"Sonny Shot Me Because Of Ava"

CarlyAJHospital.jpg

Gun shot to the chest and brain aneurism aside, GENERAL HOSPITAL's A.J. wasn't too wounded to drop a huge bombshell right in Carly's lap! He had been in a coma fighting for his life for days, but it wasn't until Carly walked into his room and began to confess how much she wanted to shoot him that he began to show signs of life. "I think Sonny might have had that honor, but I can't be sure because Sonny's not talking... and neither are you," she said. That's all his subconscious needed to hear for his eyes to start blinking the way Frankenstein's did when those neck bolts got zapped with electricity! "Sonny shot me because of Ava," he moaned... then his eyes rolled back into his head and he crashed!

Sonny, meanwhile, was getting chewed out by Monica. (You go, girl!) She said that if she didn't know better that she'd think he was the one that shot A.J. Oh, if only she had Olivia's talents. You know, the predictions thing and not the "other" stuff that we can't speak of in our family magazine. Any way, Monica's ire most definitely hit Sonny right where it hurt, like in his conscience, because her words cued the dramatic music and a close up of Sonny's dark, guilty eyes!

Obrecht returned Britt's call, which was on speakerphone in the PCPD interrogation room. The plan was to get Dr. O to reveal where she was so the police could get her and rescue Ben in the process. But thanks to Lulu, that plan was shot in the foot. For a little lady, she sure has a big mouth! She burst into the interrogation room while the call was live, signaling to Obrecht that they were trying to trap her in a confession. After Obrecht hung up, she pulled a gun on someone in the room with her -- Liz! Yes, the evil doc was holding Liz and Ben hostage in Liz's house! O might have thought that was a good idea... until Nikolas showed up!

MONDAY: Nikolas senses something is off with Elizabeth. Sam enlists an unlikely person for help. Julian concocts a new plan to bring down Sonny. Don't forget: 2:00 ET and 1:00 PST/CT on ABC. Be there!

Springfield Drops In!

RickSpringfieldDiva.jpg

GENERAL HOSPITAL's Rick Springfield (ex-Noah) will soon turn up on Lifetime's DROP DEAD DIVA playing — you guessed it! — a bad boy rocker with some big-time problems. In the episode, titled "First Date," front man Liam Summers has legal drama stemming from his habit of trashing hotel rooms and comes to the firm for help. Might Jane and new hire Belinda prevent his irresponsible behavior from putting the band's next big tour at risk? "There's all sorts of reasons why Liam thinks he's getting kicked out of the band," Springfield previews. "You'll find out later on why that actually is."

"Brooke Elliott (Jane) is a doll," Springfield says of working with the series' star. "She did some really funny takes." But for the performer, in addition to getting some "meaty scenes," the best part of doing the appearance was getting to work with fellow guest star Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts, who plays the band's manager. When part of the shoot was postponed due to snow, the two had to make fast travel plans. "We both had to go to Nashville, and all the flights were canceled, so he gave me a ride back on his tour bus," the Grammy winner reveals, grinning. "We wrote a song — musicians don't like to waste time! I'm gonna see him next month... I want to write more with him."

Tune in to catch Springfield's episode on Sunday, March 30, at 9 p.m. EST. For more on what the multi-talented man is up to — including details on his soon-to-be released novel — catch his upcoming Keeping Track feature in Soaps In Depth.

GH's Wagner CALLS THE HEART

JackWagnerHeart.jpg

There's new romance brewing on Hallmark Channel's period drama WHEN CALLS THE HEART: Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco, GENERAL HOSPITAL) has joined the cast as Mountie Forensic Investigator Bill Avery, and he's bringing the heat! First introduced in last week's episode, Avery arrived on horseback to find out the truth about the deadly explosion in Coal Valley that killed many of the locals, including the husband and son of Abigail Stanton (played by EDGE OF NIGHT's Lori Loughlin, Jody). Might Wagner's character help the shaky widow find her footing? Behind the scenes, it was the other way around. "Lori's an old friend, and a terrific actress," Wagner confides of his scene partner and pal on the Vancouver set. "I play golf with her husband and we've run in the same circles for years."

