See Jack Run

Didn't get enough of Jack Wagner after his recent quick stint as Frisco on GENERAL HOSPITAL? This Sunday, June 2, at 8:00 pm EST, you'll have a chance to see him in something totally different — a sitcom! He's guest-starring on Nick at Nite's SEE DAD RUN, starring Scott Baio. "I'm playing a pretty famous golf pro, who has won many prestigious tournaments," Wagner says. "I have a daughter who is friendly with Scott Baio's son. And Scott's character is real star-struck with me. It's that whole thing with men when they're around golf pros. They lose perspective of who they are. That's sort of what happens with Scott. It's pretty funny stuff."

Although "funny" isn't something that you'd normally associate with Wagner, it is without a doubt a genre he is attracted to. "I love comedy," he says. "I did as much as I could possibly squeeze in through the years on GH, MELROSE PLACE and THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL. But those aren't really comedy-driven unless they specifically want something to be tongue-in-cheek. I was always trying to add as much as I could. So to be doing some comedy in sitcom format, that's a lot of fun."

And while you wait for Sunday, enjoy this clip of Wagner on the show!

Mystery Man's "Surprise!" Party!

There may be a skeleton or two in Samantha Morgan's closet, but there is also a very much alive guy with bleached blond hair and a deadpan look. GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers want to know, what in the world is he up to? Come to think of it, who the heck is he?!

A soap opera isn't a soap opera unless there's at least one arcane stranger lurking in the shadows with a lock picking kit. On GH, this person who shall not be named is referred to only as "mystery man." He slips in and out of Sam's apartment with the dexterity of a cockroach, leaving only a hint of his presence. She feels it in her bones that something is amiss, and she's right. Is it a ghost for her past? A message from the grave, maybe? Was that photo text of Jason that she, Liz, Michael, Carly, Sonny, Spinelli and A.J got a clue to his identity? Could it be...? Nah. You can bet they'll all be at the Haunted Star to find out as the sender requested!

Are all the walls about to come tumbling down on A.J.? Nik is itchin' to tell Liz that A.J did the mattress mambo with Carly, and Tracy is all but positive that Ava will come through with getting Kiki (aka the "missing Q heir") to vote her in and A.J out of ELQ's top spot. Then again, Ava looked at him like he was a banana split with double chocolate sauce. Maybe Tracy shouldn't be so confident!

There's lots to be excited about this approaching week. Luke and Tracy have a heart-to-heart about their "friendship," Lulu has a flashback that rocks her to the core, and party guests are stunned with a capital "s" when they learn who their host is. A repeat showing of the 50th anniversary show airs on Monday, but the rest of the week, don't forget, 2:00 ET and 1:00 PST/CT on ABC. Be there!

Anderson Confirms Recurring Status!

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) is confirming to his Twitter followers that he's now a "non-contract" player. "Hey friends, I am still at GH and will continue to be," he says. "Recurring isn't a bad word. Keep watching, great stuff is coming!" Spixie fans, do not fret.

Like he says, "non-contract" does not necessarily mean "adios Jackal." It can also mean freed up to do outside projects.

Anderson joined GH in November 2006 as, yes, a "non-contract player" and was given a contract six months later. He, along with other former GH co-stars Steve Burton (ex-Jason), Scott Reeves (ex-Steve) and Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny) is currently tour with their band, Port Chuck.

New Writers At AMC & OLTL!

There has been a massive overhaul behind the scenes over at ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE, with Prospect Park hiring a completely new headwriting staff for AMC and adding two new co-headwriters to OLTL.

In a statement, AMC and OLTL creator Agnes Nixon said: "It is now my pleasure to announce that the future stories involving the lives of All My Children's beloved characters are from now on in the capable hands of the co-head writers Lisa Connor and Chip Hayes, both of whom have a long and stellar history with our program.

"Lisa Connor collaborated with me on the final draft of the All My Children Twenty - Fifth Anniversary Family Album. For two years she also served as a line producer of the program and was creatively involved in plotting and writing daily episodes since 2002. In addition to his six years as a producer on Melrose Place, Chip Hayes in 2003, became a vital member of those devising the ongoing drama of All My Children. He remains in this crucial work through its incarnation on the internet.

