Daytime Emmy Pre-Noms Announced!

While the actual nominees won't be revealed until May 1, the National Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences has announced the Drama Performer categories for the 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

Peer judges viewed clips of each entrant, then selected their top ten performer choices in each category, the results of which were then tabulated by an independent accounting firm. (There are 11 ladies in the Lead Actress category due to a tie.) Those who received the highest number of votes now advance to the Blue Ribbon screening round, which will determine both the nominees and the winners. This year, the Younger Actor and Younger Actress categories, for performers under the age of 25, only had 9 submissions each, so there was no pre-nomination round necessary.

In alphabetical order, here are the pre-nominated performers:

Sharon Case (Sharon, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS)
Jeanne Cooper (Katherine, Y&R)
Susan Flannery (ex-Stephanie, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL)
Finola Hughes (Anna, GENERAL HOSPITAL)
Peggy McCay (Caroline, DAYS OF OUR LIVES)
Kelly Monaco (Sam, GH)
Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki, Y&R)
Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R)
Kelly Sullivan (Kate, GH)
Heather Tom (Katie, B&B)
Laura Wright (Carly, GH)

GH's Jax Laces Up His DANCING Shoes!

If you thought DANCING WITH THE STARS wouldn't invite another GENERAL HOSPITAL star to join the show's cast so soon after Kelly Monaco (Sam) appeared on the reality dance competition series, you'd be wrong! Ingo Rademacher (Jax) was announced today as a competitor in the show's 16th season, set to debut on Monday, March 18 at 8:00 pm EST. Technically, though, the actor, who appeared on GH in last year's contagion storyline, is no longer a regular cast member.

"There's nothing coming up right now," Rademacher tells Soaps In Depth when asked if Jax would be making any appearances in Port Charles in the near future. "But if the fans want to bug [executive producer] Frank Valentini, his Twitter handle is @valentinifrank. You can bombard him!"

Rademacher adds that he wouldn't let the strenuous DWTS schedule stop him from doing double-duty. "I'm always up for coming back to GH," he says with a smile. For now, though, he and pro partner Kym Johnson, a two-time DWTS mirror ball champion, are off to Hawaii to practice and perfect their first dance. "Then, my family will come back to LA," Rademacher adds.

Another TOP MODEL Cast As AMC's Cassie

Now that ALL MY CHILDREN has begun filming, there has been a blitz of casting information leaking out of the set. AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL winner Saleisha "Sal" Stowers has been cast as Angie's adopted daughter Cassandra. The actress/model retweeted her talent agency's post congratulating her on booking the role, adding "Thank you. So excited!" At the time, there was no confirmation from either the actress or her agency as to which role she'd be playing, but Stowers has since tweeted that she'd be playing Cassandra.

Interestingly, the grown-up Cassie was first played back in 2008 by Yaya DaCosta, who was also an alum of Tyra Banks' reality series!

Update: Meet Miranda!

Although initial speculation that Jordan Lane Price had been cast in the role of Miranda Montgomery -- even Eden Reigel (Bianca) claimed her as her "daughter" on Twitter -- Jill Larson (Opal) tweeted this afternoon that actress Denyse Tontz has been cast in the role. The actress/singer began her career as a child model for Mattel and Target before moving on to roles in teencoms like BIG TIME RUSH, PAIR OF KINGS, DOG WITH A BLOG and SHAKE IT UP.

There's been no official confirmation from The Online Network regarding Tontz' casting as Miranda, or which of the Pine Valley teens Price will be playing. However, Tontz did tweet "Well! Looks like news gets out quick...! I am happy to announce that I will be joining the cast of "All My Children" as Miranda Montgomery!!"

AMC Casts New JR And AJ!

More news from the brand-new set of ALL MY CHILDREN! When the show picks up -- from what our sources are sharing, it will be five years after JR fired that gun -- the character will now be played by Ryan Bittle according to Soap Opera Network. The actor played Todd on SWEET VALLEY HIGH as a teen, Jeff on 7TH HEAVEN and Eric on DAWSON'S CREEK. Last year, he appeared on THE NEW NORMAL and THE CLOSER, as well as starring in the Hallmark Channel movie Operation Cupcake. And how about this for a strange coincidence: In 2010, Bittle appeared on AMC as Logan, Madison's date... and when the casting call originally went out for the character of JR, it was under the name Logan!