In "Prelude To A Kiss," the season finale airing Saturday, March 29, at 9:00 p.m. EST, Wagner's character will be back to further pursue Abigail while at the same time, delving deeper into the dangerous mystery. "My character gets beat up while he's at the crime scene by some masked men," Wagner reveals. "So it unfolds to be a real good versus evil situation."

With the fate of the town, as well as Abigail's family name, on the line, the evidence that Avery has collected becomes all-important. Who will triumph? Abigail pins her hope on the visiting Circuit Judge Jedidiah Black (James Brolin), but will she be able to continue living in the small town — let alone find love again — in the aftermath? "They leave the show with cliffhangers," Wagner says of the possibility of his return. "So hopefully Hallmark will pick it up for a second season!"

AMC Star Gets Gone!

JeffBransonZoeGone.jpg

While awaiting the birth of his first child this year, Jeff Branson (Jonathan, ALL MY CHILDREN) has been keeping himself plenty busy! This weekend, he'll turn up on Lifetime in the thriller, Zoe Gone. "It's about Jennifer, a 16-year-old girl who has a baby (Zoe) with the support of her boyfriend, but the pressure is too much for him and he runs away," Branson offers. "Her mother is a divorcée who's got a boyfriend, which is where I come in. He's the guy who wanted the woman, but not necessarily the child, but took on the role of helping to raise her anyway. But when his gal becomes a grandmother, that wasn't in his plan. There are some moments of him not understanding and lashing out a bit."

The teenager's struggle to acclimate to motherhood and the drama that entails is further complicated by an unexpected twist: Baby Zoe goes missing! "That kicks in the young lady's maternal instincts," Branson relates. "Then the storyline becomes about finding the baby and [Jennifer] proving to herself the mother that she can be."

While Branson is reluctant to give away much more, he did want to praise the film's young star, Sammi Hanratty. "She knew exactly what she wanted to do with the role, and she ran with it right from the beginning!" he enthuses. "I think [the problem of] high school girls having babies and not knowing what to do or not having the support that they thought they would is a relevant topic. The soap fans will relate to it."

Zoe Gone premieres on Saturday, March 29, at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime. Then you can keep an eye out for Branson's upcoming guest appearances on TNT's PERCEPTION and CBS' NCIS.

Uh Oh! Liz Finds Britt's Confession!

LizReadsBrittsLetter.jpg

When will those Cassadines on GENERAL HOSPITAL learn that their dark, dank, gothic Wyndemere mansion and cheery celebrations just do not mix? Everyone who is anyone in Port Charles showed up at the island estate to pay homage to the bride and groom to-be, Britt and Nikolas. But just as the ghost of wives past (aka Emily) predicted, it ended in tragedy!

The evening began on a very strange note, with Luke gawking at Britt's fine form and complimenting Nik on his fiancé's "hot piece of ass." Nik was just a mouthful of martini away from a spit take after hearing that one and promptly kicked Luke out! Unaware that her future hubby was put out with the trash, Tracy went looking for him but instead found Lulu fussing over baby Ben. The resemblance between Lulu and the little tyke had not gone unnoticed, which was making it even harder for her to detach. Lulu was starting to wonder if her inability to have a child of her own was karmic payback for having an abortion when she was a teenager.

Brad, meanwhile, was being consumed by guilt for his part in Britt's "stolen embryo" saga. He so wanted to confess to Lucas but Obrecht was hovering like a vulture ready for the kill if he made that unwise choice. "One word out of you and you're finished," she warned. She meant it and he knew it! But Brad was the least of Obrecht and Britt's worries. Little did they know that an innocent expression of prepubescent love would be their downfall!

Earlier in the week, Britt had taken Brad's advice and wrote a letter of apology to Lulu, confessing the entire scheme that lead to Britt giving birth to Lulu and Dante's child! Although it was a good idea to get it off her chest, leaving the confession unattended in her office so Cameron could pick it up and make it into an origami heart for Emma wasn't the brightest move she's ever made!

Cameron gave Emma the heart at the party and Spencer, in a jealous rage, threw it on the floor and smashed it to smithereens. Then, of course, Elizabeth found it and realized it was Britt's handwritten confession that Ben was Lulu's son! She was just about to rush out and blab to Nikolas when Ric stopped her. He told her to tell Lulu and let her decide what she wanted to do about it! Whoever finds out first was beside the point. Any way you slice it, Britt's life is about to make an about-face!