"I agree with Prospect Park's decision to replace the head writing team for All My Children. However, I particularly want to thank Marlene McPherson and Elizabeth Snyder for their incredibly positive dedication to the show and their constant helpful attitude during many long hours of intense work. It is greatly appreciated."

Current AMC scriptwriter Lisa Connors will now be co-headwriter alongside Chip Hayes, who previously was an associate headwriter of AMC for many years towards the end of its ABC run. Over at OLTL, Jessica Klein and Marin Gazzaniga will be the new co-headwriters, replacing Thom Racina.

AMC & OLTL Still Available In Canada

Last week's news that ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE would be adjusting their schedule so that both shows only air two episodes a week has meant that Canadian soap fans can no longer watch them on FX Canada.

"The terms of the F/X Canada deal stipulated a five day run," a rep for Prospect Park told Soaps In Depth. "Now that the shows have been reduced, the agreement is no longer valid. However, the great news is that Canadian viewers can now access the shows via iTunes Canada."

With the new schedule, new episodes of AMC will be uploaded to iTunes on Mondays and Wednesdays while new OLTL episodes will be uploaded Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays will see a combination AMC/OLTL behind-the-scenes MORE show.

Wedding Countdown!

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Nikolas meant well and the gesture to have his mother and Scotty get married at Wyndemere was a fine attempt to show his support. But considering all the murder and mayhem "Hotel Gothica" had seen through the years, Laura would have been safer politely turning down his wedding gift and, instead, suggesting a gravy boat. "I just hope that we'll be able to hear our vows with all the screaming of the souls that are trapped in the walls," Scotty joked. Many a truth is told in jest. Monday we'll know if the ceremony was interrupted by an ex-husband, a cranky in-law, an amnesiac offspring, someone assumed dead, someone really dead... or if it goes without a hitch. As if.

Congress must have been getting along, the Middle East must have been calm, and the stock market must have stabilized because it was a really slow news day for "Hellish Relish" to be a front page story. Then again, its apparent perpetrator, Roger Howarth's "mysterious man" does have a devilish grin, so maybe that hell reference wasn't so far off. The perfectly coiffed, newly blonde, scar-free, stubble-faced Howarth is arriving in Port Charles Monday, and that can't be good news for somebody.

Dante is one sly dog, taking Lulu to the Haunted Star to retrieve (and recreate!) her memory of their first kiss. And it almost worked! Their lips were millimeters apart when she was hit with a disturbing flashback of being dragged off. Not exactly a daydream to put ya in the mood!

This week, a much-anticipated wedding gets under way, the "mysterious man" has another scheme up his sleeve, and horrifying messages reach Sonny and Carly! Don't forget: 2:00 ET and 1:00 PST/CT on ABC. Be there!

How Was Scott Involved In Rick's Death?

Thursday's episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL found Laura having to deal with some pretty strenuous objections about her upcoming wedding to Scott... and for once, it wasn't Luke raising a ruckus! Instead, her mom, Lesley, was the one objecting because of the circumstances surrounding the death of her late ex-hubby, Rick Webber. Need a refresher on the history being discussed? Glad to help!

Laura's troubles began as she was planning her 2002 wedding to Luke. One gigantic black hole in time was centered around the garage attic of the Jones house, where she spent her youth with her parents, Rick and Lesley. Bad dreams that she realized were actually memories had both her and Luke determined to unravel the secret from her past that only her subconscious mind was aware of.

As memories slowly returned, she knew that whatever happened in that attic, Scotty also knew. He, however, wasn't going to tell her. When she finally had full recollection of the woman's face from her memories, Laura had Liz sketch it. Lesley remembered that woman as a nurse at GH named Theresa. Flooded with flashbacks, Laura came to believe that her stepfather, Rick, was involved in the woman's murder.

The night of Luke and Laura's wedding, the bride returned to the attic and was soon joined by her father. She accused him of murdering Theresa in that very room, but he denied it. Trying to calm her, he approached her with a syringe. Believing that Rick was indeed a murderer now out to silence his own daughter, Laura picked up a heavy candlestick and struck him in the head, killing him.

