own it and be dead serious about the ridiculousness of it, the funnier it is. For a role like this, especially surrounded by such talent -- these people are SO funny -- the more you downplay and be serious with it, the funnier it is when it comes out. "

Being a man surrounded by all those talented women -- including Leeves, Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli and Wendie Malick -- was a tad intimidating for Mathison. "I felt like I was back in high school," he jokes. "I sort of kept quiet and just watched and listened and enjoyed them. I was a lot more quiet than I usually am. It's not that I couldn't get in a word; it's that I didn't want to! I just loved, LOVED my week there. I wanted to beg to come back, but I don't want to sound so desperate!"

Here's How You'll Watch AMC & OLTL!

amcoltllogo.jpg

Details regarding ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE's new lives online continue to trickle in. Today, Prospect Park revealed that they have reached a distribution agreement with both Hulu and the iTunes store for the soaps. Through Hulu, AMC and OLTL will reach fans connected via their computers, smart TV's, mobile phones and tablets. iTunes customers can view episodes on their iPhones, iPads or iPod Touches as well as their Mac or PC.

"I believe that both Hulu and iTunes have the vision, the reach and the technology to help us launch The Online Network in a significant way," Kwatinetz said. "We think these platforms are part of history, helping us to transform distribution. Hulu's reach, platform and advertising prowess are best in class, and iTunes provides an incredible way to buy TV shows that is second to none. Through both of these partners, we hope daytime drama fans are absolutely delighted to be able to watch their favorite programs in a broadcast-quality HD format wherever and whenever they want."

Starting this spring, viewers will be able to stream episodes of AMC and OLTL via Hulu and iTunes as the new 30-minute episodes are released each weekday. While iTunes and Hulu Plus are pay services, streaming via the Web will be free on Hulu.com. So you'll still be able to watch your favorite soaps free of charge (as long as you sit through some ads) just like on the TV! We will continue to bring you more details as they are released!

Will Cameron Mathison Rejoin AMC?

Cameron5.jpg

The list of actors who have signed on to the new ALL MY CHILDREN isn't particularly long yet, with Prospect Park still making deals, but what is the likelihood of Cameron Mathison bringing Ryan back to Pine Valley? Not good, as it turns out.

"They contacted me," he tells Soaps In Depth, "and they were great. But I'm in Toronto right now shooting a movie and I've got some stuff going on in L.A. It just wasn't possible for me to shoot AMC in Connecticut right now."

However, all hope is not lost, because the key words there are "right now." Mathison says that while his schedule is currently booked up, they're "leaving it open" as far as a future return to AMC.

Crazy Days In Port Charles!

AJTracy.jpg

Crazy is as crazy does, and there's a whole lot of crazy going on in Port Charles!

While Lucy was screaming "I'm not crazy!" Todd was claiming that he was and Maxie, well, Maxie was just asking Britt to do something crazy.

GENERAL HOSPITAL (or any other soap, for that matter) is the last place you'd expect to hear Latin being tossed around. But when the phrase "non compos mentis" spilled out of Tracy lips in reference to Lucy, it seemed like an apt description. Lucy "not being of sound mind" seemed like a sure fire way to get her booted from ELQ. Good plan. Unless A.J. got to her first, that is. When he showed up at Ferncliff hoping to get Lucy to sign her share over to him, she was pulled away. Speaking to himself out loud, A.J. voiced his concern that it was his last hope for ELQ. But then, a familiar voice behind him said, "Not necessarily." It was Heather. And you know she's got something up her sleeve!

Meanwhile, Todd's hearing wasn't going all that great. A lengthy prison sentence for switching babies seemed almost certain. But then he had a light bulb moment after hearing about Lucy's "situation." If he pled not guilty by reason of insanity, he'd avoid jail time. Diane took the ball and ran with it, claiming he had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Todd took the witness stand and had one of those "I'm going to regret what I'm about to say" looks on his face. And he quickly did. If he denied doing everything he did, then he also had to deny he had feelings for Carly. He told her he was in love with her, but then claimed he was insane.

Maxie wasn't in a courtroom or an insane asylum, but she, too, was acting a little irrationally. Sporting a rockin' hairdo and a fanny clashing hospital gown, she asked Britt to "slip" her another embryo with the nonchalance of "Can you slip me five bucks until my next paycheck?" But as it turned out, Maxie was already pregnant! Good news for Lulu and Dante, right? Um, maybe not.

Although Monday is a network pre-emption because of the presidential inauguration, Tuesday on GH should be a whopper! Don't forget: 2:00 ET and 1:00 PST/CT on ABC. Be there!

I think we weren't ready." But he also allows that "It is the best thing for both of us."

