ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s David Fumero (Cristian) is hitting the silver screen in the movie Greetings From The Shore.
When ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s David Fumero (Cristian) read the script for his new film, Greetings From The Shore, which opens in select theaters on Friday, September 12, he couldn’t wait to share the story with his wife, Melissa Fumero (ex-Adriana). “I went to her and was like, ‘I love this! This is so cool: It’s exactly the kind of film I want to do!’” he remembers. “You don’t see these kinds of films these days; it’s either a comedy or an action, and I love [those] films, but I want to work on things that affect people, and this film does.”
Though Greetings can’t be explained with just one sentence, the film basically tells the story of a young girl who spends one last summer at the New Jersey shore in memory of her late father. But before the genial girl’s summer officially begins, she meets Benicio (played by Fumero), a mysterious foreigner who leads her to forbidden love and to a world of Russian sailors and high-stakes gambling. “It’s a great film,” Fumero says. “And I think I fit more with film [than I do daytime], as far as the speed of the filming. You have more time to think about your choices, think about your actions and fine-tune a character.”
Fumero may now know that acting in a film is a bit more relaxed than acting in daytime, but Greetings director/co-writer Greg Chwerchak credits the actor’s OLTL experience with preparing him for moviemaking. “David’s soap background made him so professional on set — his OLTL schedule trained him well!” he says. “[The character of Benicio] is a real star turn for David. I think his fans will be blown away by the depth and humor and richness of his performance… and I’m telling you, he’s going to be a huge movie star in a few years!”
Chwerchak adds that Fumero is too down-to-earth to rave about his own performance, which we also found to be true! But the actor did open up about how much he loves the film and how the process was something he’ll never forget. “The story is great, and [filming] was just an all-around great experience,” he says. “I’ve seen the finished film five or six times now… but I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed it every time. There are so many moments in it that are hilarious and heartfelt, and I think it’s going to do great!” — Kambra Clifford