And remember how we told you that the revamped soap would have a focus on a new crop of teenagers? Look for Eric Nelsen to be in the center of it all as JR and Babe's son, AJ. Jill Larson (Opal) shared the news of his casting on her Facebook page! One of the first television roles for Nelsen, who will be working with Liam Neeson in the upcoming movie A Walk Among The Tombstones later this year, was as Kevin Marler on GUIDING LIGHT back in 2006. Late last year, the actor shared the stage opposite Gretchen Mol in the Off-Broadway production of The Good Mother, and he'd previously starred on Broadway in the teen-centric 13 The Musical.

The Online Network has yet to confirm the casting of either actor.

Lucci Is "Working Hard" To Make AMC Return A Reality!

Don't count Susan Lucci (Erica) out of the ALL MY CHILDREN reboot just yet! During a visit to THE VIEW this morning, the Emmy winner gave an update on where things stand with her return to the soap, which resumed production this morning for The Online Network.

"I so hope that I can return," she confessed. "I want with all my heart to return to ALL MY CHILDREN. I just don't know the answer yet but what I do know is that all of us all of us are working so hard to make that happen. I really want to. My heart is certainly with [creator] Agnes Nixon and it's going to be wonderful. I want you all to watch because it's going to be great."

While sources connected to the AMC relaunch had shared with Soaps In Depth that Lucci would be appearing in one episode via a telephone call, we have since learned that due to Lucci's current schedule, the conversation will now be a one-sided one with only the person with whom Erica is speaking being seen. Lucci is currently filming Lifetime's DEVIOUS MAIDS in Atlanta, and will soon begin production as hostess for the second season of Investigation Discovery's DEADLY AFFAIRS.

Update: New Petey And Miranda On AMC! And More Vets Back!

ALL MY CHILDREN has gone back into production today, taping episodes, even though Prospect Park has yet to release a final cast list, wanting to keep some surprises under its hat. But it would seem that Robert Scott Wilson, who won the contest to be the first male model on THE PRICE IS RIGHT, has been cast as Pete Cortland. Jill Larson (Opal) recently tweeted "Are you following my 'son' 'Petey?" @MrRobertScott #AMC." The role of Pete was last played by Daniel Kennedy, who left in 2009.

And with Eden Riegel reprising the role of Bianca, it's only natural that her daughter, Miranda, would be coming back with her. The SORASed teen will be played by Jordan Lane Price, as revealed when Riegel tweeted "Thank you all for the outpouring of support today. I am thrilled to be returning as Bianca! So I guess I better follow my... ahem... daughter: @JordanLanePrice." And while Riegel's stint on the new online AMC is set to be a brief one, Miranda will be sticking around to head up the new teen scene in Pine Valley.

But it's not all newbies, as vets also continue to announce returns to the AMC set. Jill Larson posted on her Facebook page that Jennifer Bassey will be back as Marion, and sources share with Soaps In Depth that original cast member Ray MacDonnell will return as Joe! Prospect Park has confirmed Wilson's casting, but not the others at this time.

Mathison's The Man With The Mic

There are lots of options for where to get your Oscar coverage this Sunday, but ALL MY CHILDREN'S Cameron Mathison (Ryan) just might have the most unique perspective. He's co-hosing the Emmy Award-winning Oscar second screen experience, BACKSTAGE PASS, on and the official Oscars app. "I believe this is the only opportunity to see things backstage, as it's happening!" Mathison enthuses. Clad in his favorite Gucci tuxedo, he'll be taking viewers along for those breathless first moments with the award winners. "You can see them crossing off the stage, going in to the cameras where they thank the people they forgot to thank, taking photos with their Oscars, being interviewed by the press... you get all of that!" Mathison reveals. "I think it's a very unique opportunity, and a fun way to spend the evening." Add in the fact that he'll be trading quips and behind-the-scenes observations with funny lady Sherri Shepherd (THE VIEW), and it's sure to be an extra good time. BACKSTAGE PASS will be available for the first time on Android, including Samsung's Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Note 10.1, and Galaxy SIII.

What Is The Ice Princess?

