Dear Kassie, Does your husband, James DePaiva (Max) sing with you? What does he think of your singing?
Mary Knapp |
Dear Mary Knapp, He sings with me on my CD Naked, and we do a duet called "Natural History." He loves music himself and is extremely supportive of my musical career as am I of his.

Dear Kassie, Is it true you once auditioned for the role of Tina Roberts, but they chose you for Blair instead? Huridasee |
Dear Huridasee, I never auditioned for Tina, but I did audition for Amanda Cory on ANOTHER WORLD. |
Dear Kassie, I’m still in high school, but my dream is to become an actress just like you. How did you start your acting career? What school did you go to for your acting skills? Cindy Dreier |
Dear Cindy Dreier, After two years at Indiana University, I went to UCLA to study theater. The first commercial I auditioned for was an ad for Wendy’s. I then traveled the world performing for the USO. |
Dear Kassie, What storyline has been your favorite in your time at OLTL? Ashlie |
Dear Ashlie, Max’s gambling storyline because it was so different. |
Dear Kassie, Who are some of your friends on the show? Rose |
Dear Rose, There are so many: Dan Gauthier (Kevin), Trevor St. John (Walker), Timothy Stickney (R.J.), Catherine Hickland (Lindsay), Robin Strasser (Dorian)… the list goes on and on. |
Dear Kassie, First off, you rock as a singer. You have stated before that your favorite music is contemporary country and ’70s music. Do you have any specific groups or singers who are your favorites? Missy Hadji |
Dear Missy Hadji, My favorite singer is Martina McBride. |
Dear Kassie, Out of the many places to shop in New York City, what are some of your favorites? Laura |
Dear Laura, Filene’s Basement. My all-time favorite place to shop is Home Goods. |
Dear Kassie, I always loved watching you with your kids on the show. Do you actually feel like they’re your family? Allie Jackson |
Dear Allie Jackson, Yes, I’ve always loved children and, like I’ve said previously, I treat Kristen Alderson (Starr) like she’s my own daughter. |
Dear Kassie, I was very surprised that you were from Kentucky. This is where I’m from. What is it like when you go home to Morganfield? It is such a small town, it seems so unbelievable that someone you see everyday on television is from somewhere so close. Amy |
Dear Amy, I’ll always be a country girl at heart, and I love going home to Morganfield. I still have friends and family there. |
Dear Kassie, Do you like to sing or act better, and why? Jennifer Wadell |
Dear Jennifer Wadell, It all depends on what day you catch me. I really love my day job, but I also really enjoy the aspect of music which forces me to step outside myself. |
Dear Kassie, Do you have any say as to the way Blair is being written? She seems to have gotten her backbone back, finally. Lynn Curley |
Dear Lynn Curley, Actors really don’t have any say in daytime. We might put an opinion out there whether it’s heard or not. I for one am glad that Blair has gotten her backbone back. I think she was becoming a little too Donna Reed. |
Dear Kassie, Being a Southern girl, was New York a total culture shock? Which do you prefer? J.C. Davis |
Dear J.C. Davis, Not so much, because I moved from Kentucky when I went to Indiana University and then out to Los Angeles, so when I moved to New York in 1986, it wasn’t such a huge transition. I love Manhattan, but I’d definitely say that I’m a country girl because I like grass, trees, gardens and sunshine. But I certainly like the convenience of city life. |
Dear Kassie, I see you as my role model. I think it is inspiring how you juggle family, a TV career, a music career and found time to successfully lobby for legislation [for newborn hearing screening]. Who is your role model? Lucy |
Dear Lucy, I had many role models. My mother was my greatest role model. She is strong and smart – talk about a multi-tasker! She had four kids and we were all spit-polished – I still don’t see how she did that. Both of my grandmothers… I had wonderful aunts and a great speech and debate coach in high school, Judy Woodring, who had a huge affect on me. Growing up, my next-door neighbor’s mom, Iva, had a huge affect on me. |
Dear Kassie, What were the pros and cons of working with your husband? Julie Cordero |
Dear Julie, The good thing is that we knew each other, so we didn’t have to build up any pretentiousness – it’s all real and it’s all right out there. The bad thing is because he does know me that some of our relationship might pour over into our work. I enjoyed working with him, though. |
Dear Kassie, Last year, I attended Fan Fair in Tennessee and finally was able to meet you. How do you like attending Fan Fair and meeting your fans? Beth W. |
Dear Beth W., Fan Fair is a country-music-based event that I love. It’s not like Super Soap Weekend where it’s all about soap operas. These are people who know me OLTL but also are getting turned on by the music. I always do a big fan breakfast there because a lot of my fans are based in that area. It’s a great event – I love it. |
Dear Kassie, How was it working with Catherine Hickland (Lindsay) and Robin Strasser (Dorian) again?
Johnny |
Dear Johnny, Catherine Hickland is an incredible woman, a delightful actress, and a very spirited individual. Robin Strasser is one of the favorite people in my world.
|
Dear Kassie, Does [your son] J.Q. watch your scenes with Starr, and has he ever seemed jealous? By the way, he’s a very handsome little man! Linda |
Dear Linda, Thank you very much; I think he looks just like his daddy. For the longest time, J.Q. thought I did the news since I work for ABC, but now he knows that it’s a soap opera and that Kristen pretends to be my daughter. They are good friends. |
Dear Kassie, I really loved the very first song you sang on the show you sang it to Todd at Rodi’s. What is the name of it and is it on any of your albums? Natalie Bell |
Dear Natalie Bell, It’s called "Simply Love," and it’s on my CD, Naked. |
Dear Kassie, What was your favorite scene with Robin Christopher (Skye)? Rebeka H. |
Dear Rebeka H., I adored Robin, and we had such ridiculous scenarios when both characters were fighting over Max. In real life, we’re both prudes, so when we had to wear lingerie and do all this overt sexual stuff, it was hilarious. But the haircutting scene was my favorite. She’s an incredible actress and a dear, dear woman. |
Dear Kassie, Do you think Blair could ever fully get over Todd? Dawn Switzer |
Dear Dawn Switzer, No matter what happens, Blair and Todd will always have a connection. They have two children together and will always be in each other’s lives. |