Stumbling upon Luke, a catatonic Laura and a dead Rick, Scotty finally told Luke about the events in that attic all those years earlier: A teenaged Laura had walked in on Rick and a romantically obsessed Theresa in a heated discussion about him refusing to leave Lesley. Freaked out, Laura grabbed a camera and hit Theresa over the head, killing her. Laura's fragile state concerned Rick, who sedated her. He then called Scotty, who helped him bury Theresa's body in the Jones' backyard to protect Laura from being charged with murder.

Why AMC and OLTL Are Cutting Back!

Fans were shocked to learn that starting Monday, May 20, ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE, which had been airing via four days a week, would now be airing twice a week. (AMC will air Monday and Wednesday, with OLTL filling the Tuesday and Thursday slot.) We went to Prospect Park head honcho Jeff Kwatinetz for details on what led to the surprising move.

Soaps In Depth: What does this mean for the future?

Jeff Kwatinetz: It's good. We've been getting millions of views. We're off to a great start. The data is pretty clear. People aren't watching like they watched it before. We should have expected this. We thought it'd be a lot...I don't know why, but our initial instinct was that people were going to watch them like they watched them on ABC. But the truth is they're watching them more like they watch shows on-line, and people are just falling behind. They think that there are too many episodes, and they don't like missing shows or getting behind. [Another factor has been the fast paced-nature of the episodes themselves.] We don't want to slow them down so people feel like it is okay to miss a show. People are telling us - and you have your own experiences - that if they miss one of our shows they feel like they have to go back, they can't just pick up.

In Depth: How does switching to two days a week impact the pacing of shows that are already taped? If you had a Tuesday show that's now a Wednesday show -- and you're not getting another one till next Monday -- how does that affect the viewers? What about cliffhangers and holiday shows, themes that were going on?

Kwatinetz: That's a really good question. Luckily, our stories weren't dependent on things like holidays or times of year. But that's part of why, once we saw that people were watching the shows more like they do other on-line shows, we realized we needed to do something quicker and [not] end up with the kind of issues you're talking about.

In Depth: Once you've gotten a chance to see how this new schedule does, might you consider going back to a four-episode week down the line?

Kwatinetz: Of course! We always said that we're going to adjust to the audience. This give us more time to work with you guys about marketing the show and making the show its own event. The last thing we wanted to do is slow down the pacing because everyone loves the shows themselves. I have not been involved with TV that has gotten such great reviews. We don't want to screw around with the content. We just wanted to make sure that people can keep up.

AMC & OLTL Schedules Cut!

The OnLine Network has made a huge announcement regarding ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE: Starting Monday, May 20, they are scaling back on the scheduling model and two new episodes of each show will be made available each week. New AMC shows will post on Mondays and Wednesdays, and OLTL will now run on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The behind-the-scenes series, MORE, will stream as a single show on Fridays.

In a statement released to subscribers of TOLN's newsletters, Rich Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz explain, "This allows us to introduce a new episode of quality television every Monday through Friday and gives the audience a chance to catch up as we continue to build awareness and excitement around these new shows. Because Hulu agrees with our findings, for the meantime they will keep all of our episodes on for free to give viewers the opportunity to find us and catch up."

The decision was made after collecting viewing data which showed that the shows were primarily being watched by "binge viewing" on-demand and that while the soaps once had a shared ABC audience, the majority of viewers are only watching one of the rebooted shows, not both. The execs also state that "our viewers seem to primarily start with the first episode then continue forward... yet starting from the beginning with the amount of episodes we are releasing is asking too much for viewers who need to catch up."

Frank and Kwatinetz promise that this new schedule will not impact the production of AMC and OLTL. "We will be filming new episodes through mid-June, continue editing throughout July and until we go back into production in August. It's a frenetic schedule but all of us are up for the challenge and excited to continue to deliver great shows.

"As a new venture we felt obligated to address the needs of our viewers head on and to make adjustments that we think will work for our viewers. And as always, we thank you for your continued support and encouragement."

The full statement can be read here.

