Spare Time?

James Scott talks about what he does on some of his [rare] days away from the ALL MY CHILDREN set

With Ethan smack in the middle of the Cambias storyline, James Scott finds him-self working a lot. So on the rare day off, or a weekend not filled with engagements, the actor makes sure that he spends his time getting in the things that make life more than just one long workday. Scott sat down with Soaps In Depth to talk about how he fits down time into a very busy schedule.

Home, Sweet Home
Scott admits that after a long day at the ALL MY CHILDREN studio, he is usually more than ready to head home to his apartment in Brooklyn. Although his commute is longer than that of some of his co-stars, the actor appreciates being outside of Manhattan. He describes his brownstone as big and beautiful. Scott adds that while he gets invited to a lot of events, he picks and chooses carefully. "Generally, I don’t go out. I like to go to charity functions; that is very important." As for openings and premieres, Scott generally passes. "It’s probably not the best career move," he admits, adding that his time alone is increasingly important. "[Without it], I would lose my sanity."

Noises Off
Scott says that while he will venture into Manhattan every once in a while for dinner, he stays away from the nightclub scene. "I haven’t been to a club since I got here," he says. For one thing, he hates the shouting that goes along with the overly amplified music. "When I was a bit younger, I would go into a bar and scream, ‘Hi! How are you doing? Great! Wonderful! What?!’ It was a complete waste of my vocal chords." In his London modeling days, the partying was part of a job that the actor was more than happy to bid farewell to — "We all thought we were very cool, but I look back, and it really wasn’t as much fun as everybody pretended it was."

Getting Away from It All
So what does the actor like to do these days? Scott prefers to keep things quiet, enjoying a late dinner in Brooklyn or some quiet reading at home. When he has a bit more time, he heads to Prospect Park, where there is an animal shelter that houses rescued horses. "They take them out on Saturdays, so I go horse-back riding." In addition to his exercise regimen, which includes running, he also does some writing and loves to visit art galleries. "I’ve been to some photography exhibitions in SoHo," he says. He also enjoys the peace of places like the Museum Of Modern Art. "I don’t like noisy places or big crowds of people."