When GENERAL HOSPITAL executive producer Frank Valentini and headwriter Ron Carlivati said there were some surprise returns as the show approached its 50th birthday on April 1, they weren't kidding! They orchestrated the comeback of all comebacks -- the Ice Princess! For those unfamiliar with the chunky knick-knack, here's a little history lesson:

The Ice Princess was to the Cassadines what the One Ring was to Sauron in The Lord Of The Rings -- an artifact that would bring them ultimate power! It began in 1981, when Edward Quartermaine's niece, Alexandria, obtained the Ice Princess, the world's largest uncut diamond, which she had mounted on a pedestal and shipped from Rio to Port Charles. When it reached the docks, Alex realized it had been stolen. She and Edward hired Luke to find the assumed thieves, the Cassadines, and regain possession of the statuette.

Luke, Laura and WSB agent Robert Scorpio (his introduction onto the canvas) wound up on the Cassadine's private island, where they learned that Mikkos Cassadine (Helena's husband) was planning on using the Ice Princess to hold the world for ransom. His master scheme was to create a new ice age, and Port Charles would be the first to feel the chill! Luke figured out how to turn off Mikkos' weather machine and, in the process, the Cassadine patriarch was killed.

Mourning the death of her husband, Helena placed a curse on Luke and Laura during their lavish wedding... and the three-decade vendetta between the Spencers and the Cassadines began.

SKate "Connect" And Caleb Confronts Sam!

If the Haunted Star party wasn't your final destination, Valentine's Day pretty much sucked for the romantics of Port Charles. Carly spent it with her three-year-old daughter, Anna and Diane fighting and defending crime respectively, Molly getting broken up with and Sam retreating from a serial killer who thought he was a vampire. Point taken, yes?

After a tete-e-tete with Diane about her options for avoiding prison (or the Funny Farm), Connie connected with Sonny. And by "connected" we mean "smiling eyes locked on each other while giggling about the past." Yes, Connie giggled. Flirting, you ask? Uh huh. The thing is, she recalled things like baking him god-awful cookies when they were teenagers. Wait, when they were teenagers? If Connie is the alter, how could she remember that? Gasp! Here's a theory for ya -- maybe those extreme personalities (sophisticated Kate and cranky Connie) are both alters while that personality in between is the host. Just a theory, folks. Just a theory.

Todd, meanwhile, spent Valentine's Day in handcuffs. No, not in a kinky way. Under arrest for trying to kidnap Sam's baby, Danny. In reality, it was Caleb that was trying to steal Danny and it was Todd who came to the rescue, unaware that he wasn't standing up to his Llanview foe, but rather a guy who randomly likes to kill people. In other words, a guy that Todd could have a beer with. But really, this one time that Todd actually did the right thing he STILL got busted... and little Danny (along with mama Sam) are in more danger than ever. It didn't help one iota when Sam looked at Caleb and said, "I know who you really are... CALEB!" That's probably not going to end well.

Then there was Kristina. Nothing says hearts, flowers and cupid shooting little arrows into the love challenged like spending Valentine's Day in a federal prison. Lucky for her that on her first day doing community service she miraculously got tossed into a room with Johnny Z, who was on "day two of 7,304" of his sentence. That's 20 years and, thanks, by the way, Johnny, for that quickie math lesson. Forget organized crime. He's got a future in accounting.

So, this week, GENERAL HOSPITAL is a smorgasbord of goodies. Kate emerges, A.J. tries to make Tracy an offer he hopes she can't refuse, someone breaks out of jail and Lulu receives a gift that has a rather ominous message behind it. Don't forget: 2:00 ET and 1:00 PST/CT on ABC. Be there!

Will Todd, McBain and Starr Miss The Nurses Ball?

News that Roger Howarth (Todd), Michael Easton (McBain) and Kristen Alderson (Starr) will be leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL to return to ONE LIFE TO LIVE when it launches on the Internet threw fans into a tizzy. Vague statements from both ABC and Prospect Park would seem to indicate that they would both be willing to share the characters, leaving them free to move freely between the soaps, but we've also heard reports that actors will only be on OLTL for four weeks.