Ingo's Last Dance

Ingo Rademacher (ex-Jax, GENERAL HOSPITAL) had a good run on DANCING WITH THE STARS, but last night, he and professional partner Kym Johnson were eliminated in the semi-final round.

"I [actually] feel great," Rademacher responded after the show. "It would have been amazing to dance in the finals. If we'd gone through I would have switched into a whole other gear because we really would have had to show some dances that would have proved we deserved to be there. I think we would have pulled a rabbit out of a hat. In a way, I'm a little disappointed we didn't get to do that, but I'm more relieved. I'm eighty percent relieved because my knees are really hurting me. I need to sit down!"

But the actor prides himself on getting as far as he did, and learning so much. "Every time I'd come back on Wednesday and Kym would show me a routine, I'd go 'There's no way I can do that,'" Rademacher said. "And I'd do that. And I'd do it on Monday. Even on the last week, I thought on the Charleston, there's no way I can get those steps down. And you surprise yourself and you do it and it's amazing. If you dedicate enough time to something then you will learn how to do it."

So while he won't be taking home a mirror ball trophy like GH castmate Kelly Monaco (Sam), congratulations to Rademacher for getting this far!

Will Rademacher Make The Finals?

Last night on DANCING WITH THE STARS, GENERAL HOSPITAL's Ingo Rademacher (ex-Jax) and professional partner Kym Johnson scored three nines from the judges for their Charleston! "It was the most entertaining dance that we've done all season," Rademacher told us after the show. "The footwork was a little off; we did it better in dress. It was definitely a fun dance."

However, the actor wasn't nearly as pleased with their first dance, the samba. "I think if we'd had a really nice ballroom number," he mused. "A dance with cool lines. Big, beautiful lines. I feel like more of a dancer when I'm doing that kind of dance. The samba was definitely difficult for me."

But even if Rademacher doesn't make it into the finals, he's still content with his performance on the show. And he's got a bunch of paddleboard races in Hawaii coming up to keep him busy! Not to mention if GH asks him to return again. "If they call, I'm always ready to come back," he said. "It just won't be during race season. It'd have to be after July."

Make sure to tune in tonight at 9:00 pm EST on ABC to see if your votes were enough to push Rademacher and Johnson into the finals!

The "Clash Of The Condiments" Begins!

If the pen is mightier than the sword, where does "relish" rank? In Quartermaine-land, it's way up there!

Tracy and A.J.'s battle for the condiment crown kicks off on Monday's GENERAL HOSPITAL, when the duo goes head-to-head in a Pickle-Whoever taste-off on THE CHEW. Although it looked as if Elizabeth used her "power of pretty" to get Nikolas to back off A.J., she was no match for Tracy's ability to reach into the Great Beyond and make contact with Edward! Yes, divine intervention had Tracy begging her dearly departed daddy for forgiveness for not saving ELQ and, just like "that," the guards Nik hired to keep TQ in check dropped like flies! Look out CHEW crew. Tracy is on her way, and she's ready to rumble!

T.J. can't catch a break. He asked Molly to be his prom date in the most romantic way EVAH, but then he got dumped. Yeah, he deserved it. He shouldn't have lured Rafe to Kelly's pretending to be Molly and then punch him in the face. Bad move. But the guy's in love and he knows Rafe is moving in on his girl. What's he supposed to do, ignore it? As if. He's 15! Can he make amends with Molly before the big day?

Morgan sure grew up nice. He is, however, easy to dupe. Fifty grand worth of "dupe," in fact! And he wants NO help getting out of this mess. He told his big bro, Michael, "I got this, Mikey. Same way I've handled my whole life since mom outsourced parenting to Sherman-Johnston Military Academy." Yup. That pretty much sums up what went wrong and when it went there. The shocking thing is that Carly turned to Sam for help. Sam! Isn't that the seventh sign of the Apocalypse?

This week, the relish revolt takes an odd turn, Morgan has "a plan" (that can't be good) and three familiar faces return as different characters. Guess who?! Don't forget: 2:00 ET and 1:00 PST/CT on ABC. Be there!

