GENERAL HOSPITAL:
Will Patrick's ex-girlfriend stir up marital problems for him and Robin?
It wouldn't be a soap if she didn't!
No way. Their relationship is too strong to let exes get in the way.

  Ian Buchanan
Man Of Many Faces

From mobster to doctor to brooding band manager, Ian Buchanan has proved he’s the master of reinventing himself

PORT CHARLES’ Ian Buchanan (Joshua) is back in daytime and he’s better than ever! The former star of THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL and GENERAL HOSPITAL brings a wealth of experience to the PC cast and helps round-out the show’s mostly younger demographic. "Most of the other soaps that I’ve done, I’ve always been part of the younger group, and now I’m one of the senior members of this cast," Buchanan muses. "It’s kind of interesting — I like that."

Slipping into the role of Joshua Temple, the dark and brooding manager of the enigmatic band The Stephen Clay Experience has been a lot of fun for Buchanan — and a lot of work! "There have never been two days the same, and certainly no day has been what they promised me it would be when I said I’d come here," he notes of PC’s intense production schedule. "It’s not bad, but you know, one of the producers keeps saying to me, ‘You know we didn’t lie, it’s just a very busy time right now.’"

Feels Like Old Times
Fortunately, the actor has lots of familiar faces around to make the hectic days fly by. From Lynn Herring (Lucy), with whom he worked on GH, to Rebecca Staab (Elizabeth), with whom he appeared in a 1990 episode of COLUMBO, and even the folks behind the cameras. "I know most of the crew. I keep looking at people and thinking ‘Jeez, that looks like Randy’s father.’ Then I look closer and it’s Randy 15 years later or something. So it’s kind of funny, like a past life revisited."

Since leaving the role of B&B’s beleaguered Dr. James Warwick in 1998, Buchanan has appeared in both film and primetime. "In Panic Room, I was the real estate agent who sold Jodie Foster’s character the house she ended up almost dying in," he recalls. "And I did a couple of episodes of CHARMED, NASH BRIDGES, and most recently the Richard Dean Anderson (ex-Jeff Webber, GH) show, STARGATE SG-1."

Coming Soon
So what enticed Buchanan not only back to the genre that made him famous, but to play such a different type of character? Even the actor himself can’t quite put his finger on it. "I don’t know! I really prefer anything that’s just presented before me," he confides, grinning. "It’s much easier for me. I don’t like going and looking for things, and I can make anything interesting."

Just how long the veteran actor will remain on the PC canvas remains to be seen, but Buchanan will be heading overseas prior to the show’s next hiatus to lend his talents to yet another interesting role. "It’s a film called Red Light Runners with Michael Madsen, Harvey Keitel, Minnie Driver and a whole slew of people," he reveals. "I’m playing a trashy, badly behaved gallery owner." — Kelli M. Larson