Soaps In Depth has heard from a source that when Howarth left the GH set, he himself seemed unsure exactly how long he would be gone for. Although, unlike Easton and Alderson, who moved their families to Los Angeles, Howarth is still based on the East Coast, so popping back to the new OLTL studio in Connecticut wouldn't be as difficult.

Also, this could actually be a very good time for all of this crossover to be going down, because we also hear that most of what is being shot for GH in the coming weeks will be focused on the past characters like Scotty and Laura who have returned as well as the Nurses Ball. So while it's a shame that Starr, McBain and Todd will miss out on the first Nurses Ball in years, it shouldn't be too difficult for the show to write around their absence.

Knight Says "Not Right Now" To AMC

ALL MY CHILDREN viewers had to get used to seeing Tad without Dixie during the many years that Cady McClain wasn't on the show. Alas, now they'll have to get used to watching Dixie sans Tad since Michael E. Knight tells Soaps In Depth that he initially won't be part of the show's re-launch, set to debut online next spring.

"I'm not saying 'no,' I'm just saying 'not right now,'" Knight says about his decision not to sign up with AMC again. The irony that viewers will now be seeing Dixie's life continue without Tad isn't lost on the actor. "But I think it'll be good for Dixie. She was under-utilized that last time before they killed her off. Cady's such a wonderful actress who cares about her work. She understands the show and what it takes to do it. It'll be great to give Dixie some time to live in Pine Valley for a while away from Tad. Then, when we start working together we'll have some time to deal with it. I'll be very interested to see what happens — and I'll be watching!"

Lucci And Canary Back To AMC!

Great news! Soaps In Depth has heard from multiple performers connected to the re-launch of ALL MY CHILDREN that Emmy-winners Susan Lucci (Erica) and David Canary (Adam/Stuart) will be part of the soap's new version set to debut online later this spring. As of now, Lucci, alas, will appear in just one episode while Canary will be seen on an ongoing basis.

Storylines are being kept under wraps, but In Depth also hears that AMC will have a heavy emphasis on a group of high school characters and that the series will be set five years from the moment JR readied to start shooting beloved Pine Valley citizens in the broadcast finale. Speaking of JR, In Depth also hears that the re-launched AMC will be start off with Adam and Dixie's son waking up from a coma...

Prospect Park declined to comment on any new casting at this time.

McBain's Lookalike Kills Again!

Bloodsuckers, funny farm escapees... and condiments for crackers... all this week on GH!

Vampire, mass murderer, the "undead," whatever you want to call him, doesn't that Caleb guy give you the creeps? It's crazy what a few hair extensions and a gaudy gold ring can do to send chills down your spine. When he shoved that silver arrow into Officer Carlson's gut and then licked his blood off it with a yummy look in his eyes like a five-year old licking the chocolate frosting off a spoon... eww... McBain has to clear his name, but that's going to be hard sell, considering he shares the face and the very distinctive voice with this uber-bad guy. And if Rafe and Sam are what Caleb wants, how far will he go to get them? Come on, now. You know the answer. Nonchalantly killing people doesn't seem to be a problem for him. At all.

Sonny is making a killing in another way. He's getting to Connie, all right. And she's getting to him. Her show of sympathy for Tracy and his show of acknowledgment of that sympathy had them gazing into each other's eyes for a few frozen moments. His offer to walk her to her car after the exchange aroused a unenthusiastic "eh" from her, but the ever-so slight grin that followed spoke volumes.

Lucy, Heather and Todd might have flown the Ferncliff coop, but apparently only Heather is bright enough to not get caught. Lucy ended up handcuffed to a jail cell bar, and Luke and Carly discovered Todd. Luke promised his silence if, and only if, Carly told him what she knew about the "other" Quartermaine heir. She told him of the daughter Franco mentioned named Lauren. Will this missing missy be the secret to Tracy regaining power of ELQ... or will the secret to her (or A.J.'s) success be Pickle-Lila relish?

So many goodies coming up on GH this week, including the return of none other than Genie Francis as Laura! The Oh, she has one doozy of a surprise to pull on the folks back in Port Charles! Don't forget: 2:00 ET and 1:00 PST/CT on ABC. Be there!

McClain Confirms AMC Return

Cady McClain has confirmed in a post on her Web site what Soaps In Depth told you earlier this week: she will be rejoining ALL MY CHILDREN as part of Prospect Park's reboot of the series.