Lucci Helps Launch Daytime Television Exhibit

Back in March we told you about a collaboration between NATAS and the Smithsonian Institute to bring some of the most iconic daytime television memorabilia to the national museum, and today the first donations were presented!

Today's ceremony officially launched a three-year collecting initiative between the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) and the National Museum of American History, aiming to help the museum expand its capacity to tell the story of daytime television and the Daytime Emmy Awards. At the ceremony, the Smithsonian accepted artifacts that reflect the contributions of daytime television programming, including a 1984 JEOPARDY! script from Alex Trebek, objects from the children's series BARNEY, and the gown that Susan Lucci (ex-Erica, ALL MY CHILDREN) wore on the cover of People magazine celebrating her legendary Daytime Emmy win. "They've asked me for [an AMC] script as well," the iconic daytime actress tells Soaps In Depth. "Plus, People is doing a big blow-up of the cover."

The daytime television collection (which will include children's programming, talk shows, game shows and cooking shows) will be part of a larger entertainment exhibit scheduled to open in 2015. "Right now, the area that the museum is going to devote to this exibit on American culture at large is under reconstruction," curator Dwight Blocker Bowers tells In Depth. "We have a very small soap opera collection, and this is an opportunity for us to add to it."

For more on this collaboration, check out an upcoming issue of Soaps In Depth.

Billy Clyde Is Back!

And here we thought that Billy Clyde Tuggle himself, Matthew Cowles, was attending the red carpet premiere for The OnLine Network's ALL MY CHILDREN reboot out of support for the soap! But AMC has confirmed that the actor is actually returning to Pine Valley!

Billy Clyde was last seen in 1990 when he was presumed dead in an explosion while trying to off Tad. This time around, we hear that he'll be involved somehow in Jesse and Angie's search for Cassandra... and he'll of course encounter his obsession, Dixie. Look for Cowles to first appear on Thursday, May 16, bringing a whole lot of trouble in his wake!

OLTL Vet Not Joining B&B

Rumors have been flying around Twitter that Dan Gauthier, ONE LIFE TO LIVE's ex-Kevin Buchanan, would be joining the cast of THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL. And while the talented actor would be a welcome addition to the cast of any soap, in our opinion, a rep for B&B reports that those rumors are false. Guess B&B has reached its hunk quota for the time being?

Rademacher Makes The Semi-Finals!

Despite going into last night's DANCING WITH THE STARS results show with the next-to-lowest scores, GENERAL HOSPITAL's Ingo Rademacher (ex-Jax) and professional partner Kym Johnson were called safe very early in the evening! "I kind of called it," Rademacher admitted to Soaps In Depth after the show. "When I got out there I had a feeling that it was going to be us first. That'd be like throwing a wrench in the works." Johnson agrees, adding, "I think they called us safe first to cause some drama."

Despite his ever-improving dancing skills, the actor is keenly aware that he has the fans to thank for pushing him into the semi-finals, even if he's not currently on GH — and can't even imagine doing both at the same time! "I'm not as good as Kelly Monaco (Sam)," Rademacher confessed. "I couldn't have done both. I really couldn't. Now the competition gets really, really hard. We're looking at the top four. It's very hard for us to beat. But it's possible."

And with the pair facing a Charleston and a Samba next week, they've got some work to do. "They're not going to be easy," Rademacher said. "Both of them are hard dances. I think the fact that one is very sexy adn the other is polite and fun can show we can do a variety of things. Hopefully it will all come together!"

So make sure to tune in next Monday at 8:00 pm EST on ABC to find out if it does! (And don't forget to vote!)

Will Alderson's Good-Bye Win An Emmy?

Kristen Alderson is thrilled to have received her very first Daytime Emmy nomination, especially since after so many years, she's no longer playing the part of Starr Manning that earned her the nod. "I'm really, really grateful," she says. "I'm leaving the character of Starr with a heavy heart."

The Younger Actress nominee learned the good news after waking up and checking her phone. "I saw that I had a million missed calls," she reports. "At first, I thought it was a bad thing, that something happened. But then I realized that it was not a bad thing. It was actually very good!"

