It seems every detail of Erica's life has hit the presses on ALL MY CHILDREN, but the same can't be said for her very private portrayer, Susan Lucci, who is just now, for first time in her 41 years in daytime, opening up about her personal life in a revealing new memoir! The actress had received various offers from publishing companies and literary agents over the years, but decided to write All My Life -- which hits shelves today, Tuesday, March 29 -- after a conversation with her son. "Each of those letters laid out reasons why I should do it, and I was very flattered, but I frankly never thought I was going to be one to write a book," she recalls. "And then about a year ago, my son, Andres, who had no idea I'd received all these letters, said to me, 'You know mom, I think you should write a book... because the people my age, especially the girls I date, really want to know about you: How you did it, how you do it and what your story is.'"
Surprised by her son's words, and also realizing that his reasons were very similar to the reasons the literary world had given her, Lucci set out on her writing journey. Pairing up with professional author Laura Morton, the actress found her voice and set out to detail all the moments of her life, from joyous occasions like her time on Broadway, to personal tragedies, including a devastating car accident and a miscarriage. But despite including some darker anecdotes, the actress says the book isn't like a lot of other celebrity memoirs that have hit the shelves in recent years. "My memories are that I have met and done a lot of interesting things, I've been to a lot of interesting places, but it's not the sensational kind of thing that I see so much of now; it's not in your face and about drug rehab or abuse," she says, adding that her life has consisted mostly of positive things. "I was aware as I was going along that there were some wonderful things in my life, Cinderella moments as I would call them, where I would think to myself for a split moment, 'Oh my goodness, this is really happening! This is incredible!' But I didn't have time to really savor the moment, and writing this book has really given me an opportunity to think about those things."