Towers Turns Southern Belle!

ConstanceTowers1600Penn.jpg

When she guest stars on NBC's 1600 PENN on Thursday, January 17, at 9:30 p.m. EST, Constance Towers will be trading in Helena's claws for a gentile accent! However, she might be just as dangerous! "I play Bunny Thoroughgood. She's very Southern (from North Carolina), and her husband is Senator Strom Thoroughgood, played by Stacy Keach)," Towers reveals. "She's someone who without knowing what she's saying, just says some terrible things!"

Alas, the gal's got a lot to deal with considering her hubby is one cranky old goat! "The episode is great -- it's called "The Old Guy's Ball," and it really is about the senator. He says outrageous things, and they keep him from getting into the senate to make his vote."

For the actress, getting a chance to do comedy was such a blast that she's eager to do more. "Bunny is called a recurring character, so hopefully she'll be back along with the senator because he's a lot of fun too," Towers offers. For more from this beloved performer, check out her Keeping Track feature in the current issue of Soaps In Depth.

Hurricane Connie Strikes Again!

SonnyConnieGroup.jpg

Life, death, addiction and, yes, sex on GENERAL HOSPITAL!

That Connie Falconeri is trouble with a capital "T." She first throws Kristina into a tizzy because she has yet to pull Trey's life support plug. As if that's an easy decision for Connie to make. You know, paper or plastic, Coke or Pepsi, death or vegetative state for the son I never got to know. Anyway, Kristina and her tizzy aside, Connie is the devil in a green silk blouse. She drowns her sorrows in vodka at the Floating Rib and, although she knows A.J. is a recovering alcoholic, she not only tries to get him to fall "off the wagon," she tries to push him off it! And then she plants a kiss on him just to irk an arriving Sonny. Bad, bad girl.

Todd has a blonde moment while locked up behind bars at the PCPD. He somehow forgets that McBain is a guy who really does NOT care for him, and hasn't for a whole bunch of years. He actually offers the cop (yes, Todd, John is a cop) a hefty million-dollar paycheck and a way out of his mess with Natalie and Liam if he gets Todd out of the charges against him. That's a lot of words that when all put together mean "a bribe." John, being a smart guy, has a smart phone -- with recording capabilities -- and gets it all on tape. Todd, when you're already in a hole, it's wise to stop digging.

It seems that the only person smiling these days is Britt. That's because she and Patrick finally did the nasty. In the shower in GH's locker room. So, basically, Britt was being a dirty girl and a clean girl at the same time. Then, in the most humiliating, embarrassing, AWKWARD moment, Sabrina saw them in the act! Britt would do a happy dance if she knew that little tidbit.

There's plenty of exciting stuff in store this week, when Monica learns there is a new tenant in "Hotel Quartermaine," Carly resorts to revenge and Lulu has a very good reason to be worried about Luke. Don't forget: 2:00 ET and 1:00 PST/CT on ABC. Be there!

GH's Jagger Is In DANGER!

SabatoDiving.jpg

Antonio Sabáto, Jr. is among the celebrities appearing tonight on Fox's STARS IN DANGER: THE HIGH DIVE, which airs from 8 to 10 p.m. ET. The former GENERAL HOSPITAL hunk tests his mettle on the diving board as he competes against other celebrities including Alexandra Paul (BAYWATCH) and Kim and Kyle Richards (THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF BEVERLY HILLS) to find out who's the best diver!

"It's very exciting, very dangerous and very scary," Sabáto Jr. tells Soaps In Depth. "I've never done anything like this, but diving is something I've always watched. Also, I like doing anything that involves competition!"

If you want to see Sabáto Jr. you have to tune in tonight! This is an event program - not an on-going series, which is just as well since the actor says plenty of injuries came with the gig! "We had concussions and black eyes. I was bruised on my legs for days. I hit my face so many times."

Not the face, Antonio! Not the face!

"Oh, yeah, my face," the former Calvin Klein model confirms. "You'll see it in the show."

The actor's currently working on the second season of the Web series LITTLE WOMEN, BIG CARS. "We got six million viewers and it was a huge hit," shares Sabato Jr., who ironically plays a character named "A.J." "It's DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES on the 'net," he says.

Lindstrom Returns To GH!

Thumbnail image for Lindstrom2.jpg

With all the whackos in Port Charles, what GENERAL HOSPITAL really needs is a good shrink... and that's exactly what they're getting! On Wednesday, January 30, Jon Lindstrom returns to the canvas after a nine-year absence as Dr. Kevin Collins, who also happens to be Lucy's main squeeze.

