The DePaivas Are Heating Things up!

Kassie DePaiva (Blair) made magic with her husband, James DePaiva (Max) on ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Now, the duo is set to do it again in a TheatreZone production of 110 in The Shade. "It's a musical version of [the 1954] play, The Rainmaker," she offers of the Florida production that's based on N. Richard Nash's book and features lyrics by the great Tom Jones. "Musicals have always been Jimmy's passion and he wanted to do this one... when I got the score and the script, I was like 'holy cow, no wonder he volunteered me. I'm the lead!'"

Too Hot To Handle!
In the tale, a spinster living in a drought-stricken area of the Southwest finds herself caught up with a charismatic con man who claims that he can make it rain. "I jokingly say that Jimmy and I are a little long in tooth to play these roles, so everybody has to sit 30 rows back!" DePaiva laughs. "But it'll be fine; you just have to suspend belief. People do that every day when watching daytime!"

When It Rains, It Pours!
While the actress has recorded several albums and regularly performs live with The Divas Of Daytime, doing musical theater is a whole new challenge. "I'm totally out of my comfort zone," she admits, adding that she's also been worried about how to juggle play rehearsals with production on the soon-to-be launched Prospect Park version of OLTL. "My plate is getting full again, and this musical is landing smack dab in the middle of it. And this is not a side dish: it's the full entrée, so I'm both excited and nervous!

As luck would have it, the timing worked out. "We start back at OLTL on Monday, March 11," DePaiva reveals. "And then I think we'll be working five weeks, which falls right before I head down to Florida." 110 In The Shade will be presented at the intimate G&L Theatre on the campus of The Community School of Naples on May 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, and 12.