She writes: "Since word got out that AMC/PP contacted me, I thought it was best to wait a bit until I confirmed it out of respect for the fact I am still sorting out the details of the situation. However, I feel confident in telling you that I will be a part of the AMC Internet Re-boot. I am very excited about the possibilities for the show in this medium and want to help give it every chance at success.

"As you probably know by now, I am fascinated with all the many possibilities for creative expression that the Internet has to offer. I have a feeling the show will find many new opportunities for connecting with fans and I look forward to being a part of that as well. "I am also thrilled that Ginger Smith, who has worked on AMC for as long as I can remember, is finally getting the chance to helm the show. There are few people that know and love AMC as much as Ginger. I know for a fact she is doing everything in her power to make the show as wonderful for the long time fans as she possibly can. "Thank you all so much for your well wishes and support."

What's The Deal With Caleb?

As GENERAL HOSPITAL fans debate whether or not vampires have actually returned to Port Charles, we thought it might be helpful to fill folks on the backstory of Caleb Morley, whom Lucy Coe calls the king of the vampires!

On the GH spinoff PORT CHARLES, Lucy discovered she was a vampire slayer. Her nemesis? Caleb (played by Michael Easton), who caused all kinds of vampric trouble for the locals... including Dr. Eve Thornhart and her baby boy, who just happened to have the same name as does Sam McCall's son, Daniel! Did we mention that Sam, as you may have gathered, happens to look exactly like Caleb's true love, Livvie Locke?

As PC came to an end, the final of its telenovela-like arcs was called "The Gift." In it, we learned that Caleb's ring had the power to grant wishes. Livvie, knowing both that Caleb wanted nothing more than to have a child and that as a vampire he could never have one, wished for him to have one great night of passion that would result in a child. Shortly thereafter, Livvie got her wish... but not in the way she'd imagined! Instead of sharing that night of passion with -- and impregnating -- her, Caleb wound up bedding good-girl Alison Barrington!

In the final episode, shortly after taking Livvie as his bride, Caleb revealed to her that Alison -- who at that moment was marrying Lucy's cousin, Rafe Kovich -- was pregnant with his child!

Now, it appears that Caleb has returned to Port Charles to kill Alison and reclaim his son, Rafe. For the shocking truth about this story -- and details about its stunning climax -- pick up the next ABC issue of Soaps In Depth, on sale Monday, February 18!

Sean Kanan Is On The Radio!

If you'd like to know what Sean Kanan (A.J., GENERAL HOSPITAL; ex-Deacon, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL/THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) is like off the set, you need go no further than where you'll be able to tune into the actor's new Internet radio show!

Kanan and his wife, Michele, will be co-hosting Kanan's Rules on the UBN Radio Network, discussing careers, romance, politics, current events and more with each other and with special guests. Almost no topic will be off-limits!

"Five years ago, I was a bachelor who lived alone in the Hollywood Hills," Kanan says. "I came and went and didn't answer to anyone. Now I am living with a wife, five kids and two dogs. That alone provides enough topics to last the next ten years!"

"We make a great team," Michele adds. "Living with Sean is like a carnival ride sometimes because I never know where we're gonna be or how we will get stuff done. But amid all of our shenanigans, we manage to excel at our careers and more importantly, at being a family."

Kanan's Rules will air live on Wednesdays from 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm PST at starting this Wednesday, February 6. Past episodes will be archived at iTunes, Stitcher and TuneIn, so you don't have to worry about missing a show!

AMC And OLTL To Resume Taping Soon?

While there has been no official word from Prospect Park as to when the new online versions of ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE are set to either begin taping or begin airing, a couple of the actors have leaked some info on Twitter.

"March 11, 2013 OLTL returns to life!" tweeted Robin Strasser (Dorian). "Just learned that's when we start taping."

And it would seem that AMC could be first out of the gate. "Almost three more weeks and we'll be back to taping new episodes of AMC on the 25th of this month!" tweeted Debbi Morgan (Angie). "So excited!"

Of course, with no official word from the production company, it's probably best to take these dates with a grain of salt. Especially since we haven't seen a final cast list for either soap yet! Still, it's encouraging to see things continue moving forward!