"The last we knew, it was implied at Lila's memorial that Lucy had reconciled with Kevin, and that they were together," says headwriter, Ron Carlivati. "And we did see a picture of him on her desk at CoeCoe Cosmetics. So the big question is, where is he and why hasn't she mentioned him? Lucy gets herself into a pretty major jam during February sweeps and, when that happens, she receives a surprise visitor. That is Kevin. When he arrives, you'll find out why you haven't seen him yet, why she hasn't mentioned him and what is the status of their relationship."

At present, ABC is remaining hush hush about the length of Lindstrom's stay. However, look for all the details and an exclusive interview with him in an upcoming issue of ABC Soaps In Depth!

Francis Is Back As Laura!

GenieFrancis.jpg

There is no better way to usher in GENERAL HOSPITAL's 50th anniversary than with the return of one of soap opera's best-loved characters, Laura Spencer. That's right, Genie Francis is returning on Monday, February 11!

The daytime vet tweeted to GH's executive producer Frank Valentini shortly after the news broke: "Looking forward to working with you!"

There are no details as of yet about how she'll be worked into storyline. However, if you recall, when she was last seen, she had boarded a plane to France, unaware that Scotty sneaked on and was sitting behind her. Because of that, it's speculated that with Francis' return will also come the return of Kin Shriner as Scotty.

Ellsworth Has Something To Sing About!

kikoellsworth.jpg

Next month, Kiko Ellsworth (ex-Stan, GENERAL HOSPITAL, Jamal, PORT CHARLES) is releasing The Great Awakening, his very first music CD, on iTunes. We knew that Ellsworth is an actor and self-defense instructor, but we didn't know that he could sing. As it turns out, neither did he! Stranger yet, he discovered it while doing yoga! "In that class, you really work on breathing, meditation, and chanting... with all those things happening, my voice changed and started coming correctly from my diaphragm instead of my throat," he explains. "We chanted some songs, and it was such an amazing, healing experience."

Having previously learned to rap for his role in the movie I Am, Ellsworth felt compelled to write and record something inspirational. "I'm rapping, singing, chanting... it's all mixed together in a very hip, edgy, but also spiritual way," he previews. What the performer wants fans to know is that he's using the CD to raise funds for Safe Passage and Operation Skid Row, charities that raise awareness for domestic violence and homelessness, respectively. For more about the music project or to donate to the cause, check out Ellsworth's intriguing video.

UPDATE: The launch party for Ellsworth's album will be held at Rain Nighclub in Studio City, CA on Friday, February 1, at 8:00 pm PST. There is a suggested donation of $20. For tickets and more information, click here!

Steve Burton Joins Y&R!

Burtoncrop.jpg

All the speculation and rumors regarding Steve Burton (ex-Jason, GENERAL HOSPITAL) have turned out to be true — the popular daytime star will be joining the cast of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS! Burton will be going from playing a hitman to an Army vet as he assumes the role of Dylan McAvoy, Avery's ex. Burton left GH to move his family to Nashville, TN, but was persuaded to rejoin the daytime industry. "There were a few reasons," Burton said on CBS daytime chat show THE TALK. "One of the reasons is Jill [Farren] Phelps."

The former GH executive producer is now running the show over at Y&R, and Burton was able to arrange a deal with the soap where he can still live in Tennessee with his family and commute back and forth to Y&R's Hollywood studio. "I'm just so grateful for the opportunity to have the best of both worlds for me and my family," he said.

Burton reports to work at Y&R tomorrow, and you can look for architect and war vet Dylan to arrive in Genoa City on Tuesday, January 29.

Prospect Park Declares AMC & OLTL Are Returning

amcoltllogo.jpg

The rumors have been swirling all around regarding the returns of ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE, with actors saying they've been approached (like AMC's Alicia Minshew (Kendall)) or have actually signed on (AMC's Vincent Irizarry (David) and Debbi Morgan (Angie)). And while the soaps aren't actually back into production yet, and there's still no official cast list or first airdate for new episodes, Prospect Park founders Jeff Kwatinetz and Rich Frank have released a statement confirming their return.

AMC and OLTL are set to be the anchor programs of the fledgling The Online Network, and production company Prospect Park has signed deals with both the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists as well as the Director's Guild of America. OLTL director Jennifer Pepperman has been signed as executive producer of OLTL and AMC producer Ginger Smith as executive producer of AMC. And as a bonus, Agnes Nixon has signed on in a consulting role to be actively involved in continuing the serials she created.

Currently, Prospect Park says that they have arranged financing to start production of AMC and OLTL in February, but no first airdate has yet been announced. As soon as we get more details as far as casting for both shows and airdates, we'll keep you updated. You can read the full statement from Prospect Park after the jump.
