On last night's SKATING WITH THE STARS, Rebecca Budig (Greenlee, ALL MY CHILDREN) and pro partner Fred Palascak glided their way to victory on the ice for the second week! "I felt I did really well," Budig told Soaps In Depth after the performance/results show that booted Sean Young (ex-Meggie, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) off the program. "We learned a new routine in five days. I just have to bring more to the table next week."
Cameron Mathison (Ryan) was in the audience, cheering for his on-screen girlfriend. Call him biased if you will, but the actor feels that Budig's doing an awesome job! "She's so graceful and she looks like she belongs out there on the rink," Mathison raves. "She was doing things that looked much harder than what everybody else was doing."
Could the judges be giving Budig lower scores than she deserves in order to make the ice-skating show more compelling? (There's nothing more boring than watching a runaway reality competition series.) "My honest opinion -- and it's just my opinion -- is that they know she's head and shoulders above the rest," Mathison says. Adds Palascak, "The judging was fair. The routine we did the first week was very polished. There was one minor mistake tonight and Rebecca's been picking on herself all night about it. I barely noticed it myself, but maybe the judges see stuff like that?"
Judge Laurieann Gibson gave Budig a pair of 8s for technical and artistic merit, but defends the lower scores the soap star received from the other judges. "Johnny [Weir] is looking for specific things," she says. "He's expecting a lot out there." With that in mind, Gibson adds, "This is anyone's game to win. You can't put your money on anyone right now."
Tune in to ABC next Monday, December 6, at 8 p.m. ET to see Budig skate again!
