What belated anniversary present did Eva La Rue Callahan (ex-Maria) give her husband John? A beautiful baby girl!
On December 6 — less than a week after they celebrated five years as husband and wife — a wonderful gift arrived for former AMC co-stars Eva La Rue and John Callahan (Edmund): the birth of the couple's first child, Kaya McKenna (weighing in at 7 lbs., 1 oz., and 21 inches long). "This is definitely the greatest thing we have ever done together," Eva shared with Soaps In Depth just prior to her most special delivery. And the past nine months have shown Eva a new, yet not at all surprising side to her loving mate. "John has always been a fabulous husband," she raves, "but he has been just amazing [during the pregnancy]. He's so caretaking, always making sure I don't do too much, and making dinner almost every night for the past two weeks. He has been the model husband." Now, John is blessed with the opportunity to play model parent, a role which both he and his wife have longed to fill. "We have been talking about milestones, moments in our lives that we will never forget," says Eva. "And John said that this was probably the biggest one for him — after so many years of wanting to have kids, to finally hear that I was pregnant." "It was big for me, too!" she adds with a laugh. While the Callahans could only wonder which gender of healthy bouncing baby the stork would ultimately bring, Eva says John already had the little one's fate decided. "Whether it's a boy or a girl, my husband the sports freak is going to be playing ball with it in the yard," she quips. "I don't think the girl has a chance! "In fact," she continues, "he is very bummed about the whole soccer trend. John feels completely betrayed by his nation, that the move would be toward soccer and away from baseball. It's his one-man mission, I think, to make sure that baseball experiences a comeback — with our kids!" — Matt Webb Mitovich