And that's not ALL that happened Friday! Julian got a text from his financier, saying to meet him in the stables. Both Sonny and Alexis naturally assumed it was Ric. Well, they were wrong. It was Luke!

Next week, Alexis confronts Ric about his connection to Julian, Lulu stuns party guests with a wild assertion and Nikolas has some choice words for Britt! Don't forget: 2:00 ET and 1:00 PST/CT on ABC. Be there!

Bruno Goes Bad!

ChrisBrunoSororitySurrogate.jpg

Chris Bruno, who played gay teacher Michael Delaney on ALL MY CHILDREN and the grown-up, arrogant version of Dennis Carrington Wheeler on ANOTHER WORLD, is returning to television this weekend in the world premiere of Lifetime's Sorority Surrogate. In the soapy tale, a broke college co-ed (THE L.A. COMPLEX's Cassie Steele) agrees to carry a couple's baby for money. But when the parents-to-be are in a fatal accent prior to the birth, a battle for the unborn child ensues between the surviving family members, including the would-be grandparents: A congresswoman (Mimi Kuzyk) and her dangerous second husband (Bruno).

"It was super fun torturing Cassie since she's pretty tough and has a good sense of humor about it," Bruno recalls, adding, "[And it's] really fun playing a bad guy because you have to apply psychology to justify actions, and I was a psych major in college."

Bruno's character will to stop at nothing to get what he wants, including getting physical. "I got to do a number of stunts," Bruno reveals, grinning. "Matthew Bennett (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA) and I had fun fighting each other and hanging out after work."

Will the pregnant sorority girl be ale to protect herself and the child that she's carrying? Tune in to the premiere of Sorority Surrogate on Saturday, March 22, at 8:00 p.m. EST on Lifetime to find out!

Larson Talks Y&R And First Kiss!

JillLarsonGal.jpg

Jill Larson (Opal, ALL MY CHILDREN) is returning to soaps for a two-day stint on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS beginning Monday, April 14. The actress will play Connie, a stage manager who'll try to keep things running smoothly during Chelsea's fashion show. The gig reunites her with Pine Valley pals Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea, Y&R; Annie, AMC) and Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe, Y&R; Frankie, AMC).

"Connie's in the middle of all the action," Larson tells Soaps In Depth. "It's a real fun role and when it came along, I said, 'Oh, yeah!' I'm in touch with [Y&R headwriter] Jean Passanante via E-mail, so maybe that's what triggered the idea."

Larson's getting buzz not only for her upcoming Y&R gig, but also for her appearance in the short film First Kiss, which was directed by Tatia Pilieva. Larson was one of 20 artists cast in the indie project, which captures a series of first kisses among strangers.

"I met a man who was working for the clothing company [providing outfits for the film]," Larson recalls. "We got to talking, and I kept looking around wondering who did they call in for me to kiss? Then, I realized it was him! It was very sweet."

First Kiss has gone viral on the Web. Why? Larson believes it's because the film touches on the universal themes, fears and joys that are related to locking lips. "Sometimes when you kiss someone for the first time, you think, 'Do I like this person?' 'Should I get out now?' 'Are we going upstairs?''Do I like him?' 'Does he like me?' 'What are our children going to look like?'" she muses. "The film resonates with people because of its tenderness. It expresses things that we all feel, but don't have the courage to say anymore."

Nikolas and Emily's Unforgettable Romance!

EmilyNikolasGal.jpg

Nikolas and Emily's fairy tale love has long been labeled as one of GENERAL HOSPITAL's most romantic couples ever... and we're here to explain why!

As teenagers, they along with Lucky and Elizabeth called themselves the Four Musketeers. They were an inseparable foursome, coming to each other's rescue in times of need and diving head first into adventure when it arose. Through the years, those bonds only grew. Although Lucky and Liz became a couple when they were still kids, it wasn't until Emily learned that she had cancer that her relationship with Nikolas made a shift. At the time, she was with Zander. But wanting to spare him the heartbreak if she died, Emily asked Nikolas to pretend to be in a relationship with her. Nikolas agreed to the ruse. As he pushed her to fight more aggressively for her life, they began to fall for each other. Afraid of her feelings for him, she pushed him away, devastating him in the process.