And she's hoping that the emotional scenes on her submission tape sway the Emmy voters. "I turned in when Starr was saying good-bye to Cole and Hope in the morgue and when she kissed their graves good-bye," Alderson reveals. "They were scenes that were really hard for me to mentally prepare for. The best part of working as an actress is when you can lose yourself in a moment."

Is Ingo Cracking Under The Pressure?

Ingo Rademacher's (ex-Jax, GENERAL HOSPITAL) performance on last night's DANCING WITH THE STARS has him and partner Kym Johnson in next to last place, only ahead of THE BACHELOR's Sean Lowe. "It's better than being below Sean in scores," Rademacher joked to Soaps In Depth after the show. "We couldn't be in a batter spot. I don't think we could have asked for anything better in the scores. Now it's up to the awesome GENERAL HOSPITAL fans out there. If we get through this week and then next week, we'd get to the finals. That would be awesome."

There was a lot of drama in the video package where Rademacher struggled during rehearsals, and the actor swears it was all real. "It was only the one moment where she said 'I'm here for you. I'm here to make you look good.' They didn't cut to the fact that afterwards I said, 'No, listen, it's not that I don't want to do it. I'm having a hard time with the steps.' Which we did. So we worked through it."

But was it enough to keep him in the competition another week? Tune in tonight at 9:00 pm EST on ABC to find out!

St. John Is Finding Normal

Trevor St. John made quite a splash when Victor made a dark and mysterious appearance in the cliffhanger of the first episode of the new ONE LIFE TO LIVE, but you'll be able to catch a lighter side of the actor in the new GMC TV original movie Finding Normal.

In the romantic comedy, St. John plays Lucas Craig, one of the residents of Normal, North Carolina, who change the life of big city surgeon Lisa Leland, played by FULL HOUSE alum Candace Cameron Bure. Naturally, being stuck in a small town changes her life in a big way.

"Finding Normal is a perfect movie for families looking for a romantic and inspirational story," said Barbara Fisher, SVP, Original Programming, GMC TV. "GMC continues to expand our line up of original programming with content that features uplifting stories with popular, high-profile casts that appeal to a multi-cultural and multi-generational audience."

Finding Normal premieres on GMC TV on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday May 19, at 7:00, 9:00 and 11:00 pm EST. You can watch a behind-the-scenes teaser of the film below (where St. John talks in a southern accent)!

Tracy Vs. A.J. For The Relish Dynasty!

Nikolas can't stop thinking about kissing Liz, Milo can't stop thinking about Lulu kissing HIM, Carly wants to think about anything BUT kissing A.J., and Tracy can't stop thinking about... relish.

While others in Port Charles are preoccupied with matters of the flesh, the cranky Quartermaine matriarch is hung up on condiments. Nikolas had the same reaction soap viewers had when they first heard the name of the Daytime "fusion culinary/chat show" A.J. booked himself on to promote Pickle-Lila. "The CHEW?" Nik said, making a face like he just stepped in gum. You heard Tracy right, Nik. You heard her right.

Carly's mid-week "I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!" while she and A.J. ripped off each other's clothes left them both with selective amnesia, in that they mutually agreed to forget that they had sex. A.J. went macho on her, giving her that "admit I rocked your world" speech while she tried desperately to wash away his cooties by dousing herself with hand sanitizer. As if it were that easy. Let's take bets now on how long it'll take Liz to find out... and who will let the truth slip out!

Sonny stormed Morgan's dorm with his pistol-packin' new enforcer, Shawn, scaring the bejeebies out of his roomie, Travis. Shaking and sweating and stuttering, the poor kid aimed his gun at them, thinking they were the guys out to collect the 50K Morgan owed them. In a different universe, the kid playing Travis would have been cast as Morgan because he looked like he could be Michael's brother. But nope. Is that a sign that the brothers won't be alike in other way, also?

This week, Lucy gives Scott a pep talk about his love life, Carly finds an unlikely ally in Sam, and the Great American CHEW Relish Challenge between Pickle-Lila and Pickle-Eddie begins! Don't forget: 2:00 ET and 1:00 PST/CT on ABC. Be there!
