Chad Allen — who did a multi-episode arc on season two of NIGHT SHIFT as Eric Whitlow, a gay man in need of a new liver — isn’t opposed to reprising his character should the GENERAL HOSPITAL spin-off return for a third season. Provided, that is, Eric meets with success at the treatment program in Seattle that he went off to in his last episode. “I loved working with this group of people and I love the character,” Allen tells Soaps In Depth.
The openly out actor wouldn’t necessarily have to wait for another season of SHIFT to get the green light as the SOAPnet original program and GH take place in the same universe. Would he be open to singing a contract with GH and bring Eric to daytime? “I’m not sure I would have considered it before [doing SHIFT],” reveals Allen, whose primetime credits include DOCTOR QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN, MY TWO DADS and OUR HOUSE . “But I had such a blast doing it, I think I would. It would depend on a lot of factors, but I had such a great time. It was a lot of fun.”
Allen also gives kudos to his co-star, Eric’s on-air love interest, Adam Grimes, who played Dr. Kyle Julian. “I’m really proud of the work we did,” Allen says. “I thank Adam for his work. He was so open and willing to play Kyle and bring that love story to life. We’ve become good friends as a result [of having worked together].”