The Cassadine empire was in trouble and the only way to restore the family fortune was for Nikolas marry a woman named Lydia. At the same time, Emily's health was on a rapid decline, and she decided to marry Zander from her hospital bed. Nik and Em's feelings continued to grow even though they were betrothed to others. One Halloween night, she finally confessed her love to Nik. Zander was devastated and tried to break them up a number of times, but his efforts failed. Fate wanted Emily with Nikolas.

When a fire broke out at the Port Charles Hotel, Zander was assumed dead. He later turned up alive, and Emily rushed into his arms. He begged her to run away with him. When she refused, he took her hostage. Nikolas rushed to her rescue, but his car swerved off the road and he was presumed dead. In reality, he had amnesia and was living with a woman named Mary who made him believe he was her husband. When a chance meeting brought Nikolas and Emily face to face, she vowed to help him recover his memory of the love they shared.

Furious that everyone kept the truth of his identity from him for so long, Nikolas turned his back on Emily and Lucky. Helena shipped him off to Shadybrook, where he was being heavily drugged. To be at his side, Emily had herself committed! Nikolas' memories came flooding back and they escaped

Emily's health took a turn for the worse and Nikolas looked desperately for a cure. After Nikolas was arrested for Helena's "murder," he and Emily married. But Emily knew deep down inside that Helena was still alive. To lure her out of hiding, she enlisted Mary's husband, Connor, to impersonate Nikolas. But in the process, Connor became obsessed with Emily and raped her. Afterwards, she found it impossible to get close to Nik, who was a dead ringer for her rapist. She found comfort with Sonny, while Nikolas turned to Courtney.

Nikolas and Emily eventually found their way back together, only for her life to end tragically at the hands of the Text Message Killer.

Kanan Out At GH!

SeanKananGal.jpg

Port Charles won't have A.J. Quartermaine to kick around anymore! TV Guide is reporting that Sean Kanan has reached a mutual agreement with GENERAL HOSPITAL executive producer Frank Valentini to step down as A.J., and should last air in April. The actor admits that the lack of a romantic storyline for his character made him feel like A.J. didn't have much of a future on the soap.

Instead, Kanan is going to be returning to THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL to reprise the role of Deacon, the schemer he also brought to sister soap THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS for a time. He will reportedly first air on the CBS sudser on Friday, June 13.

ABC Files Suit Against Prospect Park

ABCLogo.jpg

And the ABC/Prospect Park drama continues! Deadline reports that on March 7, ABC filed a countersuit against Prospect Park Networks (PPN) for failure to pay the licensing fees owed for the rights to ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE. "ABC sues to recover all unpaid Series Fees owned up to and through the date of the trial of this action as a result of Prospect Park's failure to pay in breach of the License Agreement," reads the filing.

In their Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing earlier this week, PPN claimed that they owed ABC $1.7 million, but the network says that the fees arrangement for multi-seasons series entitles them to more than $145 million, and that they were only paid a portion of the $4.5 million Season 1 fee owed for AMC, and the $4 million owed for OLTL.

Prospect Park Files For Bankruptcy

Sonny's On The Hot Seat!

SonnyAvaDocks.jpg

Have you ever seen GENERAL HOSPITAL's Sonny nervous to the point of getting "the shakes"? Well, he was!

Sonny wasn't nervous about shooting and potentially killing A.J., a man he had been known publically to despise. And he wasn't nervous about there being a witness to the crime who also happened to be one of his greatest enemies. No. The only thing he was nervous about was losing Michael once he found out that he put a bullet in his bio dad's chest!

Means, motive and opportunity. Sonny had them all. Shawn worked diligently to secure him an alibi so, at least, "opportunity" could be taken off the table. There was always Duke to fall back on for that. Or maybe not! That would mean lying to Anna yet again. But there was also that not-so small problem that A.J. could ID Sonny as the shooter and A.J. was hanging on. Therefore, Shawn would have to "take care" of A.J. if he recovered. At least they had a little time to pull together a plan, what with Julian being in police custody, a factoid that made Sonny a tad giddy.

Meanwhile, there wasn't much anyone could do for an unconscious A.J. other than talk to him and hope that he could somehow hear them. Michael, Carly and Elizabeth all gave that a try but with no luck. When Sonny later showed up to check on Michael, Carly didn't mix words. She cut right to the chase, asking him, "You shot A.J., didn't you?"

Julian was locked up behind bars, just as Ava predicted he would be. But at least he had Carlos on "the outside" acting as his eyes and ears. He knew she was somehow behind the shooting and ordered Carlos to dig for the truth. Julian pled with Alexis to take on his case but, because she was also Sonny's attorney, there was the question of conflict of interest. That said, she assured him she'd get him another attorney. A good one. Namely, Ric!

Over at the Q mansion, Monica had called every dive and strip club in Port Charles looking for A.J., who had been missing since the break-in that left him certain someone was trying to kill him. Luke tried to divert the subject, callously saying he wanted to lighten the mood and announced he and Tracy were engaged. Monica's reaction was bewilderment, prompting her to ask Tracy, "Why? He's still after your money!" Luke went ballistic, calling her a serial cheater with a revolving bedroom door. "You may be Tracy's sister-in-law but you're a legendary slut!" he shouted. Tracy told him to back off, that he was being mean. "What on earth did they do to you at Miscavige?" she asked. That, Tracy, most certainly is the question!

Next week, Obrecht learns that Britt and Nikolas are getting married, Ric has something major to share with Liz, hand danger hovers in A.J.'s hospital room! Don't forget: 2:00 ET and 1:00 PST/CT on ABC. Be there!

We'd like you to ask us for any general tips or advice you need regarding makeup, skin care or hair care. But we won't be the ones advising you on your beauty dilemmas — It's going to be GENERAL HOSPITAL star Rebecca Herbst (Liz)!

So just post your questions (which don't need to be about the actress or her co-stars on GH) in the comments here on our Web site, on our Facebook page or Twitter, and then keep an eye out for upcoming issues to see what advice Herbst has to give!

New DANCING Contestants Revealed!

BillyDeeDancingCast.jpg

The contestants for the new season of DANCING WITH THE STARS has been announced, and sadly, there isn't a soap star from ABC Daytime in the lineup. However, one of the celebrity hoofers does have a connection — Billy Dee Williams may be best known as Lando Calrissian from the Star Wars movies, but he also appeared as Toussaint in GENERAL HOSPITAL's spin-off NIGHT SHIFT as well as in a few episodes of the parent soap itself!

You can read up on all the stars featured in this new season at the official Web site, as well as learn more about the new twist called "The Switch Up" that will allow viewers to mix and match celebrities and dance partners halfway through the season! So while Williams will initially be partnered with professional dancer Emma Slater, if he lasts to the time of the twist, that will definitely change!

Kelly Monaco (Sam, GH) and J.R. Martinez (Brot, ALL MY CHILDREN) both took home the mirror ball trophy in earlier seasons of DANCING, and Lisa Rinna (Billie, DAYS OF OUR LIVES), Cameron Mathison (Ryan, AMC), Susan Lucci (Erica, AMC), Aiden Turner (Aidan, AMC), Ingo Rademacher (ex-Jax, GH) and Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco, GH; ex-Nick, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) all acquitted themselves well. Are there any soap stars you think would be a fierce competitor in a future season?

Daytime Emmy Pre-Noms Announced!

EmmyTrophies.jpg

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, in cooperation with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, have announced the pre-nominees in the acting categories for the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Due to a rule change, the on-line versions of ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE were able to join GENERAL HOSPITAL, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS and DAYS OF OUR LIVES in the broadcast categories; However, they only scored pre-nominations in the younger performer slots.

An on-line ballot featuring all entrants in each of the six categories were sent to judges who viewed clips of their work before selecting their top ten performers in each category. However, due to ties, Outstanding Lead Actress contains 12 performers and Supporting Actor has 13. The candidates who received the highest number of votes will now advance to the blue ribbon screening round set to begin on Wednesday, March 26. This will determine the final nominees and ultimate winner.

The final list on nominees will be announced on Thursday, May 1, but you can find the full list of all the pre-nominations after the break. Did your favorites make the cut? Who would you vote for?
